Used to see him because we belonged to the same gym. One day he was sitting on a bench. I sat next to him and it happened that we just began talking. I am usually coy when it comes to the celebrated. I either act like I don't know or sidestep it completely. Somehow with George in an easy conversation which lasted awhile, his celebrity just came up. I remember asking him where he kept his oscar, to which he replied--- "in the hallway." It was a delight meeting and speaking with him, so easy to talk to.

Another amazingly honest, charming and sweet interview, my sweet Harvey! Absolutely flawless! I so love George, and he is just a humble, kind, loving, gentle, sweet, sweet, man, who I had a major crush on when I was young 😎, sigh, he is such a beautiful soul. The two of you worked well together! My only regret is I wish you would’ve asked him where Jay, (Pepe, his Lt. in WSS) went, as he disappeared and no information on him anywhere on the internet. I loved his talent…Also, did you notice with George, that every single time you asked him about all the people who he worked with, not ONE bad word about ANYONE, all kind words. Just a gentleman through and through. My sweet Harvey, I am SO appreciative for this beautiful sit down conversation with him, and thank you for letting me know about his book! I will look for it on eBay! Once again, I thank you from the bottom of my heart. Sitting in my wingback chair by my fireplace in my bedroom, sipping my tea (Lady Gray), and going on to Kathryn’s interview now! OH, I met Celeste Holm, as she came over to my car as I was ‘re-packing’ the car for my Partner who is an Accredited Orchid Judge for AOS, and I was packing 65 plants into the trunk without breaking them, mostly orchids , however we had a few others, and Celeste came over and said, “My good man, that Delphinium color is just a stunning blue! You have exquisite taste in your flowers!” She leaned into it, and I was abrupt to her as I was packing the car and leaned over to her and said””Delphiniums don’t smell!” And she looked at me with those SPARKLING blue eyes of hers, and she said, “Oh I know, I was looking at the intensity of the beauty of the color. You really did pick a lovely plant. Where was this, do you remember?” And we spoke for a bit, and I enjoyed a small conversation, and she sauntered off, NEVER thinking about Celeste Holm! Raymond (my Partner of 31 year as of this past October 24th) comes back while I’m still “packing” the trunk, and says all excited and quickly..Frankie Frankie guess what??! Now I’ve been packing, unpacking, re-loading, trying desperately to FIT all these plants in, (he has a Greenhouse on my Parent property here, and it looks like a tropical Paradise, as he has his degree in Biology, Field Biology, he is a Botanist and he was a Science Teacher. He held FOUR certificates for teaching, God bless him, in all those fields!), so to quote Queen Victoria, I was not amused. 😉. He then rattles off to me this thought; “Well I was talking to Hildegard (who owns Tewksbury Nursery where we were in New Jersey) and you know how I am whenever I am talking with someone about orchids, “Orchids Orchids Orchids “…and so we were real busy in our conversation, and this woman comes over with the “BLUEST” EYES, and asks Hildegard where her Delphiniums are, and she is so intent listening to me, she doesn’t even look at the woman, and points in the direction and says “over there.’ The woman said thank you, and walked away, and we continued our conversation about “Orchids Orchids Orchids”, and then, I stopped, and realized WHO that lady was with those sparkling blue eyes!” As soon as he said that, I stopped, turned around, and said, “Who?”…because now, I am thinking..oh oh…I thought she looked famil….and he says “It was Celeste Holm! Frankie, Celeste Holm is here today! I saw her! She came up and said hello to Hildegard!! So I stopped Hildegard from speaking and said ‘Hildegard..Hildegard!! She stops talking, looks at me, and says What is it? I said, the lady who asked you about Delphiniums? That was Celeste Holm!’ And Hildegard said ‘OMGoodness! I didn’t even look at her! Raymond, we will talk another time, See you at the Montreal Show!’ And Frankie you’ve never seen an 82 year old woman RUN like Hildegard! I’m telling you, I…Where are you going??!” .. I told him, “finish packing the car, I have to go and apologize to Ms. Holm!” He said “WHAT??!” …I went to the ‘VIP” Area where Raymond and I were just checked out of, and sure enough, there was Celeste Holm! She had a blue Delphinium, and she was not speaking to anyone, so I went to her and said, “Ms Holm, I do so most humbly apologize. It is not every day that a living Legend walks past me, and I did not have the good sense to recognize them, because my Partner purchased more plants than the car is big. Could you please forgive me.” She threw her head back and laughed, and said “Oh my dear man, after that wonderful thought, I should have you in for dinner!” We laughed, and I admired her plant however she was quick to say that it was not as intense a color as mine. I asked her if I could have her autograph, and she said absolutely! But she would have to charge me 50 cents for UNICEF. I said I’ll give you a buck, I hate change! She threw her head back and laughed again! Such a beautiful woman. I told Raymond and he said, “YOU TOO?” And I always joke he doesn’t know how to talk to anyone about anything except flowers! He was the one who recognized her! Oh boy. And once again, I chewed your ear off with a story! However he mentioned Celeste. Harvey my sweet, Do you have a Facebook page? It would be so nice to enjoy a pleasant connection with you. Let me know! Once again, an amazing interview from a gentleman with a warm smile, who just knows how to make people happy and enjoy the interview and actually‘forget’ that it’s an interview! You are wonderful! Okay..onto Kathryn! Love and Kisses 🥰💕🙏✌🏼💕❤️⭐️❤️💕😘🤗😘💕❤️🥰💙

