I can't fault Morgan for wanting a family. Perhaps her timing wasn't the best, but it's wrong for anyone to second guess this decision. We can say that she places her personal life on a par, and perhaps ahead, of her professional life. If she had a driving desire to break records she wouldn't have taken 12 to 18 months off, especially in an Olympic year. That she isn't driven by the thought of breaking records displays her humanity, and that makes me like and respect her more. The best to Alex. This really is just a game.

Did I just see an international referee crew decide that someone was offside directly from a corner kick? That's a huge blunder. Whether the attacker at 3:26 was in an offside position or not (it looks extremely unlikely, the kick was taken from right on the goal line), you cannot commit an offside offense directly from a corner kick (or goal kick, or throw in). So it doesn't matter if she blocked the goalkeeper's view, or actually headed the ball, Haiti's goal should have stood.
You are right! The goal should have stood but it wasn't given. You can't make those errors when there is so much at stake. Rookie mistake. It could have been a completely different game if the goal stood. Remember the referee during Mexico vs Haiti during the Gold cup screwed Haiti as well. This needs to stop in Concacaf futbol. They always favor the USA and Mexico in CONCACAF.
The announcer said offside, because they didn’t see and they were guessing. It was called for interference, however.
@@kycone Is there any evidence that interference was the call? The flag straight up is a pretty clear indicator of offside.
@@SamuelPearlman I watched the actual game and the announcers talked about it after halftime. Nobody believes it was not a goal that I know of including the players. I was just commenting since this abbreviated version doesn't show that

I can understand near leadership wishing to stamp their mark on the team, but he's likely going to regret rejecting Mal Pugh. Whatever... what struck me about the games against Haiti and Panama? Sure they scored lots of goals but they were against two near hapless teams. In fact, if we consider the number of shots at goal that missed the target, the Haiti score could have been 7 or 8 zip, and the Panama game might gave been 10 or 12 zip. True, the team doesn't seem to be firing on all 11 pistons. But perhaps more importantly, there's no Alex Morgan, she of the killer instinct. Lloyd does possess it but she hasn't shown it in the last two games, and Rapinoe seems to be going through the motions. Indeed, it's early but if the US plays like this against the British, French, Brazilians, Australians, Germans, Swedes, or Dutch, the scores won't be at all lopsided, and the team is apt to come up short. I don't wish to sound negative, but the bottom line: the last two games resulted in lopsided wins but in neither was the US game sharp. I'm happy for the win, but I see no reason to become over confident.

If an offside player is deemed to have interfered with the keeper, offside can be called. In this instance a Haiti player heads the ball in an offside position.
