Taemin has backtrack during some of the parts where he's dancing heavily (like in Guess Who when he's head smashing), but he's also singing most of it. You can hear "p" pops and breath sounds throughout the performance, which means his mic is on and that he's singing live.
I think it can really show that Taemin has been in the game since 2008... You can easily see that he is very experienced on stage. The way he feels the music is amazing.... And what is great about Taemin is that he dosen't do just one type of dance, he is able to do many diffrent genres, he dosen't limit himself.... I mean during debut he only did popping and then he kept evolving... I know many serniors have said that they are excited to see who Taemin will be in the future, that he is one of the current idols with the brightest future because of his skill to reinvent himself

it wasn't easy to predict the wins this year but i think one thing everyone was agreeing on was that taemin's gonna win best solo performance :D i love this stage so much, "guess who" is one of my favourite tracks from him. too bad it was the second performance of the evening, a friend of mine was there and said the doors opened so late that everything was still chaos when he performed and she didn't get to see much of it :/

Karazu Ren As an extremely dedicated shawol/taemint, i do think this performance was either lipsynced or the backtrack overpowered his voice because they were some parts where the song and his mouth didn't line up (as you said, SHINee suck at lip-syncing). With that said, there's nothing wrong with lip syncing. If it's overused, obviously people will question your abilities as a singer. But SHINee have already proven themselves as top quality artists. Lip syncing, if anything, will just give their vocal cords some much needed rest, given their packed schedule. SHINee still do lipsync. They just don't lipsync for important events, particularly when it involves a lot of shawols (fan meets, domes, SW concerts) because they really do love and respect shawols. MAMA isn't just shawols, nor is the event particularly important, so I'm not surprised if it doesn't warrant live vocals.

From what I've seen from comparing fancams vs official recorded videos, most will sing live but the level of the how loud the backtrack is what makes it seem like lip syncing (there are still groups that lip sync sometimes or for portions of the song) I actually looked up the tickets ( I wasn't going to buy them but just for shits and giggles) and the most expensive pit ticket available at the time was around $282
sometimes they used this trick : they recorded the live version first and used it as a backup for the high note part or any difficult part that the singer cannot doing it while dance. Taemin and some singers who performed at MAMA used this trick, so you can say that they did lip-sync but not for the whole song. Why they're not using the original version (for the backup) ? because it'll be so obvious if the singer did lip-sync in some parts. Since this is an award for singers to appreciate their work and also their capability as musicians. Taemin is a great singer and dancer I appreciate his hard work to become a great artist like now. Josh I was looking at how much the price for a MAMA 2016 ticket was and for the area that you said you'd like to be in ... it was $ 2188 and it was at the standing zone which is right in front of the stage...the seated areas were from $888, $1288, $1688 to $2088 . So yeah if you ever think of going put that price besides your plane ticket to Hong Kong and where you'll be staying, food, transportation....and you got yourself a whole lot of money to pay.

With may (kpop) performances they have a pre-recorded version. Sometimes they will go full live for the entire performance(s), but usually they have the MR(?) version overplayed with their live. So in some parts they lip sync and in others it's live. Sometimes they may sing live, but the music is (sometimes purposefully) turned up so loud it masks the artist(s) live singing. And of course sometimes they lip-sync the whole song, but I can understand in some situations like if it's a hard choreo based song with a lot of hard vocal parts. The broadcasting station may also do this for a better aesthetic. Although I really don't particularly like when they lip-sync all the time.
I'n sure many artists lip synced their performances during this awards show but for one thing I know Taemin was one of them who defiantly did not. :) Lip syincing is one of the only things SHINee is not good at so they always sing live when possible. Nah it's definitely live you can tell it's different from the official audio. The fact that taemin is too good people can't tell it's live or not♡
