I wish it was a toucH darker. kids from the 80s 90s and even 2000s had “spooky” media that was family friendly but could also feel really dark (the og witches, goosebumps, courage the cowardly dog, coraline) but filmmakers are afraid of making scary things for kids recently. They play it too safe imo. overall i think kids will still like it and the actors look like they’re having a great time i’ll give it a chance...
While I agree with the OP, it's worth bearing in mind the new Sabrina. That's a masterpiece of turning a family friendly kids show of the 90s into something much darker and scarier. Well, scary for children, at least.
If they had kept Anne's dark hair and elegance, I thought she would have been a good successor to Angelica. But I agree, Angelica really was intimidating and this new film won't come close to the original in terms of creepiness.
@@mikeshirleyforever Oh, yes! Every scene with Angelica Huston was flawless and fantastic! The new butchered appearance of the character is ironic since Anne Hathaway has the accurate long, black hair - let alone the beauty.

The "original movie" was the version the author hated because they changed the ending to make it more "family friendly", so if in this version they keep the book ending the same, I'll appreciate it.
@Epicthomas 2000 It follows that you never read the book. It's dark fantasy with horror overtones to scare children. Yeah, same. The original was legitimately scary but still kid-appropriate, an increasingly rare balance. I know people will say kids are too sensitive these days, but I don’t blame the kids. I blame the tight-ass parents who whine on blogs and social media if their kid has so much as one nightmare.
