And this is why Matt’s Bagpipe channel is the best. I have been playing Rowan Tree for years and recently forgot how to play Phase 3. Pull up the TH-cams, go to Matt’s channel and get a quick refresher on Phrase 3. Thanks Matt!
I get a lot out of your videos Matt. Thank you so much for making these videos. What brand of practice pipes do you use in this video? I like their sound a lot.
I am having a blast making these video and am delighted so many people are getting something from them. The pipes are Twist Trap practice pipes from RG Hardie: th-cam.com/video/nvLKJRD-N5U/w-d-xo.html
I need help using a metronome with this tune! I can play along with this video, but playing on my own I can’t keep the beat with my metronome, any suggestions would be appreciated, it’s the starting on the +4 that’s throwing me…
I'd start without worrying about starting "on four". Put the metronome on like 1/4 time and just try to stay on the beat without worrying about the specific beat number.
Quick question for you. When you see practice pipes is this the same as small pipes? I was considering buying a set of the shepherd small pipes and didn't know if this was what you were talking about. Great video man. Thanks a bunch
Practice pipes are basically smallpipes, but they tend to have practice chanter reeds for the drones instead of smaller but regular single-tongue style drone reeds. Practice pipes also tend to be quieter. But they can be quiet to a point they wouldn't readily be heard over other instruments like guitar. The Shepherd smallpipes have more volume and a more traditional drone reed style, but would work great as a transitioning instrument as well.
Matt, my preferred bagpipe store (The Pipe Band Store, Lanarkshire) asks me, for full GHBs, to choose bag size (choices: extra small, small, medium, large) and blowpipe length 8-11". I've got some RG Hardie practice pipes winging their way towards me so this is very far from urgent. But I wondered if you had any advice please ?
Glad you enjoyed the video! As for a better mic... Is there something in particular that's bothersome? I don't want the microphone in the shot, so by being off camera, it's a bit further away. But you're the first to complain about sound quality of the audio in one of my videos.
@@MattWillisBagpiper You could use a clip on mic,- lavalier mic. Sits on your tshirt and picks up everything. Or maybe a wireless Rode Go. Even a shotgun mic would improve. For my taste there is to much ambient sound to your voice. If I am the only one saying so, you should just skip it. Than it is just me. Happy piping.

very helpful explanation of phrase two. Excellent lessons
Thank you! 😃
Brilliant as always, thanks Matt
Glad you enjoyed it!
This helps a lot. While the version I am doing is slightly different than yours, the parts I'm having problems with you cover well. Thank you.
Glad it helped!
I’ll work on it until I see you again on Sunday for our lesson.
Super video, as always. Not used to the second grip, but it sounds great.
Thank you
You're welcome!
Beautiful!
Thank you! Cheers!

@@MattWillisBagpiper thanks so much! I’ll give that a try! I think I can wrap my mind around that👍

Jim McGillivray's site has some good info on all that: piping.on.ca/highland-pipes-selection/
Definitely Rao-wan not Roh-wan! Edit. Love the idea of this wearable metronome. Mind you, I still have a proper old school pendulum one!!
Get a better mic.... great video. Thanks.
