This part of the episode BROKE me. At the time, I thought he was just too senile to comprehend it, or too used to death that he just didn't care (so kinda spot on with the second one)
I never underestimated this old dude when I first watched this. I thought he was sadistic for smiling because in this game so many people were getting shot and dying around him. So from the get go I thought he was strange for that. At most I'd thought he would end up betraying Gi-hun like how Sang-Woo did to Ali. I wasn't expecting him being the whole master mind behind the games.
I watched this scene and knew he was behind it so I skipped to the end to confirm. But I see now how others are confused, especially since he clicked X on the game button.
