This was a song that spoke a thousand words and they all left me touched for life. I feel that not enough movies put manhood in perspective. It's a much needed lesson for my generation. So much entitled ways of thinking. This is the most underrated Disney film right up there with Atlantis
I agree, there are a lot of Disney movies about girls coming into their own and truly discovering themselves. But not many about a boy becoming a man and discovering what that truly means. Id really enjoy to see more of those.
I just watched this movie for the first time, I am 19... I can tell you that I have not seen such a stunning movie like that in a very long time. I loved it.

I remember bursting into tears whenever I watched the final scene when Jim sees him smiling at him from beneath the clouds. Aw man I fucking love this movie
So im not the only one ❤ i finally found this song and it's fucking beautiful , i feel like a bitch every time but it always somehow manages to make me cry 💧❤❤❤❤❤
Xephn Etinos I know! This movie was amazing! Saw it in theathers and haven't seen a disney movie or movie in general like this one in a while since then!
The post Renaissance of Disney is really something else. I was told that after their fairytale adaptation phase/the Renaissance they wanted to try to shoot for movies like Pixar. Surprisingly, not a lot of them did so well at the box office and with reviews! Atlantis, The Emperor's New Groove, Lilo and stitch, and Treasure Planet are some movies of that time that in my opinion are better than other post Renaissance movies.
Yea...in that phase they had a lot of movies that worked without the Protagonist finding the love of his life etc. Also before they somehow decided that Disney Princesses and CGI Remakes is all they care about
this song also still gets to me too always did always has always does always will forever and that is a promise and this is also always gonna be my number 1 favorite disney movie forever too and that is a promise
Effie Frangia the problem is when it was released. It had 2 big competitors that beat it: "Harry Potter & the Chamber of Secrets" and "The Santa Claus 2". Disney knew that this movie would struggle, but didn't bother to move the release or try to hype up the film more, instead giving vague or spoilery advertisements
Love this song so much. Makes me cry every time. Remembered this movie from my child hood and thought i would watch it again. From watching it as a kid i didnt understand the deep parts of this movie. Watching it again as an adult, it was a completely different experience. I understood so much more. Disney you did such a good job making this movie. It will always have a special place in my heart.
Last time I watched this movie and heard this song was 12 years ago... how time flies... when I heard this I got so emotional. Wow... I love this movie. I still have it on a VHS tape somewhere. An underated movie - I'm showing this to my future kids... a must watch for every human being :)
This song speaks to me on a personal level, This movie helped me through a rough time in my life and I can relate to Jim alot. The feeling of not being good enough for anyone, trying to do big things and failing, this song, this movie, its so much more deep then many realize.
For the longest time I genuinely thought it was Iris that played in this movie instead. Then I rewatched it a couple months ago and imagine my surprise.

Today I was saying how it was an amazing movie and my classmates that sit near me have never seen it and one of them said "that's why your weird" I take that as a compliment, they don't know any better.
Haley Jerman But really, I never realized that so few people actually know about this movie until less than a year ago! Because the Goo Goo Dolls became my favorite band around that time (even though I've really liked them since this song came out) so sometimes I have to try and explain to people who they are, and I tried to reference this movie and so many people didn't know it! And I was shocked at first, because I've always loved this movie. But rather than weird, I kinda prefer the term "cultured" ;)

I've had this DVD since I was 10 or 11 and I've loved this movie all along. I haven't watched it as many times as, let's say, The Road to El Dorado, but it's always been there in my mind. I am watching it again these days when I babysit and it speaks to me in a new way. It doesn't matter that Jim is a male character, anyone can relate to him, everyone's experienced self-doubt and feeling without a direction in life at least once. He pulls through and I love how he bonds with Silver. The whole movie is pure magic! Now that I think about it, it's going up sharply on my list of favorite animated movies. Music is amazing too :)

We have to make Disney make the next, i have done some research and there actually were a second movie in the works, but becuase of so little money they got from the first they scrapped it! I don't think they will make a sequel my friend. Because they lost money. I really loved this movie, one of my favourite movies. I would like a sequel but i dont think its happening :(

