  • Finally getting round to uploading a video of how I designed and built a Danish inspired lounge chair having finished it well over 6 months ago!!!!
The chair was made out of Poplar or Tulipwood as its also known. The joins where all cut using a panel saw with various templates to accurately manage the angles. A Festool Domino made the whole process a lot easier too!
The finish was a sprayed waterborne lacquer made by chestnut finishes with a hand rubbed satin sheen using wax.
I had the cushions made by a local company called Interior Fabrics.

    Thanks for watching!

Seriously gorgeous stuff man. I'm in the planning stages of making a Wegner 290 inspired chair and discovered this. Looks great!

@@GeorgeHeatley I'll try to report back! It won't be soon by any means, but yeah, excited. I don't see a ton of this style out there, compared to other MCM stuff. I like it a lot.

One of the most beautiful seats I've ever seen. Congratulations!!! The combination of angles and dimensions looks perfect! I would like to know the project.

Hi George - by chance do you have templates available? I love this style and I'd love to try and do something similar. Thank you for posting this great work.

I really liked the end result. It’s fantastic! It’s just a shame that the video showed the build at such a fast pace. As a trainee cabinet and furniture maker, I would have really liked to have seen more of the build, but much slower. Granted, the video would have been longer, but it could have been edited to show certain key parts. I also don’t want this comment to seem negative, because it’s not meant to be, it’s just that I (and many more) would have liked to have seen more of the process, because the chair is superb and quite beautiful.

Thanks for the kind words, your comment doesn’t come across negative at all. I never really filmed the process with much thought behind it to be honest but I know what you’re saying… I for one watch various woodworkers TH-cam channels and enjoy seeing the details and explanations behind them. It’s just very time hungry and I don’t really make an effort to do anything on TH-cam. For me it’s a case of I’ll film this a bit plonk it all together with some music and perhaps someone will find it interesting haha!
Good luck in your training! If there’s anything in particular you’d like to know about this chair by all means fire away!

Hey, amazing work! Love it!! I’m wondering what’s inside the pillows? What are the layers? Because I’m doing a Ligna chair makeover and it has similar pillows and I have no experience in it but really want to try!

I love the style of this chair. Is the sketchup model available anywhere? I am updating my office, and would like to use it in my 3D model layout.

Could you tell me what thickness of wood you used to make this armchair? Three, four centimeters?

Lana Brown Hi Lana, as for the dimensions of this, I can’t remember what they are off the top of my head. I would suggest looking at chairs/furniture of a similar design and getting the rough measurements for height, width and depth. For this chair I played around with the design on sketch up and various drawings on paper. From that you can make a template out of some ply or mdf to see how it looks in the flesh. I actually made a mock up of the chair out of ply so that I could get an idea of the size etc, that way you can at least make changes to the mock up before going ahead and making out of your chosen material. I hope this helps, if you have any more questions feel free to give me a message. I’ll be happy to help in any way I can.
      Thanks George.
