    Amazing work!!!
    As far as exposure goes is the flash on ttl? Or you just know what flash power to use from experience?

    • @Garbid
      @Garbid 11

      What works best for you but mostly everybody is working manually. Just check histogram after test shot to don't overexpose the subject.

    • @NeilRedfern

      Thank you very much Walter! Yes, exactly as @Garbid says, I would suggest using your speedlights in manual rather than ttl - that way you are more in control of the power settings. I take a couple of test shots to make sure I am happy with the flash power and then I know that as long as the distance between the light source (the MagBox in this instance) and the subject doesn't change, it will always be where I want it to be. If anything, in this shoot the flash was a little 'hot' so I probably should have dropped the power slightly, that is what happens when you are making a video and trying to concentrate on too many things at once - that is my excuse anyway 😂

    great video. I still have old magbox 24 with the "patented" diffuser. Do you prefer the new one with grid ? Only one ad200pro is required here in HSS (but short distance) ? is the rear flash used for hairs along the fence ?

    • @NeilRedfern

      Thank you Marc! Yes, personally I prefer the grid over the diffuser because it lessens the light spill. Yes, I only used one AD200 and even that will have been at a very low power because the MagBox was positioned so close to Elle. There was only ever one flash used in this video, what you can see in the background near the fence is a GoPro on a lightstand, which was filming the shoot. Thank you again :)

    Hi Neil, Awesome content. I only have a question, I have sony a7iii and it seems like hss is not working so can you share settings on your camera and how you made it work? I use Godox V1 + Trigger xpro for sony. thanks

    • @NeilRedfern

      Thank you very much Peter! HSS is something which you will need to turn on, on the trigger. I don't have an A7iii so don't know whether there is a setting on the camera itself which you need to turn on also, but my guess is that you haven't turned it on on the trigger itself? I hope this helps :)

    • @Garbid
      @Garbid 11

      It's need to be switched on on a trigger. Just check TH-cam for xpro tutorials. Probably v1 also.

    • @peterboshra

      Thx@@NeilRedfern for your reply. I did that on both Trigger and flash, I also set my flash to fill flash not rear sync, I also changed my e-curtain front shutter to on / off, I mean I tried both settings but it still not working Like the flash is fired after i take the shot

    • @Garbid
      @Garbid 11

      @@peterboshra Yeah) probably you didn't install the syng in hot shoe properly. You should push it till the end forward. As sony triggers have litle contact on the front!) I had same problem when didn't push it on my a6600. Try and write here result. It's common problem for Sony cameras as they have not only pins on the shoe but like copper contact on the Front. They must reach. Check the trigger if it's for sony it must have little contacts made from copper.

    Hi Neill! As always awesome content. Questions. Do you remove light spill on the ground when composing and removing light? Can you do the same with white translucent umbrella let's say 100 cm at least outdoor? Will the light spill be larger taking into account square law? Just thinking about more light setup at least outdoors)

    • @NeilRedfern

      Thank you so much! Great question - yes I do remove the light spill, but usually at 50% opacity as I don't want to take it all away, just enough to bring it down so that it isn't too distracting. And yes, you could certainly do the same, the light spill would be larger I imagine as I was using a grid on the MagBox here to lessen the spill, but you could remove that spill in post when editing in Photoshop using layers. I hope this helps? Thank you again

    Hi Neil. Quick question when Helen moves away do you switch flash off for next shot or because she’s moved quite away it doesn’t matter hopefully I’ve explained myself

    • @NeilRedfern

      Great question! I should turn it off but I probably didn't, as in reality once the flash is facing away from the model or further back it won't matter, but yes, best practice would be to turn it off

    With the generative fill settings on PS now, I’m finding there isn’t much of a need to shoot a clean plate shot.

    • @NeilRedfern

      Good point! I did that with two of the images in the video and it was brilliant. I find it less effective if I am trying to remove a larger area but I imagine in a couple of years it will even be able to do that

    • @0730Media

      @@NeilRedfern I’ve just done the same with a wedding I shot last week at the Bolholt. Had my missus light the couple with light on a pole and rather than shoot a clean plate shot, just removed her with generative fill, and it did an awesome job.
      Still though, another excellebr video Neil ☺️☺️👍🏻
