I´ve always had the misfortune to miss out when Chris has toured my part of the world. But now I´m thinking .. hmm.. maybe I´m not so unlucky after all. I prefer the intensity from the albums. Never has an artist moved me so much as he does.. but.. even though he´s mastering (in being master at) the control of effects and microphone dynamics, it seems that it somewhat bring him out of focus..off the message the song is supposed to bring.. ahhh.. never mind.. just rambling..
now, I gotta say the recording takes away the raw edges, never have I experienced a more energetic performance than from these guys, the audience was exceptionally diverse, neither 60+ women and metalhead-like people couldn't contain themselves during the show
You need to do yourself a favor and come to a show, Hans. The recordings are, as you say, pure excellence on their own, but the live experience adds a cathartic dimension to it that can't be put into befitting words. I discovered IAMX when The Alternative came out in 2006, and like you, various hindrances and life in general prevented me from getting a chance to see a live show any earlier than 2013. Not very much later, I was afflicted with the deeply rooted dedication that makes you spend many cold hours waiting for doors to open through several afternoons, several cities, several times per tour. I've been to quite a number of concerts of quite a number of artists of different genres, I never even cared about front rows and communities, but I'm here to tell you: IAMX live is a communion. When you join the circus, you won't want to leave again. It's that good.
