  • Fiskars Norden N10 bushcraft axe field test. Good afternoon my spectacular ladies and gents I hope you are all well. Today you join me in the woods to look ate and test my new bushcraft axe hatchet from Fiskars of Finland. I recently acquired the N10 chopping axe when I was looking for a more budget friendly axe / hatchet for my kit. The N10 chopping axe features a glass fibre composit construction making the axe almost indestructible. The beautiful hickory handle shouts premium, but the price is kind on the pocket. #bushcraftaxe #survivalaxe #fiskarsn10
    Apologies folk the overall length of the axe/hatchet is 47.9cm I wasn't able to locate the data at time of recording.
    gear used in the video.
    fjallraven tarmac wool shirt.
    fjallraven vidda pro trousers.
    fallkniven s1xb bushcraft knife.
    DD 3x3 ultralight tarp.
    Savotta 393 saddle sack rucksack.
    Meindl douvre extreme boots.

    Braw axe. I'd be in tears, though, if that was my glove! Although my pals and I grew up in a small town, we were surrounded by large woods, streams, and gullies. Blessed with this as our playground, we were never home. None of us had axes, but we had "borrowed" saws from our sheds and made "dens" like your lean to. They were everywhere. Depending upon where in the woods you went, you'd find other lads' dens. It's a good thing we never got our hands on axes back then as things could get quite "tribal".

      Liam my top man. It takes me back too! I loved den building when I was younger. We were never lucky enough to have saws or axes though! We used to play escape and capture and when you caught someone you would keep them in your den or literally hours on end against their will! Looking that was kid nap! Oh bugger! 😂

    Oh nO! And we were just talking about how much you liked those gloves! Bugger indeed. Fiskars axes are very good for the money and certainly look stylish. I'm having fun at the mo. trying a one-tool option with my Condor Cambodian small machete (which I can thoroughly recommend - sharp as a sharp thing). Also FYI I bought one of those mini cordless chainsaws, excellent for larger stuff although it did get hung up a couple of times, and not much good for small branches as it tends to tear the wood at the exit point. Take care, Eddie.

      Very nice! It's good to challenge yourself every now and then isn't it. I'll be honest that's one tool I don't have in my kit! A machete or a parang. Condor do make good knives at decent prices versus quality so in guessing the machete is no different. Is it high carbon steel? The gloves are fine now, I have repaired them and you would hardly notice the cut, it just looks like part of the glove now. Thanks for dropping in Edwin m8 always a damn pleasure! Take care.

      The machete is 1075 with a micarta slab handle, very comfy and easy to keep sharp. I've been using it with a work party on the nearby Common, which hasn't been touched since about WW2 or something. Very useful for firewood, some really beautiful old Oaks, loads of wildlife. I keep finding steel corkscrew picket fence stakes so there was probly a gun emplacement or similar.@@BushcraftWithSteOutdoors

    That’s a lovely axe mate!!! I have the Fiskars X17 Splitting Axe with the wedge built into the head and it works beautifully for processing larger pieces of wood into kindling. It’s incredibly sharp as well and that must’ve been a little heartbreaking to put a slice in your brand new gloves 😔.

      Hey Dad 😁 😂 yeah I think I have seen that. Is that the one wranglerstar wife knocked her teeth out with!? Needless to say he isn't a fan of them anymore! The steel is capable of an incredibly sharp edge, not great at retaining it for any length of time though unfortunately. Easy to put back on though. The gloves have been christened now, so I'm not prissy about them 😂 they have repaired quite well. Thanks for dropping in buddy. Take it easy.

    Convex the edge to avoid rolling. The N10 is like the N7, X7 and other hatchets from Fiskars meant for splitting - therefore the heavier head and the head geometry. Don´t get me wrong . I have a N7 - nice little splitter. To make the N10 work in other fields (more or less proper) you need to make the scandi grind steeper. - what you did but now your edge is rolling.

    • @BushcraftWithSteOutdoors
      @BushcraftWithSteOutdoors  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey there thanks for stopping by. To be fair I only removed the coating from the bit, I haven't modified the grind in anyway. I suppose a scandivex profile would eliminate rolling of the edge, but it's not a massive issue for me as I always have the gear on me or in my kit to put the edge right. It's a nice functional axe at the right price so a bit of maintenance every now and then I'll take on the chin 😂 Thanks for the comment. Take it easy.
