2020 Winnebago Revel • Is it a Daily Driver?

  • Can the Revel replace a vehicle and become a daily driver? It's one way to justify the purchase and it just makes sense. But can you drive one comfortably around town? Are there issues with parking, going to the store, drive-up, and doing daily chores? My 2020 Winnebago Revel get TESTED daily.
    And don't forget about the Diesel Particulate Filter.

    * PLEASE NOTE * The SOS Safety System is run through the front speaker. So, leave speaker in place with white connector and unplug dark connector only. That mutes the speaker from the sound system but still enables the SOS. Thanks to viewer Roaming50 for that tips.

    showing the particulate filter load % is a very helpful feature that was not available in the previous model. I found on youtube a video regarding a device named scan gauge II, which does that and more. it costs 159$. not so esthetic but useful in keeping track of the particulate filter self cleaning process. in my 2016 sprinter 4x4 it occurs approx every 380 miles and lasts about 16 minutes.if it has started, it is probably better to continue driving at approx 2000 rpm until self cleaning finishes and turns off.

    • @Steamboatsmyhome

      Yeah - like the DEF gauge, the particulate one is good to keep an eye on.

    Your speaker suggestion included the NOTE works great on my 2020 Revel. Much better sound quality. Prior to upgrade I was having trouble adjusting the Volume on my Apple Car Play Maps guidance. Went into Setting on iPhone then Maps to Navigation Voice Volume set it to Low Volume. Nothing worked including volume on radio. Now with the speaker mod the radio volume adjustment raises and lowers the Map driving instructions. Thanks

    Hey Charlie! I am thinking about the Revel, and I have a couple questions for you. I plan on using the Revel for 3-4 week trips, where I will be living gin it full time. Is it easy to keep the coach at warm temperatures even when it's very cold out, like 10 degrees? Also, regarding using the water in it for showers, etc, what temperatures are you comfortable with before you feel you have to winterize. I know it is supposed to be a 4 season coach, and if I am living in it, I obviously can't winterize it. I will need the water. Thanks so much! John

    I just bought a new Sprinter 4x4, and am having a shop build the interior (like a Revel, but with shoulder belts and bunk beds). I did it this way for two reasons, 1) I could order the Sprinter exactly the way I wanted it (with ALL of the safety options, including shoulder belts for the rear seats (which I think is criminal for Winnebago to not offer) and 2) A white cargo van is stealthier. It should be done in May, so I look forward to using it!

  • @bigpapaporsche1

    Loved your Video, especially the roof top short, good comments!
    I
    am thinking of switching from a Travel Trailer with a MB GL450 Tow Vehicle, to a Class B Van, probably the Short WB, but definitely a Sprinter, regardless of the WB. We had a Class B+ on a 3500 Sprinter and like the MB chassis/Diesel engine. This vehicle will then become my Daily Driver, annual mileage 8-10,000 miles. I think the 144 Inch WB Sprinter with the single rear tires will do the job from a RV perspective.
    The main reason behind this change is to simply our RVing, and therefore do more of it, easier. Currently, were have $90,000.00 invested in our 2019. Oliver Elite 2 trailer and our 2015 GL450. Hopefully, we can find a used premium Class B, on a MB chassis (2012-2018) in the $100-$125,000.00 range.

    I tried that DPF drive thing and it did nothing. I went to the MB dealer and talked to their Sprinter mechanic and the service manager, they said that the DPF will go to 97% and when the temps reach a certain temp it then regenerates and went over some other things.

Trade-in our 2nd vehicle which has very low miles and is infrequently used, for a Revel or Boldt and then start doing more weekend trips in the RV. Love the color of you Revel. Much better than all the silver ones I usually see.

    • @Steamboatsmyhome
      @Steamboatsmyhome  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's where we started. What vehicle could the revel replace. Well, the Toyota Tundra. Now I can go anywhere, haul drywall if needed, even tons of bag of dirt. I can even throw anything in the back and call it good. Plus, it's much more comfortable to sleep in than the Tundra ; )

    • @wanttoplae
      @wanttoplae 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      SteamboatsMyHome.com are you concerned about buying the RV at one dealership, in a different state, and getting it serviced in CO? I’ve heard some say that they have trouble getting into service centers if they didn’t buy the RV at the same place. I know we’d like there to be no reason to have to go to a service center, but that doesn’t seem to be the case most of the time during the first year (of warranty coverage).

    • @Steamboatsmyhome
      @Steamboatsmyhome  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@wanttoplae It was a consideration, Yes. But at the time the price was so much better outside of Colorado I was selling to take the chance. I also worry a little less about the Winnebago part and more about the MB side. And that's covered here in CO.

      Hi Matt - I drove this home from Iowa in October. Nebraska and Wyoming were showing its best. Snow and wind were high. I-80 was nasty. And I feel it rode well in high gusts and large trucks all around. And yes, driving at 80mph was easy. With high winds I dropped to 65 but still it tracked straight. Personally I was impressed. That said, many owners upgrade with great results. See vancompass.com

    I'm kind of blown away that you would start dismantling and unplugging things on a $100k vehicle engineered by the best instead of asking questions or seeking help from MB themselves which you did not note in the video that you did or did not. I'm sure the equalizer function or sound profile would have fixed the speaker sound. Just saying...

    • @Steamboatsmyhome
      @Steamboatsmyhome  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for the comment. But I tried to change the setting within the sound profile but could not direct less volume to the center speaker and thus, it dominates the sound. As for going to MB for advise, yes. That is wise. But I live 3.5 hours from the closest dealer and just didn't take the time. Through many FB post on the Revel there's many discussions regarding the speaker. So I wasn't just blindly unplugging wires at will. Regards, Charlie
