- The wind on the ground was only blowing 8 mph (13km/h) but at 500 feet up, it was almost 30. Slowing down to 40 mph allowed me to fly at only 10 mph over the ground which seemed like I wasn't moving at all!
I didn't expect this to be a very interesting flight so I didn't have my cameras with me which is why we're stuck with cellphone footage. Sorry about that.
I watched a 172 land backwards once, at Phx Sky Harbor. He was a little late beating the fore winds of a dust storm to the airport. Hovered at about 50’ for a long while, then reduced power and began to drift backwards as he came down. 3 point landing followed by power up so he could get to an exit. I’m sure the control tower was a bit pissed as they has airliners stacked in behind him. I didn’t think to look down wind to see if there was a go around to avoid him.
Very cool, Matt!
I appreciate your channel, and vertical format is better than nothing, but it's tough to watch on a big screen tv. 😢
Ya, I never intended it to be a TH-cam video, I won't make that mistake again. lol
Belo pouso.
How was the lift on the way down also that stopping distance was amazing
I remember flying as a passenger in a Bell 47 on the desert road watching trucks go faster than us
I see that all the time in this plane... lol!
Hovered in my paraglider more than a few times! Makes for short landings!
Show em how to fly backwards!
