  • The Proxxon hot wire cutter can be a great tool if you work with a lot of styrofoam for your modeling projects. As you will see in the video, you can use it for making regular straight cuts, cutting out disks of foam, making foam bricks, and even cutting sticks of butter.

A great video. I want to make a wargaming castle and looking at the cost of available models is eyewatering. But I have several sheets of modelling foam in my shed and could easily make one but I need a foam cutter. I've been checking them out but don't know what I'm looking at, so your video has been a great help. Thank you.

Great video and tutorial of the new hot wire foam cutter! That would be a great piece for making a substantial amount of projects with on a layout. Cheers from Delmar, Delaware.

This was quite timely as I have one of these on order. Unfortunately I ordered it from a place in South Africa (!), a fact the website cleverly concealed until after the order was completed! So I may get it someday, who knows. Anyway, I have a lot of things planned for it and this video will make set up a lot easier. Oh, and thanks for not showing us every excruciating detail of the unboxing!

I have looked into getting a hot wire cutter, but like you said, only really useful if you cut a lot. I have not cut any styrofoam in about 2 years

Yeah, it is only worthwhile if you are going to be cutting foam all the time.

@@StevesTrains I watch a lot of videos on terrain building outside our niche, and if I was going to build a castle with bricks or brick roads, I would definitely get one.

How about using a C-clamp or other clamps on the other end or put one on each end.

      That would probably work well

Have you done any shelf trains ? I know they're not fancy but I'm a beginner with limited space. I want to mount it in a 2 car garage on the wall up about 8 feet.

Should I bother asking where this is made? The "C" word perhaps!

I honestly haven’t seen one that wasn’t made in Asia.
