- When Rod Roddy would announce your name to "Come on Down" on The Price is Right, it was called a "Call Down." ("You're the next contestant on The Price is Right!") Here is a humorous series of Rod's famous calls - and an appearance from Rod as an "Exotic Dancer" on one of their "Showcase Showdowns." He was one-of-a-kind; an integral part of the show... and a very funny man.
Rod Roddy is quite literally the voice of childhood for me. Lol.
John Madden was for me.
RIP to both.
His voice always reminds me of being home sick from school or snow days.
Crown 👑👑
I'm sorry but there's no other Price is right without this pairing... Bob Barker and Rod Roddy... Perfection
I liked all three eras of Bob Barker. The johnny olson era, and of course the one I grew up on Rod Roddy era, and the rich Fields era. rest in peace to johnny olson, Rod Roddy, and now Bob Barker.
Bob and Johnny were the game show duo during my early childhood and up to 16 years old.
He was the voice of my childhood.
This comment nailed it. You ain't kiddin.
Do I dare say this, he was like Ric Flair to me!
Same. And I never realized he sounded so much like Johnny Olson (our parents' childhood voice).
Rob Rodney May have been a flaming fruit. But he was pretty decent at what he done. Unfortunately he succumbed to that awful aids disease. What a shame.
@@daffyduckfan4478 it was cancer not aids
I loved both Rod Roddy and Johnny Olson, they were the sound of lazy summer vacation days watching Price Is Right!
Rod was the best announcer for The Price Is Right. So full of life, and looked like he really enjoyed being a part of the show. ❤️ I was so sad when I heard he passed away. He died too soon 😞
A braaaaannnddd new Chrysler Lebaron Convertible
That’s exactly right. And Bob was the best host. Drew is ok, but he’ll never achieve Bob’s greatness as the host of that show.
@@lucast3006 yeah I agree, Drew is ok, he’s not a bad host. But you can’t replace Bob- he brought a lot of heart to the show.
Rod Roddy was the Harry Carey of the price is right! And no one could ever be a better host then Bob barker. Legends
No it was Johnny Olson
Rod and Barker the voice of school sick days!!
RIP Bob Barker. Gone to soon today August 26th 2023 at age 99. Prayers out to his family and friends. Also, a special rememberance for Rod Roddy. Prayers continue on to your family and friends
Hearing Bob Barker and Rod Roddy’s voices and that wonderful jazz music put the biggest smile on my face as I remember being home sick watching daytime TPIR
I was just thinking about all the times I stayed home sick in the 90s watching this. Such good times.
#Rodroddy
I'm hearing a voice I'd only hear whether it's summer vacation, or I'm sick from school at home...you the best Rod Roddy!
Yeah! For kids sick at home, any show that came on after TPIR was garbage soap operas until about 3:30pm.
I used to force myself out of bed when I had the flu just to watch it instead of sleep, since I knew nothing good was on later.
Yes I loved stay home from school to watch the price is right
Ive seen all the announcers and this is the one I fondly remember most. Flashy and charismatic. Rip Roddy
Brings back memories of being home sick from school.
Rod Roddy was one of the voices etched into the soundtrack of my childhood.
RIP
N now Bob Barker is reunited with him in heaven
REST IN PEACE, BOB BARKER, AND ROD RODDY!
Rod had the best jackets.
R.I.P Rod Roddy You are missed
I was a contestant on one of the last tapings before the COVID shutdown and it was a dream. Honestly, if my childhood self had the opportunity to have Rod Roddy call me down, I would’ve crapped myself.
Rod Roddy was one of the best TV announcers of all time. As for "TPIR", as far as I'm concerned, that show ended when Bob Barker retired.(Drew Carey doesn't have Bob's charisma!)
@@allenjones3130 Yes, that show really ended when Bob retired. I can't even watch it now. I'm 53 and I grew up with Bob, Johnny Olsen, Dian, Janice, Holly, and Rod. The show has never been the same without any of those celebrities 😭
Do they play the cue music as he is announcing?
