For everyone commenting and saying they hate this arrangement: you guys have to understand that Tokyo Kosei is basically a pop music band. They perform stuff to entertain regular audiences, which is why they don't often do "serious" or "modern" stuff like Husa, Maslanka, Persichetti, etc. This arrangement is totally in character for them.
What are you talking about? Its not for them, its an accepted arrangement through out the wind orchestra society - played in many different official contests accross the globe!
this version is so well done. played really well in honour of the original song but given the tokyo kosei feel to it! really like this version for what it is.
I've binged on every variation I can find of Naohiro Iwai 's arrangement of Rhapsody in Blue and *no one* comes close to the Tokyo Kosei orchestra. For all of the elitists whining because this version isn't yet another hyper-restored rendition, lighten up. It's just a fun film-like rendition and deserves praise on its own merits. If you want to get an idea of what you're dissing, just listen to 90% of the other orchestras absolutely butchering Iwai's arrangement. Tokyo Kosei is the only one I've found that makes the aggressive tempo change after the opening clarinet solo, and it makes the difference between sheer pain and an energetic rendition. Plus, you're getting a clean, absolutely professional performance here.
Here it is, a Tokyo Kosei version of the crown jewel of any clarinetist skilled enough to play it. I really like this jazzier version of the piece, but the original will always be better. Still, I love this piece. Good job on making this more modern, Tokyo Kosei wind orchestra.
He's the best Arranger of all times! Japanese arrangers are so good and talented!!! Nahohiro Iwai unfortunately died recently, but there are so many brilliant japanese arrangers like Tohru Takahashi or Masamicz Amano. I love them all because they are realllly great !!!!!
Lighten up. Some of us enjoy the big band interpretation that Naohiro Iwaii brought to Gershwin's classic. There's a place in this world for both. The only insult here is the presence of outright music snobbery.

Brilliant, the updating really fits in to the swing era style that new york has embodied!!!!

Song: Is Rhaposdy in Blue.
Background: Is purple.
Both versions have their unique styles, and I appreciate both for their own interpretations.
Because there's no point in denying that they're good ;)
the version from fantasia 2000 is my favorite. This one is good too.
Johnny Guerrero The best version by far is Bernstein's performance with the LA Phil. He spent his whole amateur music career perfecting this piece.
Excelente interpretación de la Orquesta, sin duda una de las mejores del mundo.
all of your arrangement are so good ,modern and unique ....great job
Naohiro Iwai. We played it a few years ago and I did the clarinet intro :)

We all have different tastes, I love the Bernstein and New York Philharmonic recording, but this is a different approach, I enjoy it immensely.

The players are amazing as usual, but this arrangement... is too "pops concert" for me.
what the fucking hell... no.
The drums almost seem like an insult it just makes it stereotypical jazz nothing memorable like the real rhapsody in blue
