    For future reference, I think it would be more accurate to say people with vegetarian or vegan lifestyles necessarily need to see a medical/nutrition expert on a regular basis to CHECK if need supplementing, because a diet low on animal products is always low on B12.** I say vegetarians do not need to necessarily supplement because I myself am a vegetarian for little over a year now and my blood work does not suggest I would benefit from supplementing yet, but I might in the future.
    **THAT SAID, most people (53% last time I checked a study) with B12 deficiency, which causes permanent brain damage, are omnivorous... because animal products are not even themselves a 100% reliable source of B12 (also, animals get B12 from supplements and a lot of meat eaters that are against supplements do not know this) and vegans usually care enough about nutrients to supplement, but animal product consumers generally assume they're getting everything they need (because decades of propaganda convinced them meat and eggs and dairy are healthy).
    Also, sometimes people don't need direct supplements because they're having fortified foods (supplements embedded in the things they're already eating, like nutritional yeast or fortified tofu, etc).
    (This is mostly for other people reading to see, as I'm aware you know all of this, Sarah

      iron-peppers As a vegan I drink Silk chocolate almond milk, which has supplements in it. It has B12 (and other stuff) in it, so as long as I drink it each day I feel like I’ve gotten my vitamins.

    • @ElyOakland
      @ElyOakland 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As a vegan it's really unavoidable to supplement b12! And I doubt that drinking almond milk is enough to give your body all the b12 it needs because those products have a very small dose of b12 in them and beyond that, your body does only absorb a small percentage of b12 as a supplement. So it's not very likely to get enough b12 without a high concentrated supplement.
      I'm not trying to call anyone out here, just sharing some important advise! Do your own health a favour and buy some b12 pills pr capsules or another form of supplement if you're vegan! Your body really needs it.
      (That counts of course also for many omnivores and vegetarians, but then it depends)

    • @LucieAnne
      @LucieAnne 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hey just letting you (and others) know that the reason you're blood work hasn't shown anything wrong with your b12 is because your body actually stores it for a very long time, around 5 years apparently. But once you run out of the b12 that your body is storing in your liver you WILL need to supplement if you continue to eat vegetarian/vegan so you might want to just start now and get into the habit :) (and also so you never run the risk of becoming b12 deficient)

    • @heifeifei
      @heifeifei 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      You do not need your blood tested regularly just because you are vegetarian/vegan. If you feel tired more than usual and get sick a lot then go see a doctor. If you feel healthy that’s not necessary :)

    I sometimes watch certain vloggers and think the same things as you but then I remind myself that their "job" is to just film themselves. So of course they have time to go to the gym for 3 hours a day lol because they're literally getting paid to workout. Most of us do not have the luxury to spend 2 hours each day to meal prep and another 2 hours a day just going to overpriced hot yoga classes LOL.
    I work from home but I'm actually working 12 - 14 hours a day and sadly do not have the time to dedicate hours of my day to being fit and healthy. I try to do 15 minutes of yoga in the morning, a 15 minute workout in the middle of the day and I try to eat as healthy as I possibly can with my limited budget and resources.
    If you're really interested in getting healthy and whatnot, try putting aside 20 - 30 minutes a day for working out. I usually do a 15 minutes workout because then I give myself 15 minutes to shower and rest for a few minutes before getting back to work.

    If you live vegetarian or vegan, you don't necessarily need to supplement the whole Vitamin B Complex. You do need to supplement Vitamin B12 specifically though, that is very important and can lead to serious health issues if you don't! :)

    • @johannaweigelt9163
      @johannaweigelt9163 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Maria H one thing to keep in mind is that the b vitamins "build on each other", meaning if u want to properly absorb b 12 u also need the other b vitamins. So supplementing the other b vitamins is also important :)

    • @ElyOakland
      @ElyOakland 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Johanna Weigelt You're right of course but I think what she meant is that for the other vitamins it's possible to get them without supplementing whereas it's not possible to get b12 without supplementing