I was on in 1996 and was lucky enough to have both Bob and Rod.... Still remember it like it was yesterday
I loved Rod. Hearing his voice as a child was a wonderful thing. Equally as amazing were his outfits. He was like a beautiful human peacock!
I am 42 years old and also remember Johnny Olson announcing on the Price is right.
@@ericpurkey7502 Me too! I miss his voice. "COME ON DOWN"! 🏃🤸🤹
How ironic then that he was on CBS and not NBC.
@@hotwax9376I think he announced for the original Battlestars, which was on NBC.
Rod Roddy is a legend.
Rod Roddy looks like the type of person you would want to go on a weekend trip with!
Next stop Las Vegas!!!
"Bob Barker, come on up!" RIP Bob Barker.
I imagine his ascent to heaven had that yodeling music playing as he rose up.
Rod Roddy!! Awesome Announcer in The Price Is Right!!
1:13 "It's time for the Match Game ... Hollywood Squares ... Hour!!!"
That smile and voice was part of my childhood!!!
2:12 A new CAAAAAARRRRRRRR!! lol sucha great voice.
Bob Barker finally joined Rod Roddy R.i.p to 2 tv legands
He is also up there now with his other sidekick johnny olson.
I was very lucky to hear Rod Roddy Call me to COME ON DOWN. The other announcers on the show were great but there was a certain way Rod did it that made it special.
Rod Roddy had that drip with those suits
He is best the announcer ever on The Price is Right He is one Gods angels miss you Rod Roddy Rip.
Those two were a great combination. It was good Bob and Rod joked together.
Damn Rod‘s jackets were outrageous, and were big enough to gibe them a second life as full size circus tents.
Rod just got to announce Bob Barker come on up.
Rod Roddy is the best announcer PIR ever had!!!!!
he chit I was raised with Rod as the announcer, but watching episodes with Johnny Olson it's hard to say who is better because they both were so damn great.
Both Johnny Olson & Rod Roddy were great announcers on "The Price is Right", and were the best announcers this show's ever had!!!
R.I.P., Johnny & Rod. Miss you both. :'(
Johnny and rod def the two best announcers
The best TPIR announcer since the legendary Johnny Olsen.
Both Johnny & Rod were tremendous on the show. I think Rod showed a touch more enthusiasm than Johnny did.
9:00 his ending announcement is burned into my brain forever. It always reminds me of being home from school whether it was vacation, snow days or being sick.
I really miss Rod Roddy and I loved all the models from The Price Is Right.
This is ROOOOOOOOOOOOOOD RODDY speaking for the Price Is Right, A FremantleMedia Production
I Graduated in 82 and miss this era of tv from a simpler time.
I’m old enough to remember him saying “A Mark Goodson television production”
Mark Goodson Television Production
@@tonynotaro3654 I remember that too X3
@@tonynotaro3654 I'M old enough to remember "A Mark Goodson/Bill Todman Production". But then Johnny Olsen was the announcer before Rod.
I loved watching these two work together
Little known fact, Rod was born in Fort Worth, Texas, so he had a slight Texas drawl to him despite the show being taped in L.A.
My Nana loved The Price is Right She loved Bob and Rod.
Those outfits are Rod Roddy classic
Rod was always great and had a wonderful voice.
Betting st peter called Rod Roddy come on UP ☺
A NEW CAAAAAAARRRRRR
This never gets old
5:15 can't get over how much that reminded me of Jay Stewart riding a zonk Hobby Horse on Let's Make A Deal! Rest in peace dear Rod!
The GOAT of game show announcing
Rod Roddy was the best announcer on The Price Is Right and he fit perfectly and he made my childhood great and everytime I hear him on The Price Is Right I have the biggest smile on my face whatever I was sick from Elementary School or summer vacation. Rod Roddy was like an antacid to me and made me forget that I was sick with a stomachache. R.I.P. Rod Roddy & Johnny Olson. Bob Barker & Rod Roddy were so great together.
