- After just finishing "Diablo 3, The Book of Cain" and the Diablo 3 release around the corner, I myself wanted to catch up on some of the lore of the past 2 games. After watching the clips on youtube I decided to grab the clips from the games and put them all into one montage video.
These are all the cinimatics from Diablo 1, Diablo 2 and D2 Lord of Destruction. I will add time codes here to jump to the beginning of each respective clip! Enjoy! - เกม

Im just going to politely point out that compared to how fast he had been moving before this he might as well have been sprinting. The point was not that he was moving fast but that suddenly he had grown much stronger and was no longer barely able to walk. Sad that I have to point this out but you are probably a little slow so it's all good.

I agree with this 100%. I think as the VFX jumped from d2-d3 they focused more on "Lets make this EPIC" vs "This looks like garbage so lets make it creepy"
Playing D2 and not being able to see anything except darkness after a few yards around your character was the most terrifying thing. You never really knew when you were walking head first into a huge group of champion mobs, or worse, a huge mob of fetishes in act 3. It was also the best part of the whole games feel.

Is it just me or would it not just be better to CARRY the soul stone opposed to lodge it inside your head? (Not played Diablo one so can't say I know the lore behind how they work)
I tired to get as much quality out of the games bink files as I could... but it was like trying to get blood out of a rock. This is as good as it gets. The cinematics just looked like this... THEY ARE OLD!!! =D We all remember them looking a bit more polished but they weren't. They were still amazing at the time they came out... only Square and the Final Fanatasy games were better than Blizz at cinematics... safe to say Blizz is a top dog in this department currently. New stuff looks great!
What does mean to destroy the world stone ?
I always wondered : why is Marius holding his arm hidden ? I have this strange memory of seeing that arm being shown at some point, being all distorted and twisted. Is it just me ? Marius would say something like "Look at what that stone has done to me" and he would reveal his arm...
Just imagine the essence of Diablo existed and someone got a hold of the stone! It would be insane!!
That would be great idea, but look what happened to Marius when he carried Baal's soulstone. It ravaged his mind and sucked the life from him, making him age faster. Then he gave the stone to what he thought was Tyrael, which it was Baal impersonating him. It then cost him his life and soul anyway.
D1 D2 make D3 looks like a spongebob cartoon
the character from the first game isn't Cain's son. It's Leoric's oldest. When you think about it, big ol' D has it out for that family. He tried to possess Leoric and failed, then he possesses Albrecht, Aiden, and Leah.

This is the original story, why is it that diablo 3 seems to have absolutely nothing to do with this? What happened to Baal? What happened to Mephisto? What about the warriors that kept the soul stone going? Now it’s off onto “the nephilim” and other ridiculousness

D3 looks like shit compared to either of these games.
What Diablo 3 lacked was setting fear into the player.
In diablo 3 all the prime evils chat with you constantly. They annoy you and you charge at them to get it over with. Thats it.
Diablo 1 is a lot darker, with better sounds and more atmosphere. And Diablo simply runs at you to kill, and your first reaction is to run away.
+merathy just finished on normal and I just melted through everything like butter with my Monk. They made Diablo 3 "casual friendly" where you pretty much never need to heal yourself. A big part of the fear in the other two for me was having to return to a hellhole to retrieve your shit ;)
+merathy Wow, you're exactly right. I never, not once, felt even a tad bit uneasy in Diablo 3. I think a large part of it has to do with the fact it's so social you never truly feel a sense of isolation. Also the game itself is so incredibly easy, I never went into a fight with the notion I might lose.

Is it me or do game cinematics made in the late 90s have this dark gloom to it? Like what engine did they use? I noticed starcraft and fallout cinematics also have this kind of dark gloom in it.

I think it's a choice. Spongy anime characters with bright colors is the meta now. You can see that with the new marvel movies compared to the old ones. Or wow today, compared to wc3 cinematics
By having darker lighting it helps to cover up the technical deficiencies of the time.

If only Blizzard hadn't lost a majority of the developers that created the first 2 - D3 might've been so different. Love the eerie horror and occultism that the originals brought, the new one was too overly heroic and glorified for me.

Exactly, the graphics was overwhelming and i couldn't believe how advanced and detailed it was. Really scary and strange times.
I still remember seeing that LoD intro cutscene for the first time and thinking "Damn, look at that dude's fur! Graphics have gotten so realistic!".

Second part is a work of art. First part can be upgraded. When I was a kid I was always waited for a fightings and more armored heroes stuff (everything is missing). For Diablo 2 was created a lot of 3D models and basically all the game is in 3D, but somehow the story line tells about Diablo, not about heroes, some mystery

D1 and D2 are from Blizzard North. And The shit D3 from Blizzard Activision its complete other guys and studio.
Worst yet North had been working on d3 for a while by the time the merger with Activision occurred. They didnt want the MMOARPG they were creating to compete against the cash cow they were milking with WoW...so they scrapped it and Blizzard North was dissolved.
And the original concept of D3 before Blizz South took over were much better Artstyle than the current D3 we got even though it were not completed polished yet !!!
