Ford F-150 Rear Door Ajar Message (easy fix) 2009-2014

  • Rear Left Door Ajar or Rear Right Door Ajar Message on your Ford F150 Crew Cab while both doors are closed? ( 2009 2010 2011 2012 2013 2014 ). This is a very common issue with 4 door Ford F-150 Supercrew. There are two easy fixes for this problem.
    There is a sensor inside the door actuator. First try spraying complete actuator with WD-40. This might help. If not you will have to inspect the complete wiring harness. On all of these Ford trucks wires get pinched and broken between the rear door and the truck body. You will have to remove the complete harness and try to fix the wires. If the harness is too damages, best is just to replace the harness. Easy enough to do yourself and that will save you at least few hours of labor a mechanical shop would charge.
    Here is the part number for the wiring harness: AL3T 14632-DD
    Thanks for watching.

    Outstanding video. Never thought of the harness. When I looked at it, it was all gnarled and lumpy. Swapped with $35 one off Amazon in under an hour, worked like a Champ. 2011 Lariat has black plastic plate in door handle that pops out to get to a bolt holding the handle and panel to the door or the panel won’t come off. Just an FYI everybody... if it says left rear door ajar.. it's talking about the driver side. I figured that out after realizing the passenger side was completely fine so I did double the work in the heat of Arizona on June 28th in monsoon season so you get the heat and humidity! LOL. But it really was an easy fix with just electrical tape and putting the wires back together! Also there is no reason at all to take the whole door panel off and all that! Just remove the rubber from the door and the rubber from the frame and you can see what wires are cut and then put them back together do not do all that extra work FYI

    • @kevinn1730

    Thanks for this video! Spliced the harness and problem solved! However, there are more screws needing to be removed than you mentioned in your video. My 2011 has three screws in the panel; One on the top at the base of the trim and two on the bottom of the panel. Also, there is a screw located behind the door handle on the inside. You have to remove a small plastic plate to get to it. I had to refer to a different video to figure this out. Glad I did, because I about broke my door panel trying to remove it.

    • @QuiteAlright
      @QuiteAlright  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@patrickland8401 Hmmm that's strange. There is a door latch sensor inside the latch itself so that should have fixed the problem if the problem was the sensor. If you replaced the wiring harness that should have fixed it if the problem was broken wires. Did you get new harness and latch or used from a salvage? Only thing that is crossing my mind right now is you could cause a "short" at the harness connector and that will for sure delete the message. But that would mean that this open door sensor will not work at all, so that is not a fix to this problem.

Any advise on where to find the correct wiring harness? I was able to hack a temporary fix together but since the wires were broke so close to the connector I'm afraid my patch job won't hold. I would like to get my hands on a brand new harness just in case it doesn't hold up.

    • @QuiteAlright

      Hmm that's strange. There could be something different with the king ranch model. I would try to get wiring diagram and see where those wires lead where is the connection. If you go to Ford dealer to parts department, ask for a quote for rear door harness based on your VIN number. They search their system based on schematics and diagrams and also ask them to show you or print out the diagram. Not sure what else to suggest

    Ok I changed the rear door wire harness exactly how you described but my rear door light stayed on. Prior to changing the harness, the dome and rear light stayed on and completely drained my battery. After changing the harness, the light stays on until 30 seconds after I start driving, then it goes off. When I turn off the truck, the lights stays on for about 10 to 15 mins and then turn off. I decided to change the rear door latch, which has a switch as well but nothing. What else could be the problem?

    • @QuiteAlright
      @QuiteAlright  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmmm that's strange. Usually replacing / fixing the harness or replacing the door latch should fix the problem. Could be a short somewhere. Not really sure what else could it be. You would have to inspect all the wiring and the electrical connections. You could try shorting it out on purpose at the electrical connection between the new harness and the connector and see if that will make the light go off

    I replaced the whole harness, still have the message. Thinking I have to replace the whole sensor with latch.

      Possibly. That would be the second thing to look at. You can try spraying some wd-40 and see if it helps

    Tried all sprays, didn't work. Wires are not cut anywhere in the wiring loom. Even bought a new door lock actuator, and it still didn't fix it. I don't know what to do now? Any suggestions

    • @QuiteAlright
      @QuiteAlright  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You will have to test if the power is coming to the actuator. If it is not, there is a problem somewhere in the wiring, even could be a problem in a junction box

      @@QuiteAlright I ended up cutting the entire wrap off about 3 inches into the door, was a broken wire. Got it all fixed up, that's man good video.

      Don't sweat it as if the doors are closed then ignore the messages🙃

    They need to add another disconnect at the door. That way it's only a 6"-8" set of wires that be changed in 10 seconds

    None of my wires are broken. , what next the door lock and the door sensor don't work?

    • @QuiteAlright
      @QuiteAlright  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Possibly, could be the door sensor issue. Try lubricating with WD-40 and closing/opening the door multiple times

    I’d imagine you could repair the wires without removing the door. I will try it and get back to y’all.

      Yes you should be able to. Let us know how it went

    Couldn't you just pull the sleeve back and check if the wires are broken and twist then up with out taking everything apart?

    • @QuiteAlright
      @QuiteAlright  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes you probably could do a temporary quick fix that way. This video shows how to do it the right way and replace the complete harness.

    Why remove all the stuff in the door when the problem is right by the frame???

    • @QuiteAlright
      @QuiteAlright  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      In the video I was showing the right way on how to fix this problem and how to replace the complete wiring harness. Easy and temporary fix is to just fix those wires by the frame.

  • @millertime42046
    @millertime42046 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Kind of over kill you don't have to remove any of that just to fix the wires you patched. Only the rubber boot from door to body needs to be move to access it.

      That's true. I wanted to show in the video the right way of doing it and how to replace the complete wiring harness in case somebody decides for it