Rob Rodney May have been a flaming fruit. But he was pretty decent at what he done. Unfortunately he succumbed to that awful aids disease. What a shame.
Wow the Power Rod s presence and voice commanded was unmatched anywhere. I really loved him!!!
Rob Rodney May have been a flaming fruit. But he was pretty decent at what he done. Unfortunately he succumbed to that awful aids disease. What a shame.
@@daffyduckfan4478 You could have kept that comment to yourself!!!
@@lm268 Why I gave him a great compliment despite his flaws.
@@daffyduckfan4478 Flaming fruit is a compliment? Thank God you didn't insult him. Choose your words wisely. There is power in the tongue. You never know how you will leave this earth. Just saying
@@lm268 You act like I called him a phag. Which he was. I’m sure he was proud to be a fruit so yes that would be a compliment to him
I was in high school when Rod Roddy took Johnny Olson's spot in 1986. I always looked forward to see what kind of outfit Rod would be wearing in each episode!! Such a colorful seen! 🎨
The best annoncer/co host TPIR ever had you could just feel the excitement when he gave a come on down although to be fair "come on down" was not started by Rod Roddy but by the announcer before him Johnny Olsen
That's correct it was started by johnny olson
Love him!! He was so lively!!!
6:28 Look what the girls are doing to poor Rod. He doesn't wanna move away from his podium, but the girls are pressuring Rod to go with them.
4:45 it's Holly Hallstrom showing Rod some love!
Holly and Rod were still friends before he passed away (and after Holly was fired from the show).
OH GOD! If I saw that sign on the highway as I was driving by, I'd probably crash from the shock.
I really loved that picture in picture shot, where the screen showing Rod Roddy shrinks down to a smaller panel while they show the contestant coming on down on the larger screen.
Not to mention the sideswipe is pretty cool too.
And it’s cool they also used that feature for George Gray’s come-on-downs.
I love Rod's suits, gold the better.
I remember Johnny Olson vaguely as a kid and liked him. Seemed like a genuinely nice man, and I’ve seen him on other old classic gameshows. But i remember Rod more. It was extremely sad when Rod passed. He was so talented. Love the old Price is Right shows. The new one just doesn’t do it for me. Nostalgia hits hard.
The man is brilliance!!
4:58 A charming rocking horse with a 60-something year old man on it.
Rod was in his early 50s at the time
@@jessyleppert2 He didnt look a day over 65
Rod was second ONLY to Johnny Olson. He had a HUGE PAIR OF SHOES to fill when Johnny O passed away suddenly.
I imagine that if Johnny Olson could have named his successor, Rod Roddy would have been it
Totally agree! To me they sound very similar. Rich Fields was great too and it's a shame he was needlessly replaced
Rod would come visit me in El Paso Tx and i would take him to Chicos Tacos and did he eat.
WE. ALL. LOVE. YOU. GUYS. Bob. And. Rob. AWESOME. JOB.
Rod Roddy had such style in announcing. I watched him when I was really young. Enjoy him better then Rich Fields and the current announcer.
Bob and Rod, an American Institution. Can never be duplicated.
RIP Bob Barker 1923-2023.
Closest to 100 without going over.
0:35 Bob: Rod, the eyes of the nation are on you at this moment.
Rod: Hi. 🤭
Me: 😆 😆 😆
Gloria Estefan and a 1987 LeBaron... Top that.
COME ON DOWN!!!
Rest In Peace Rod Roddy 🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️.
Rod Roddy by far was the best as the announcer
I miss Rod Roddy a lot. He was in my book the best announcer for the price is right but also he was equally as great on press your luck hosted by Peter Tomarken, and he’s even announced the $25,000 pyramid in the mid to late 1980’s hosted by Dick Clark. Not sure about any other game shows beyond this point.
