Reminds me of the story of the Russian optimist:
A pessimist says "Things couldn't be worse."
An optimist says "Don't be crazy - things could be much worse!"

In Romania this joke sounded like this:
The pessimist says: it's bad, bad, it cannot get any worse.
The optimist: yes, it can, yes it can.

@Shorty_Lickens America did to a great extent need the economic reforms. Clinton and Reagan paved the way for the growth we saw in the late 80s to 90s.
Sometimes you need an FDR, and sometimes you need a Reagan

    • @Thomasuki267
      @Thomasuki267 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

@@robertlind186 Reagan said the cause of US economic problems was essentially spending; too much debt. In fact, it was the oil embargo and a global downturn, with high interest rates all around to keep currencies afloat. Reagan raised the deficit and debt he said he'd reduce, AND lowered taxes during boom times. The crash of 1987 happened on his watch because of his economic policies' failure; the late 80's and early 90's were marked by one of the worst recessions ever. Clinton said to the poor "I feel your pain", and added to it accordingly, although he did it to reduce the debt and deficit that led to the recession without raising taxes because that is political suicide in the USA, and there was a boom as a result, for the "haves". But really, from 1980 to 2008, and 2016 to 2020, was a race to the bottom. Obama and Biden are the only ones since Carter who actually tried to better the plight of the poor; Obama as well steered the economy out of Bush Jr.'s deregulated banking sector financial disaster, Biden steered it out of the Covid financial disaster.

Fear the man who seems a charismatic hero to the people cause he can blind them with good intentions and lead them to hell, in the dune novel a charismatIc hero is the very thing Liet Kynes the previous leader of the freemen feared. And frank Herbert the author even warns about charismatic leaders.

He was an actor but freshened up the politics.
He was a govenor in california I think.
    ( I am from sweden )
    Military liked him cause spending.
But can anyone U.S. inform me if he did anything actual good to society then spread good vibes. Did he do anyting????????
( edit: he should have cut taxes : from a engineer point of view that mathematically means other people had to pick up the slack )

Did he do anything good? He won reelection with one of the largest landslide victories in the history of US elections. His economic policies ended the era of stagflation thereby improving everyone's quality of life. Americans were better off because of Regan's policies than without them, and that includes his tax cuts. Unemployment went down, inflation went down, Americans' income went up by a lot. The problem with his tax cuts, along with pretty much all tax cuts, is that the government increases spending which creates bigger deficits. However, if you look at the history of tax cuts in the US, you'll see how government revenue increases after tax cuts but the increased revenue is lost due to increased spending.

The US economy under Reagan vastly improved from the mess it had been during the 1970's. There had also been problems with labor unions basically holding the economy hostage and he stopped that by playing hardball with them. Of all the presidents in my lifetime (I'm 56), Reagan was unquestionably the best and there's nobody else close. If pressed, I'd say the next best one was Clinton, but there's a big gap between him and Reagan.

@@GreatDarkSpot I was left wing as teenager but the older you grow you turn middle or right. From my roots unions are really really needed as LONG as they are competent in national economics.
In Sweden we have a bit above sort of strong unions and they "play ball" ..... if there ever is a strike in Sweden you KNOW something is unhinged. Mostly the parties just talk. Coffee and cinnamon buns. It is very calm in Sweden cause they all work together, being competent.

One thing that stands in my mind, having lived through the 1980s,
was the genuine threat of nuclear war, and how close we were to accidentally setting off a chain reaction of nuclear ballistic missles at each other to cause humanity and every living thing, to be vaporized.
There were so many nuclear weapons between the US and USSR, that the world could be wipped out, several times over..
Reagan frequent meetings with Gorbechov (who he joked with in the video), helped create a treaty where both sides dismantled their nuclear weapons, and help bring some peace to many years of stressful times. Сайда Губа in Russia near Sweden, is where >40 nuclear sections were cut from old Soviet submarines, are laid to hibernate..
A result of the Reagan time period. That Northern section of Russia, near Finland, used to hold many underground ballistic missle launch sites. You can find many of them if you look around.
The fall of the Berlin wall also happened during Reagans time.
I have family from Poland, and it was also during Reagans time that they were able to declare independence from communism and USSR control.
Poland, like LIthuania, Latvia, Estonia, and Ukraine, after being free from communisim will never accept it again.
The lives of my family have changed for the better, in Poland, because of Reagan.
Like most people, Reagan was no saint, and many things I didn't agree with, but weighing the good and bad, I still feel like he's the best president the USA has had since WW2.