    I absolutely love this video, it's so realistic. I am definitely not the healthiest but I spend most of my time in the hospital doing long shifts with unnatural lighting, bad sleeping routine, lots of coffee and snacking because it's stressful being a student nurse. A lot of other videos go on about joining the gym and classes and completely changing your diet which I found hard to do. So instead, I've tried walking for at least 15-30 minutes a day, and going outdoors and walking during my lunch break at work, I try and keep a water bottle with me all the time, and I've tried juicing so I have a glass of Apple and lemon and ginger juice a day, and I am slowly trying out new fruits and vegetables. I still eat pot noodles when I don't have time to make proper lunch and drink coffee because I am always so tired. But I've also started napping and it's made a huge difference. A half an hour nap in the evening after a long shifts has been life changing. I try and read a book a month, and I've downloaded the calm app too and attempting breathing techniques for my anxiety. I love this video and wish have seen this earlier. It's very realistic and applicable to me because I simply cannot afford to pay for a gym subscription and don't have the energy or time to go to the gym and my shifts at the hospital start so early and finish so late. I am slowly creating small improvements that have been making a difference

    The exercise thing is very true. If you want ripped muscles and abs and a sculpted body you need to workout a a gym and same goes if you’re trying to lose a tremendous amount of weight...but if you’re already at a healthy size and just looking to maintain BASIC health and fitness and weight...you only need to do like 2 hours of aerobic exercise a week. It can be two intense workouts or an accumulation of light stuff like walking. And it’s good to do a little bit strength (like push ups/lunges etc) for muscles like twice a week and it can be light morning stuff...good for you (no seriously good for you!!) if you want a sculpted body but for the rest of us with an average healthy physique it’s not at all a requirement to do intense workouts ever...
    And it’s all true for food. Eat a basic healthy balanced diet and you don’t need to watch calories or carbs.
    People these days just need to realize it doesn’t have to be either you’re very unhealthy or super fit....you can be in the middle :)

Can you do a video about Violet Harmon and her depression/self harm. I know a lot of people look up to her because she is different and relatable in some ways. I just don't want people to idolize her for her depression/self harm. I think making a video about it would be a good thing to talk about.

    for vegans and vegetarians: PLEASE get your blood drawn and see if u have a vitamin b12 deficiency (if you have one for a long time and it’s a bad one it can actually be life threatening) -- you can also never really have too much b12 like the number is up really high it’s VERY hard to reach the upper end of what’s good to have of b12

    • @nomdeplume2213

      As a vegetarian and especially as a vegan it's unavoidable to supplement b12! Don't wait and do a blood test just to find out that you have a defiency because if you eat vegan for a long time without supplementing you will have one, for sure.
      Also, it's not possible to get too much b12, there's no limit. If you eat/supplement more b12 than you need, your body will simply not use it but it won't have any bad effect on you

    Almost 2 years ago I started looking into veganism. It started as a Pinterest search for recipes for picky toddlers (my daughter was about 2.5yo at the time). I found some vegan recipes and it clicked for me. While I was more concerned about her fruit and vegetable consumption vs meat, vegans have to be creative with their foods and I was hoping that would help us try new things. After that I went down a vegan rabbit hole. Subscribed to many channels and looked at many recipes. Tried out several meals and substitutes. We made several switches (vegan mayo and dairy free milks). I tried Veganuary this year and lasted 16ish days because of a convenient freezer pizza I made my husband. I wasn't prepared for myself.
    A bit over 2 weeks ago I got food poisoning from non vegan food. After a liquid diet for a day, I took that opportunity to go vegan. Been 2 weeks and I've done not too bad. I love it! Now I gotta work on other things.

    I was raised as an only child so I’m very needy and if you can admit that to yourself it’ll make things easier. So, if you’re like me and need a little hand holding for motivation, I suggest going onto Pinterest and creating a fitness board that you fill with 30 day fitness challenges. Start small so that you are continuously working up a ladder and you basically have the perfect guide. I’ve never enjoyed working out but having this little guide just staring at me all the time I feel like I need to complete it. I printed it out and taped it to my mirror.

    As someone who used to be in ROTC it's been hard being active in my adult life. I used to wake up at 0600 to work out and I look back at those days and I feel like that's so crazy. But a good way I have found to be active is to volunteer with the JROTC in my area and make it something that I enjoy and can give back to the community. I agree we need to be active but not beat ourselves and find ways to make it better for us. And to always be kind to yourself. Also a great vegan TH-cam channel is unnatural vegan! Anyways that was a ramble lol love your videos!