Gotta love Rod Roddy and his flashy suits
I remember Rod Roddy came in after Johnny Olson died in 1985. Greatness following greatness.
Actually, that is johnny olson. You meant to say that right?
@@kayandaeddings4803 Sorry about the typo. Yes, Johnny Olson was the announcer who coined the phrase "Come On Down!".
@@dalemcilwain no problem. I was like what? It’s a typo. I should have told you a little better than what I said instead of being harsh.
Rod Roddy had the best suits for the show
Those three dudes about to fight out for who’s gonna ride shotgun 😂😂
This man's suits were insane.
I miss my childhood 😔
Fun fact: Rod also played Mike the Microphone in House of Mouse
Bob and Roddy were an amazing duo he was a voice from my childhood and a true legend. No disrespect to Drew and I think he is doing a fine job but there can only one Bob and Roddy, the two went together
He was the best Rod roddy legendary
I NEVER REALIZED ROD RODDY RAIDED LIBERACE'S CLOSET BEFORE THE SHOW... Omg, as I was writing this comment, Bob made the candelabra remark!
“WHAT KIND OF CAR ISS IT ROOODDD?”
“Bob, I thought you’d never ask-ITS A FORD PROOOOBEEE”
RR was my childhood. His flashy suits would make a person colorblind lol. RIP Rod.
Rod will always be my favorite announcer. Happy to have seen Rod in person a a TPIR taping in April 2000. His voice has a lot of excitement. The announcer on the rebooted Press Your Luck needs to watch the old shows to hear how Rod did it. The current guy has no excitement in his voice.
Just noticed the incidental music used in one of the showcase prize segments, the same music was used for the theme song to the Hollywood Squares Match Game hour. Incredible how things get recycled like that.
Rod Roddy made you feel happy when you called People to come on down!!!😀
RIP Rod Roddy. He was the best announcer on The Price is Right
Rod Roddy had as much to do with the success of the Price Is Right as Bob Barker. George Gray couldn't hold a candle to him!
I agree but George is doing a great job as the current announcer
Course not. He'd burn him.
Oh PLEASE! George Grey is nothing more than a pathetic Rod Roddy wanna be!
Rod Roddy was very good.
Rich Fields was number two
And George Grey doesn't even add up.
Best announcer on The Price Is Right, Bob Barker 😁
Rod was definitely one of the best
Conga by Miami SOund Machine(instrumental parts of it) are heard during the SHowcase clip.
And judging by it being played during the end titles, the contestant won that showcase.
Love hearing the instrument version of Gloria's hit song
Did Gloria Estafan get royalties for use of the music on "The Price is Right" as others had in the past?
8:27 the moment Bob Barker thinks him embarrassing Rod has its limits.
Bob shaking his head during the credits LOL
Those outfits that Rod Roddy dressed in were taken from the gag that Johnny Carson did with Doc Severenson which in turn were borrowed from the gag done by Jackie Gleason and Sammy Spear in the 1950s . Great showmanship . By the way for you youngsters the 1970s narrator of the TV soap was the same Rod Roddy .
I remember nobody lighting my sick days from school then Roddy! To be honest, I would pretend to be sick to watch The Price is Right!! Oh, and Press Your Luck!! Big BUCKS no WHAMMIES!! Stop!
So where can a man get sets of those CBS EYE curtains/Drapes?
Love the bob and rod era
All from 1991
To get called down must be the greatest feeling
rod was best ever
I always thought Rod Roddy kind of looked like Brother Love from WWF.
IKR! I thought of him as a Ric Flair! Overtime, Rod was really a Ted Debiase!
Rod Roddy was no Johnny Olson, though he learned so much and grew up listening to him. I was so happy he got the job before his death.
Ride ready was good for the air. Johnny Olson wouldn’t of made it through the 90s
