- This video depicts all cutscenes with Bambi "Buck" Hughes, the tertiary antagonist in Far Cry 3. The text on the screen is in swedish.
His story began in Australia, where he joined the armed forces at an early age. But his commanders quickly discovered his perverse addiction to inflicting pain, and dismissed him. He fell into mercenary work, leading to a contract with Hoyt Volker, the South Pacific's most notorious drug-runner and slave trader. Hoyt realized that Buck's ferocious combat skills and unrelenting brutality could be of use. Since then, Buck has answered to no other. When Hoyt needs a kill, Buck gets the call.
He buys Keith from Hoyt, and it is heavily implied that he raped Keith during this time. Jason eventually kills Buck, getting Keith back.

elijahproto I’m in a small minority that actually liked Jason. Yeah it’s unlikely as hell how a party boy would turn into a vicious one man army like that but hey, it’s a game and it’s fiction in the end. All the drugs, trauma, situations putting him in position to become that is believable in a fictional world. You never know if you’re a good killer unless you try it out right?
I liked this kill because you know that in his last moments, Buck realized that he had messed with the wrong person.
And knife fights in this game are fun and I wish there were more

The caves and ruins were cool, and I also liked the history lessons (they were entertaining)
Almost forgot I was even playing FC3.
They were neat at first but they're the same thing chained in a row.
You'd run your ass all the way to him to a temple, you'd loot it, then he'd greet you when you make it out. Then he TPs to the next temple, where you run to him again.
If they had sprinkled in the temple missions, it would have made Bucks character last longer and have more impact, plus the missions would feel less repetitive

Far Cry 3 Made the best Characters. Their not villians, they were actual characters you loved or hated

Its funny because as an Australian i really only see two types of aussie characters: extremely over the top to the point of being annoying and: no real point in being australian as nothing funny or interesting is done with them. What i am trying to say is that buck is hands down the best australian character created

It's nice to have representation in the game and I love the character design, as awful a bloke as he is. The accent is great but you can tell it's not an Australian doing it. Still accurate and fitting for the character. He has the sound of an older Australian who might have come from a good, wealthy family then got into some bad shit after he was in the army. Pretty much bang on what the character is meant to be.
Sounds australian to me, just not like the rural trash and over-actors.

No worries. I forgot I wrote this, but I stand by what I said. For some extra context, since you're obviously a fan of the series:
The standard Australian accent is on a spectrum between "Broad" (Steve Irwin, Sophie Monk) and "Cultivated" (Nicole Kidman, Geoffrey Rush).
With some exceptions to the rule, "Cultivated" tends to hint that the person grew up in a city, was educated well, has wealthy parents, is older, etc.
That's how I think Buck sounds. Like he's educated, intelligent, arrogant and so on with the lunatic monster thing layered on top.
They could have made him sound like the murderer in Wolf Creek, which wouldn't have worked as well when he's talking about the history of the island and stuff.
There's no shortage of foreigners doing Aussie characters in shows, games, etc. But this is by far the best job, in my opinion.
There are some words and phrases that don't sound right. In the first scene when he says "Product" and softens the U, or when he says "Capitalists", it sounds like hes doing a funny voice. You can write a lot of that off on him being eccentric.

At 5:20 when I did the run through it was timed so perfectly when Buck said " no mate, I just know where you are headed" the weather in-game turned into a rain storm, tell me that's not foreshadowing

***** It was meant to be a foreshadow that he was slowly becoming this monster that was beginning to kill his enemies not because he felt the need to, but that he was doing it because he enjoyed it. And Buck could see that in him because he was the same.
That's awesome! Something similar happened to me during the final shoot out on red dead redemption. Giant thunderstorm started when jack walked up to the FBI agent. It was awesome.
I think the game was bugged or something with the weather, I only ever saw a rainstorm right after that mission at the start where you hunt boar and never saw one again.
It also isntnatly just flicked to rainy as fuck and then instantly flicked back to normal about 2 minutes later.

The first time I encounter him, I thought he was only the crazy treasure hunter and kind of "friendly" with Jason. The more I do what he wants, the more I know if he was the villain too.
Buck is also probably my favorite character in the game. You gave Buck so much personality and added this kind of twisted humor to him. Awesome job!

I find him likable. Same with Pagan from FC 4. As unquestionably despicable as their actions are, they have a certain charisma and relationship with the player that is familiar.
I think it's perfect. Jason kills a washed-up perverted veteran while recovering the knife, the symbol of his transformation into a warrior. I think it marks just the beginning of his warrior path.

There needs to be a DLC where you play as the bad guys ( Buck, Vaas, Hoyt, etc) and make the choices for what happens. for example, instead of Buck not letting them leave, you could keep the deal and laet them go. it would be pretty cool.

Aside from Vaas, Buck is my favorite character, so much personality in him. Hoyt's just a huge asshole, seeing more of Vaas/Buck would make the game more.
He got resurrected and joined an elite CTU called JTF2.

What i thi k a lot of people dont recognize is that when jason activates the compass, hes the only one to react. Buck doesnt fucking care whats going on and combined with bucks boss fight taking place in a strange ethereal realm soon after this, i think jason is startimg to lose it at least at this part in the game
Jason also says "I've got you" to the knife first before he even looks at Keith. Just like Willis said, "the synapses in your brain go dark little by little" Jasons personality has started to twist because of the Jungle
+Mad Monty The insanity of the island is more disassociation from society. Everyone just goes aheads and follows their instincts, they don't follow the norm because there is no norm.
Jason talking to the knife is a good example of this; to him, now, this knife is what matters in his little personal society. Keith.. is just a remnant of the past. A 'reason' to do all the fun stuff he's been doing up till then.
