    We have the 2021 model of this trailer and we really like it. But our model has carpet in the slide. I like it better without the carpet. My wife's main complaint is that she wants more counter/prep space. That storage closet sold me on it and interestingly enough we do keep a folding chair in the closet and it fits easily. I agree with the roof access gripe. They need a ladder or at least a prep on the back. I emailed Coachmen and asked if there were at least backers in the rear wall for a ladder and they said no there were not.
    We did pull the trifold sofa out and found a couple of small power recliners that fit in the space. I just added an outlet behind them to plug into. I also upgraded many of the lights to more decorative ones. It's handy being an electrician.
    I used to tow this with a '19 Ram 1500 Classic and Weigh Safe True Tow hitch and it towed like a dream. Zero sway with this hitch. Last month I picked up a new '22 Ram 1500 (5th gen) and I can't wait to hook this up to it. Dry our trailer is a hair over 6k and loaded it's 7100 lbs with a 950 lb tongue weight. I would give this trailer a solid 9 out of 10.

    Love how they make the pantry behind that TV wall. The lack of a fixed ladder or a way to secure a ladder sucks, because without those an A ladder must be used for safety. It is not reasonable to expect one to be carried on trips so that the top of the slide out can be checked for debris before closing it.
    It is nice that they take care of taller people with a taller interior, but what about taking care of shorter people position the fridge lower? The fridge in this trailer seems to be higher above the floor than usual. My wife will have a difficult time reaching the back of those upper freeze compartments. RV manufacturers need to come up with some better solutions.

    I guess you could say that this Northern Spirit and most other travel trailers with similar floorplans are better for those who care more about being able to use the bathroom and kitchen on the way to the campground than to sleep at a truck stop.

    I'd like to see a sink instead of the stove in the outdoor kitchen, and outside access to the storage under the dinette. And maybe do away with the underbed storage and make the pass through really big!

      @Josh the RV Nerd at Bish's RV little bit more information. Had a ram dually when i first purchased it, which obviously pulled it with bo problem. Ended up downsizing from that truck to a 22 tundra, again no issues pulling it. Spent winter in south jersey and held up fine.
      Only issues I've really had was a bad seal on the passenger side that let some rain water in the first storm I had in it. Minimal water damage, easy fix, ran some silicone across the whole outside and haven't had a problem since. A screw on one of the rollers for a shower pane fell put a few weeks after purchase. Quick fix was to drill an inconspicuous hole through the top cover and screw it back into place. Those are the only build quality problems I've had.
      Apart from that be careful when washing dishes as the particle board trim around that area will quickly absorb water that splashes on the ground. And if you upgrade to a better queen mattress I suggest upgrading the struts that hold up the bed for the underneath storage area.

    I agree the pole holder storage in the pass through is genius. I’d prefer to see more if the under-bed storage dedicated to the pass through.
    I do prefer this style of pantry to the one with a door on the side that you physically walk into. That style just wastes a lot of space.
    That kitchen is tight with very limited drawer space which is a major negative. Especially in a couples camper I think they need a bigger better kitchen.
    Finally it’s my view that any RV with a slide out should have a fixed ladder mounted to it period. You need to get up on the roof to make sure the slide roof is clear before you pull it in and given the variety of campsites you simply can’t depend on those collapsible ones that hook to the roof. I know I’ve been in a number of full hookup spots that having one of those ladders would have denied me roof access. I appreciate the idea but in the real world it doesn’t work.

    I love that pantry and the coat closet. It's great to have a place to hang a broom, put a small vacuum in (I love my stick vac).
    I'm not a fan of outdoor kitchen, but I gotta say I like this one. Mostly because the plumbing is exceptionally accessible.
    The bathroom looks to be a comfortable size. I like a queen bed, it gives more room around it to walk. They missed the mark on the bedside table areas. The head area is too deep. It really needs the cubbies. PAP machine hoses only reach so far, and Ms Grace here would crash into the closet wall every time.
    So many RVs have lousy camp side windows. Why can't the kitchen go on the neighbor side, on a slide, and the seating go on the camp side, with all those windows? It occurs to me that as much as I don't want to look out on the neighbor site, they probably don't want you looking at them, either.

    • @Cloud30000
      @Cloud30000 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Campers with the kitchens on the slide suffer more reliability issues due to the weight on the slide. The windows are more suited to let in light than to look out of, especially considering you will normally have you back to them.
      You could have a camera displaying the site on the TV as a fake window with the bonus of added security by recording the activity.

    • @pennylynch4471
      @pennylynch4471 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Cloud30000 Makes sense. Kitchen slide do exist though, so there must be a way to do it. I'm not concerned with the security of the site, so much as I am the privacy from the neighbor rig. And I'm pretty sure the view would be better. Maybe it's a matter of a slide on the camp side.