Best. Disney. Movie. Ever. Fuck Frozen this right here is my childhood. Its the only Disney movie that I can relate to! I also liked the crab spider guy his name slips my mind. But he's awesome
to give you a hint his name had a similar sound to poop, also why did you like him? I know that we all have our favorite characters and all but he was just really annoying to me so I have to ask?
it's easy to get upset about Treasure Planet and Atlantis not being as successful as most other Disney movies. I'm just glad to have been there to catch some of the light coming off those films.
This is the song that me and my man share. We made it our song because treasure planet is just one of those movies that just resides with everyone. We both love the movie to death. This song is just simply fantastic. Makes me wish iris by the Googoo Dolls would've made it into the movie. Or, nevertheless, the scrapped sequel.
“Now, you listen to me... You got the makings of greatness in you, but you gotta take the helm and chart your own course! Stick to it, no matter the squalls! And when the time comes you get the chance to really test the cut of your sails and show what you’re made of, well...I hope I’m there, catching some of the light coming off you that day...”
This movie is seriously underrated, it's almost a crime :(
Not almost. It is.
I think so too, the movie is good. Don't know why it's not popular.
Viet Vu screw the fact that this movie was under-rated! just screw it! this movie was flipping awesome!
JohnnyLoco27 "Almost"?.
But what about it's good nominations and good reviews

Arguably the most beautiful piece ever produced for a Disney film
I miss Disneys "weird" phase when they produced beautiful products like this movie

It's for sure the most imaginative of the eras in Disney. Things like Atlantis, Emperor's New Groove, etc. came out at this time as well.
Yea...in that phase they had a lot of movies that worked without the Protagonist finding the love of his life etc.

Interference with Disney.
Treasure Planet is very highly rated by everyone who's seen it, though it was definitely undermarketed and underexposed back in its day.
If you grew up in the early 2000's, you didn't miss out on alot of good stuff!!

Kinda off topic but the dialogue in this movie is really amazing

I love this track. It reminds me of the brilliant Goo Goo Dolls tune "Iris"
screeminjesus, if I'm not mistaken its played and sung by them.
This song is written and performed by John Rzeznik, lead singer of Goo Goo Dolls.

I am a question to the world
not and answer to be Heard
or a moment that's held in your arms
and what do you think you'd ever say
I won't listen anyway
you don't know me
and I'll never be what you want me to be
and what do you think you'd understand
I'm a boy no, I'm a man
You can't take me and throw me away
And how can you learn what's never shown
Yeah you stand here on your own
They don't know me
Cause I'm not here
And I want a moment to be real
Wanna touch things I don't feel
We want to hold on and feel I belong
And how can the world want me to change
They're the ones that stay the same
They don't know me
Cause I'm not here
And you see the things they never see
All you wanted I could be
Now you know me and I'm not afraid
And I wanna tell you who I am
Can you help me be a man
They can't break me
As long as I know who I am
They can't see me
But I'm still here
They can't tell me who to be
Cause I'm not what they see
Yeah, the world is still sleeping
While I keep on dreaming for me
And their words are just whispers and lies
That I'll never believe
And I want a moment to be real
Wanna touch things I don't feel
We want to hold on and feel I belong
And how can they say I'll never change
They're the ones that stay the same
I'm the one now
Cause I'm still here
I'm the one
Cause I'm still here
I'm still here
I'm still here
I'm still here

This song is just simply fantastic. Makes me wish iris by the Googoo Dolls would've made it into the movie. Or, nevertheless, the scrapped sequel.
Greatest movie of all time my brothers and sisters
Literally my favorite Disney movie. Nobody I know knows this one...

This movie deserves more respect than it gets
“Now, you listen to me... You got the makings of greatness in you, but you gotta take the helm and chart your own course! Stick to it, no matter the squalls! And when the time comes you get the chance to really test the cut of your sails and show what you’re made of, well...I hope I’m there, catching some of the light coming off you that day...”
This is one of my top 5 favorite songs ever!
I absolutely love the feelings I get when I play music from this movie, its like childhood just rolling over me, i dont know how to explain it 😊
this will forever be my favorite disney movie of all time, James had always had a special impact on me and my life, i will forever stand by that.
Because of this movie and this song, I was able to write my college entry essay #UnderatedFilm
"Your eyes are so beautiful..."
"Oh no, the captain's lost her mind!"
Captain Amelia: "Doctor, you have... wonderful eyes."
Dr. Doppler: "She's lost her mind!"
Those early 2000s cheesy ballads man... it gets me.
Also my favourite song
the other two favourite songs are maracatu atomico by nacao zumbi and layla by eric clapton
