Just purchased a Talmeter on recommendation of Peter Millard. A bit of research and I found the product on Amazon USA. Nice price, around USD $26. Yes, the pointy bits on the blade and bottom of the case are quite sharp. I look forward to learning more about the Hultafors Talmeter 🌟
One of the European subscribers to my woodworking channel, AskWoodMan, sent me a 3m Hultafors Talmeter. If I had one word to describe this tool, it would be "brilliant". He knew I am trying to leave the imperial system for metric. This new tape will help a lot. Now I have to figure out how to get my hands on that 6m tape. :)
Allan if you recommend it I will have to get one. I am still so happy I followed your advice on the Bessey all metal ratchet clamps and the one handed belt sander From Porter Cable. Top tools that are a pleasure to use.
I read about the TALMETER somewhere, and thought it sounded like a super tool, then I saw a picture of it, and started laughing. I had allready been using it for six months...
I have vintage talmeter I got from dad. :) I knew many of the things in the video but I do not think my talmeter has the hole on the tape itself. I have to check! There are something else dad showed me but I forgot. Or maybe that was with the "meterstock".
Is this tape measure made of 100% nylon, or is it made of stainless steel? Please give me feedback, kindly How durable is it, it rusts easily, do you still have it? Tell us your experience with this product, hugs Would you recommend these measuring tape or would you recommend another brand?
It would be handy to ha e a video of how to change the blade. It says on the pack tou can change them but i cant find info on how to do it anywhere. I juat killed a new tape measure so would like to make use of the blade by retrofitting it into a older tape measure.

The upsides: Can take internal measures faster and more accurately than the old way of bending the tape over and guesstimating, the 3m (and 2m) are great for boxing in around pipework, etc and save loads of time and the ability to score plasterboard or mark off directly is brilliant The downsides: Not as durable as I'd like (the points can get damaged far too easily on the 6m and the tape itself is rather flimsy compared to say a Bahco Ergo 8m or even the 5m), too short (6m? 8 or 10m would be far more useful for a carpenter). Still good enough to use one regularly, but it isn't my only tape
Am I stupid or when taking external measurements the talmeter gives a 1mm longer reading? This is because differently from other tape meters. the front tip does not move and therefore its thickness is included in the measurement.

9/10 for my 3m version. I only wish the scale was printed more clearly (it is accurate, but just fuzzy) and that both the marking points were made of thicker, more robust metal.

I'm sold. I probably can't afford it, though. I have to pay traffic (unjust, btw) fines before any discretionary purchase or I might go to jail. (Yeah, I know it's irrelevant to the video, but that's what's going on with me.)
Too bad Hultafors had to radically change the design of the previous version (blue and green). The needle is much shorter and wont last as long, and the flip out tip hook-up solution is replaced by a sliding cover. Degrading a good design like this, will only serve to degrade Hultafors as a high quality brand. I hope the next version will be more like the blue and green generation again. Talmeter is all about form and function, and less about look.

Making numbers on the Left and rightof the blade edge for easy to read for mor acuracy and of course double sided. For the rest more shock proof mor durability like a old mercedes
6m one.. mechanism doesn't work.. pretty poor quality controll. especially for this pricerange unacceptable. Apart from that for the €40 you could have made the end-piece exchangeable for a less pointy thing..
Why are almost all tape measures made for left handed people? a right handed person holds the tape in the left hand, hooks the tape onto the right side of the material and uses the pencil in their right (dominant) hand and this puts the numbers upside down, unless you do the "crossy arm contortionist thing" as someone who has had a tape in his hand for most of his adult life I can work with it (no choice) but it still frustrates me, there are some with the numbers the correct way for right handed people but they are usually cheap and gimicky.
Lasted less than 6 months of very light (hobby) use. From new was always slow to retract, finally failed. Gently eased out to find the connector strip had cracked all way across. Emailed UK HQ, not even courtesy of a reply. Ditto the website message system. Utter Rubbish.

Surely marking after taking an internal measurement is going to be slightly short?

Unfortunately we dont have any retailer in the U.S. But I just checked ebay.co.uk and amazon.co.uk, and they both have the Talmeter for sale.

I love mine for its function, but it's robustness does seem to be lacking.
So it takes more than one hand to release any other tape? 😂😂