Thank you Harvey! I just sent a Facebook request under my name, “Frankie”, so you will know it’s from me. This way you can also see the face to go with the name. I used to model waaaaaaay back when for (Roy) Halston, and he was actually quite sweet. I left after a few years though, as I felt it just wasn’t me. Too much substance and drinking, and I am just happy being me. Anywhoo, I thought of some connection we could have, and thought of what I call “Spacebook”, 😳😎😁…and figured we could have an extra connection, since we have much in common with each other. Okay, back to your fabulous interview with Kathryn, and by the way, I own a Victorian Ladies Rocker that was Bette Davis’ along with her salad bowl and matching fork and spoon! My dear friend Marshall left them to me in his Will when he passed away, and that is another story! 😊 I thought you might enjoy the story about Celeste! LOL! Look for my friend request on Spacebook! Love and Kisses 🥰✌🏼💕❤️⭐️❤️😘🤗😘❤️🥰💙

Thnx, Harvey, another great interview. Had a chance to visit w/ George again at the Hollywood Show this past Saturday. Truly one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet. He autographed a photo I took of him and Patty Duke back in the 80s on Oscars morning...🙄

Loving this interview. George definitely doesn't look like a man in his 80s at all! How beautifully he interviews - kind about others, down to earth - what a lovely man. And it would have been a hoot to see him do Anita! So versatile.

Harvey, it’s such a delightful, warm, and sensitive interview. George is marvelous, and you’re an incredible interviewer. Your shows are akin to Dick Cavet’s. The 1960s-1970s were the golden era of talk shows. I’m so happy that you’ve brought this style back. It’s classy and gracious. Thank you.

You have no idea how much your very kind words of praise mean to me. Thank you so much for really “getting” what I do and why I do it. I hope you’ll honor me by subscribing to our TH-cam channel.

Hi Harvey, I subscribed a few months ago, after delightfully finding you, on UTUBE. Thank you for your gracious reply. I follow you on Facebook, too, under my name Don Haines. You make each interview as a special event, like the Hallmark Hall of Fame, in the olden days. (How I loved those movies and that opening theme music!)

@Leftofway oh Don what a hugely kind thing to say. I am blown away by your words of praise. I put my heart and soul into every episode of our show and it means the world to me that you are enjoying my interviews so much. I hope one day to have many more viewers like you. Thank you for supporting our show. ❤️

what a delightful interview. George is someone who is interested in performing, not interested in being a "star". He has had such an interesting history, over and above his peformance in West Side Story (which I loved and which remains iconic to this day). I hope George has many good and productive years ahead of him.

This interview with the great Chakiris has been fantastic!! George came across as such a darling, so humble & an honourable gentleman. What a colourful life...I am a Spaniard living in London & West Side Story is one of my favourite musicals!!!
Thanks a lot to you both.
    Many thanks Harvey for this
