  • The governor of Lagos state, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Tuesday, announced a N5bn pledge, towards the construction of a permanent site for the National Youth Service Corps Orientation Camp in the state.
The governor made the pledge, during his address as the special guest of honour at the NYSC Passing-Out Parade- Closing Ceremony, for the 2024 Batch B Stream I Corps Members.
The Governor also announced a sum of N100 million Naira for the NYSC support staff and a farewell gift of N100,000 Naira for each NYSC member departing camp.
Sanwo-Olu hosted a dinner at the State House to honour Noble Laurette Professor Wole Soyinka, on his 90th birthday.
During the dinner, Sanwo-Olu unveiled a special portrait of the renowned playwright.
Sharing photos from the event on X, The governor thanked Professor Soyinka, for showing through resilience, creativity, and dedication, that Nigerians can achieve greatness, adding that his Nobel Prize win many years ago opened the door for many to dream and believe that greatness is achievable.
The Nobel laureate, has opened up about the 1965 incident where he was reported to have broken into the Western Nigeria Broadcasting Service studio to broadcast a demand for the cancellation of the Western Nigeria Regional Elections, saying, that he never broke into the radio station but sneaked in, because the radio station was holding on to something that belonged to the people.
Wole Soyinka made the comment from his residence, in Abeokuta, on Monday, while answering questions from students on his life experiences for the past 90 years,
The playwright also stated, that he did not envisage living up to 90, adding that his Unfulfilled Dream Is To Visit Space.
Oyo State governor, Seyi Makinde has declared that the Federal Government is not superior to states, in the exercise of each other’s constitutional roles.
Makinde made the comment in Ibadan, at an emergency consultative meeting with stakeholders on Monday to appraise last week’s judgement of the Supreme Court which granted financial autonomy to local government areas across the nation.
Meanwhile, a clip of the 2023 gubernatorial debate, where the governor stated that he would not endorse Local Government Autonomy in Oyo state has resurfaced online.
The Niger State Government has issued a statement, to clarify a viral video showing the state Governor, Umar Bago ordering security personnel to slap a man who identified himself as a cleric, during a funeral prayer for the late wife of his deputy.
According to the Special Adviser to the governor on Print Media; the man in question was an impostor cleric who attempted to assume the role of an Imam during the Fidua prayers, adding that the individual has since apologized to the governor and the forum of Imams for his misconduct.
In the wake of Anti-government protests in Kenya, which began in June, in response to a bill, seeking to increase taxes, a clip from a debate on Tax Cuts for African countries on NBC’s television series ‘The West Wing’, has made the rounds on social media.
Alan Alda who plays the role of the republican nominee for the 2006 Presidential election, argued, that high taxes have killed any possibility of economic development in African countries.

Nigeria cannot launch anything, I study aerospace engineering and narsda is not doing anything. They need people like us to reform the thinking, but instead of them patronizing the skills, they choose based on politics.
Government is not also in support of anything related to space, since it’s not generating income for the nation. There are alot of things people like me can build, imagine Nigerian government buying drones from china, where we at kwara state university have 3d printers that can print those item and we can coupled it at a lesser price. That’s the country we found ourselves. We don’t prioritize our own flesh.
we have been taught well in school and we will be happy to use the skills to the benefit of our dear country.

If people like APC and Soyinka were alive in biblical times, they would never have allowed the truth of the bible to be written.
They would have used propaganda to cover any negative or mistake. They would have said King David didn't sin to collect Bathsheba, but he rescued her from her wicked husband Uriah! They would have said King Ahab built Jerusalem, and that prophet Elijah was wicked, jealous opposition leader. That is why he was preaching against Ahab. And of course their own version of Judas was not a betrayer, but was a rich accountant who fell and died because he was carrying heavy silver coins to give to the poor as palliative.
They will remix history and pretend as if nobody in power is capable of making mistakes or doing evil!

What is the shenanigans there? In 2000 i served in Cross River and Donald Duke who was governor then gave each corp member 20/30k. I cant remember clearly, we all were happy. 100k today is equivalent of 20/30k then so what’s the shenanigan. Lagos won’t be the first to do it and certainly won’t be the last

Prof. Soyinka's dream could have been realized if Nigeria was not so corrupt. Only countries with strong institutions, meritocracy and financial accountability can embark on a space program. You can't do nepotism for the human resources it requires.

I respect your take on the Lagos State governor’s flamboyant give away of the people’s money. No governor should be able to do that but they all do it. State fund should not be dished out as the governor wishes. That is the genesis of corruption in Nigeria.

As a student of English Language and someone who read his books & life history... I hate to say it but I have to say it, #am really disappointed at who and what Prof Soyinka has become. It's so sad😢 that a man who has traveled the world could at his old age become a servant sycophant and bigoted tribalistic fueling hatred and division. Thankfully he keeps digging his leg in the mud. He did what he did for Justice and yet expects Nigerians to sit by and clap👏 for injustice, hunger, oppression, corruption, stealing, insecurity, voter suppression, election rigging, etc etc

They will remix history with propaganda and pretend as if nobody in power is capable of making mistakes or doing evil!