    • @Cloud30000
      @Cloud30000 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@pennylynch4471 The higher-end brands like Grand Design use a much heavier duty slide to handle the weight, which is reflected in both the price and unloaded weight; you trade a longer trailer for a kitchen slider at the same total weight and price. Even then, the sliders are one of the first components to fail over time due to load.
      The extra cost would make this brand too expensive; the few budget models I know of that tried it grew a reputation for breaking fairly quickly. For budget brands like this, a site side slider and slightly longer is the only reliable way to go.

    Roof access is important for getting access to slides without toppers so they can be swept before closing. Though we go with toppers I also want roof access since we camp in areas with a lot of tree coverage and there are times I need to be able to sweep it off before leaving the campsite. I've said this in your Northern Spirit from the other day that I think they should at least prep for a collapsible ladder by adding the hanger. Yes you could buy a standalone collapsible ladder but they aren't as secure as those that have the trailer mount.
    This isn't the only trailer that does this but it doesn't make sense to put the solar charge meter in the the pass-through. It should be located near the trailer control panel so it can be easily monitored for output. This becomes particularly useful if you add a portable panel to follow the sun.
    Personally I like the decor of the Cougar 26RBS and Grand Design 2600RB better. The 25RBHL would be a runner up. Of the two, 1st choice would be the GD over Cougar because it has the larger rectangular shower and no floor vents.

    Absolutely love this one. I would prefer that the builders/designers find a way to make those flip up counter space flush with the rest of the counter. Love the hide away storage and under bed storage. To get campside windows, could they flip the layout or would that be too heavy on the slide out (I am not a fan of camp side slid out)? The storage for fishing pole is nice. I am always worried about my husband's pole getting broken. The bath seems right on with space and storage. Great job!

    • @JoshtheRVNerd
      @JoshtheRVNerd  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Flipping a layout isn’t about weight on one side or the other. It’s about the size of the rv
      You can’t just flip it without adding over 2ft to the rv.. because of the door
      The kitchen CAN be on the drivers side, but door cannot
      And 2ft of extra camper means extra weight and easily a few thousand more cost surprisingly
      That’s why it’s so rare

    I like the storage underneath the bed but it seems like it'd be kind of a pain to have to pick up your bed whenever you need to get anything out of there. Nice bathroom. Curious (because you didn't open it & not that I think youre hiding anything) if the cabinet in the bathroom opens all the way on the right or if it bumps into that other cabinet. Also are there struts on those over the potty cabinets?

      Not sure on the cabinets. I see too many rvs anymore and they get blurry on me for those finer details

      It opens all the way. And the cabinet above the toilet just opens like a regular cabinet. There are no struts because there are no need for them.

    Impressed with the theater seating option, the TV, nice shower, under the bed storage and standard solar👍but I would also like to see a porcelain toilet, a decent bathroom vent fan, a longer awning and an attached ladder🙁

    They hit this one over the center field fence in my humble opinion. As for getting on the roof that’s why you have a dealership with RV technicians. It may cost a little but worth every penny. This unit gets an “A” with me. Thanks nerd

    Looks nice. This size starts to push it for a 1/2 ton for me. A responsible driver and set up would be fine, but boy a 3/4 or larger would handle this without issue. 650 lb on the hitch strikes me as a lot for a 1/2 ton. Throw fat dad, the family and all their crap, and gear... You'll be at a 1/2 ton payload quick. Again, a responsible user will be fine, but that gets it too close in my opinion. How many people just connect the thing and hit the road vs. ensure a safe set up?

      I don’t disagree on the towing assessment

      @@JoshtheRVNerd thanks for the reply, Josh. Like I said before, you do a proper set up and be responsible with the thing, I don't inherently distrust the 1/2 ton. It's the people in a rush who overload that 1/2 ton that I worry about. The bigger truck just inherently increases that ceiling and lowers the risk, but cost of the truck is a definite variable for sure. Keep up the good work.

    An upgraded ac optional? Seems kinda like a rip off. Why not put an ac that's gonna keep it cold/warm in all seasons? I'd spend the extra 10-15g

    Nice price point. My choice would be the East to West version of this floor plan. Especially since they made the change to the entertainment center that Josh suggested for 2023.
    Do you really need the mount for the telescoping ladder or can you just rest it against the edge?

      I don’t like using those ladders unless they’re secured somehow. They can slide sideways too easily

    All trailers need a ladder because you never know when you will need to get on the roof and stop a leak. It would be terrible to end your camping trip because you could not access the roof and stop a leak. All trailers must have a ladder attached, not this bonus ladder leaned up against the trailer thing.
