    I just ordered this 90mm for my XT3. Wish I would have saw this video first. I would like to take portraits inside as well. I'm new to photography and on a budget. What lens is great for portraits inside?

    My 90mm isn’t responding. It says “turn off the camera and turn on again”. I’ve tried it on 2 different bodies and it says the same thing. What should I do?

    Can you recommend the lens in combination with IBIS for more versatility ?

    Out of all the Fuji prime lenses I have, when I shoot a simple subject that has good contrast, like my Keystone 16mm camera, the 90mm detail pops like nothing else I've seen. It's on the level of the Contax 105mm Macro for the 2 1/4 system. A 3D pop. It makes you look and look at the image.

    I am a portrait photographer. I have the XT2 and the 35F2 and the 56 1.2. I’m a little disappointed in my outside shots coming from a Full Frame 5DM3, in terms of stark background separation. I want a headshot lens where the background is absolutely gone. Just creamed into painterly Bokeh. Do you think the 90 will do that on my XT2? I’m considering moving to it for outside. If I shoot inside, I’m all studio strobe. The 90 will be my outside lens. Will it rival my old canon 85mm 1.8 or even the 135L?

    • @KenTheoriaApophasis
      @KenTheoriaApophasis  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      yes, if you have enough subject separation from the background also, have you seen teh FLICKR page for the 90mm f2?

    I think they should have put IS in it. So another 100 grams. It is already pretty big and I prefer to use it with a grip. what's another 100 grams. Yes some say having iS degrades image quality but its b.s. there are plenty of lenses with IS and great image quality

    Hey i was wondering if you could inform us how the 90mm f2 performs in sports action. You stated that it has a quad-linear auto focus (blazing fast) but the problem is that it you said it sucks indoor. Would the 55-200 be a better lens? I shoot, boxing, soccer, dogs (squirrels on crack), and indoor dodgeball and other random bits n bobs. Thanks!

    • @KenTheoriaApophasis
      @KenTheoriaApophasis  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      yes, no OIS, i wouldnt think of using it indoors over a 50 140

    • @lorenzonarwhal
      @lorenzonarwhal 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Theoria Apophasis but for indoor sports the high shutter speed wouldn’t avoid any issue as even ois would do? I mean, f2 over f2.8, faster AF and on a 1/1000 ss the 50-140 ois would be however a better choice (both at 90mm)?

  • @khronokraze
    @khronokraze 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Was seriously debating getting the 90mm f/2 to get that tighter compression and really nice bokeh, but kind of holding off.
    Since recently at Photokina I believe the 80mm f/2.8 Macro WR OIS is basically confirmed for release probably sometime next year in 2017 (hopefully earlier than later), I think.. I'm hoping.. it may do almost as well, if not better, as a both a nice 1:1 macro lens and double duty just as well as a portrait lens. I'm not expecting the same compression and out of focus background, but I would expect really nice results as both macro and portrait lens, none the less, to make it a good candidate to be the proverbial kill the 2 birds with 1 stone lens.
    The AF speed?.. hmm.. will see, hoping it'll be fast and snappy as can be, but I feel typically macro lenses haven't been necessarily the fastest focusing lenses, however.
    Thanks for your impressions and recommendation on the 90mm f2.

      @@KenTheoriaApophasis Hi Ken, great admirer of you channel. Shooting action sports, think that I take the XT3 to its limits. Just ended an indoor tennis tournament with the 50-140...apparently struggling at 2.8 - thought that 90mm F2 would be a salvation. Outdoor tennis requires SS up 2000 to get the ball. I was trying to keep my ISO lower as possible and tried a trade off SS1000, ISO 2000. Had another photographer, different gear, went up ISO 6400...is that the solution?
      Been lucky and able to shoot right on the court, next to the net, usually focal length around 60 to 70 - thought that 90mm would be ideal... just worried about the XT3 without IBIS... Waiting for 2021 for the second body XH.....2...?

    Ken, I agree with your assessment on this XF90...It IS insanely sharp, and in fact, it's the sharpest lens I've ever used in 35 years in photography! As for AF speed, yes, that's super fast as well, but as a landscape shooter, not the reason I went with it. Also, as for "not being an indoor lens", you are correct...if you use strobe, it makes agreat product photography lens precicsely because it's sharper than my XF60mm Macro, which I was using for product shots until I tried this lens! Thanks again.

    Watched this review several times now, once, or twice, when I was considering purchasing this lens (and didn't), a few months ago, and now, again, when I have.
    Each time I grow more incredulous at the tale of the guy discharging a revolver six times, reloading, and firing all six again, inside 2 seconds!.
    I'm in the UK, and I've never handled a revolver in my life, but it just doesn't seem feasible.
    Ok. Just looked it up, and watched the video, extraordinary . I was gonna call you on it, but it's true.
    That's really swift.
    Anyway. what do you reckon to portraits of performers, under stage lighting, in small venues.? For this lens, and me (X-Pro 2) I mean.
    I could even use a monopod or tripod.
    I photograph performances in a little theatre, literally, and can get very close to the stage, but the 56mm is not quite long enough for full facials, from the auditorium.
    So, I shoot shots with the 56mm, that are head and shoulders. or half body, I often know I'm going to crop in to the face
    I usually use the 56 wide open, to emphasise expression, by throwing the background out.
    So I'll probably get a good enough shutter speed at 20, or 30 feet.
    Getting a "grey import", hope it's ok, 100 pounds cheaper than all well known online retailers.

      he has good videos on lenses but that statement he made about not being an "indoor lens" is nonsense. indoor events u will usually already be over the reciprocal rule for this lens as OIS or no form of IS can freeze a moving subject at concerts or sports for example. F2 is more than possible to achieve that at reasonable ISO too. he obviously just rushed this video as most of his videos. not much thought put in to the video = garbage out.

      +iforgotmyusername0 I have to agree with Angry what keeper rate concern.Reception indoor is usualy at least 1/250 and I would not open to f2 , but at least f4 to get people ar reception in the proper focus.This require (in dim light) at least iso 6400 or using flash (last one is not always possible) higher where noise start to creep in to image.The point is if you want most output of this lens you should have a good light.

    It is kind of strange, but I sold my full frame Canon 1Ds mark iii, and decided to be a Fuji person. Honestly, Canon bokeh is kind of shit. It is an overpriced quick focus and crappy end image. For today I am a Fuji fan, I got brand new X H1 with a grip, and my next dream is gfx 50s. Can anyone bit that family? probably not. Ok maybe Hasselblad, but you really need to cash out.