    I became vegetarian 5 months ago, and through this, have become INCREDIBLY healthier. Not purely because of vegetarianism, but because of the increased intake of fruits and veggies i receive. Keeping my hydroflask on me AT ALL TIMES has helped me too. I also try to be or sit in the sun for at *least* an hour every day. I also supplement with iron, b12, a multivitamin, and ashwagandha. Something that helped with junk food cravings is finding healthier alternatives to my faves (veggie chips, roasted chickpeas, different nuts).

I don’t think I could cut down to twice a month like you 😂 I just find that my balance with food is what works for me. I’ve trained myself to not binge and just stop eating when I feel full. I drink plenty of water. I get like 9 hours of sleep most nights. I don’t smoke or drink either. This is just what works for me.

    I'm a vegan and my blood test has shown that everything is perfectly fine. Hence why I believe that only one vitamin needs to be supplemented in a vegan diet and that is B12 since the ratio that plants have of it is very small. I supplement B12 by using B12 infused toothpaste which works great for me as my results show.

    i think why it might seem impossible for non-youtubers to make time for healthy habits like sports is that youtubers usually work self-employed from home. I leave the house at 7 in the morning and not return till 6 pm due to working fulltime and commuting. I'm not saying youtubers work less, but they are more flexible and just being able to use the time you'd spend on a commute for something healthy makes a big difference

I really want to be one of those people who walk 10,000 steps a day but even constantly walking upstairs and moving about i'm only able to hit 6,000 steps in my days. 😂😂😂

    Historian A. Roger Ekirch's book At Day's Close: Night in Times Past describes how households at this time retired a couple of hours after dusk, woke a few hours later for one to two hours, and then had a second sleep until dawn. During this waking period, people would relax, ponder their dreams, or have sex. Some would engage in activities like sewing, chopping wood, or reading, relying on the light of the moon or oil lamps

    So I just discovered that there's a bunch of apps that help with mental health and I wish someone had shared this with me sooner. I just downloaded them last night and I'm going to be trying them out. I just wanted to share incase anyone else needs some support.🤝

      @SeraphIsEpic 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ossswin the 2 I am using right now is moodpath which tracks my moods and I think it would be very helpful to show my therapist and the other is innerhour which I haven't got to the goals yet but I did some guided breathing with it. There are others like a bot you can talk to like a therapist and one that gives you journal prompts.

      Sarah Hawkinson I wish I could go to bed that early! I have the hardest time getting to bed at a decent hour. It seems like there’s always one more thing that I need to do before bed. lol plus I feel like I’m wasting time sleeping and I could be doing other things.

      Krissy Ruseva it’s not if you work at home. That’s about about average for nurses and people who work in the medical field because we do a lot of walking but a lot of people have desk jobs so I don’t really think 10,000 is average.

      aiwxo I take 15 min breaks during work and go outside and walk around the building. Once in the morning, one after lunch, and once in the afternoon. It’s so much easier to take little breaks at work than doing it before or after.

    Yo I'm a non--preachy vegan. Not all vegans are preachy. I hate that stereotype. I actively disprove that stereotype everyday. I discuss it if asked. But I never preach. I'm just a person who happens to be vegan and don't feel the need to shove it down people's throats. I believe normalising vegan is the best way I can personally "promote" veganism. I love all your videos. Just wanted to say this cos this stereotype sucks for me.

I like to do exercises with strength and cardio in one, as mountaibiking for at least an hour a day or swimming lapse for two hour straight, because I am an insomniac and need cardio. And for younger viewers. Just do not start with coffee. Never liked it. If you don't try it, because you really do not need it.

    • @miriam7872
      @miriam7872 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Same, actually! The increased heartbeat sometimes makes my brain think I'm dying and I also get pretty restless with a second cup.
      I actually had to quit drinking coffee fairly recently (cold turkey) because I started taking stimulants - and in my case, those two don't go together at all. Tried it twice, both times I got a mild panic attack and had pretty bad anxiety all day
