Be sure to thumbs up if you enjoyed the video, it helps the channel grow! It's hard to make a pattern for something waterformed, so if you guys are interested in this pattern, download knowing it's more of a "guideline" with some art. Hopefully you enjoy this video, managed to get another video out on Tuesday but missed my self imposed deadline by 2.5hrs. I'll be running more polls in the future on what video to do next, so make sure you have Notifications turned ON so you can participate in them whenever they come up. Any ideas for my next video? Let's hear em!
Loved this video, and I am very strongly enjoying your storytelling series - you're an excellent storyteller, and watching you leatherwork at the same time is equally amazing. If I might suggest... I loved the little viking belt-bag you made - I would love to see a sized-up version for a purse (kinda like a possibles bag, maybe). Keep up the great work!
Just a quick tip. You can use your printer to copy your art on to clear transparency plastic copy paper. Saves you having to copy your original design twice and its clear so you can see what's going on under the plastic when your drawing onto your leather. You can use them accouple times or reprint your original art.
my grandfather used to own and run a leather shop . i wanted to learn from him but sadly he got sick before i got the chance and he passed a few months ago . but recently ive wanted to jump into leather work more and more
I've used cardboard&papper for wet molds; tape a couple slices of stiff togheter, compress, cut to object dimenions, tape again; worked great if you don't have woodworking appliances. Fast and easy.
Very nice! I’m new to leather work… I’m fairly artsy fartsy so, thought i would give this craft a try… I make lots of stuff with Paracord and other cord types as well… I have a few pieces of leather i found in an old storage box … they are in remarkably good shape so I thought I would try to make a phone case for my iPhone 12 max… I made a couple of bracelets with some of the leather that turned out decent… but I really need a phone case…so, off to TH-cam i went to check out some vids…. Like yours quite a bit! Thanks for sharing your craft with the world! God bless you!
Another good way to form leather is instead of using nails you could make a “U” out of wood that fits around the form and the leather and clamp it down
I am thoroughly impressed with your videos! Not only are they inspirational, but encouraging and informative! I’m very excited and I have a class of students who are really enjoying leather craft working and being creative!!! Thanks for your videos!
@1:03 As an alternative to a wood form trace the phone shape onto corrugated cardboard then cut out several stack them and glue them together..it depends on the thickness of the cardboard and how thick the phone is for how many to stack together for me it was 5 layers of cardboard I put modpodge glue over the entire thing because it seals it but I also glued vinyl to both sides waterproof it so I could use the mold again..this works well to mold pockets for leather bags as long as you stack enough layers of elmers glue and cardboard for the right thickness... for those who are not able to cut wood for whatever reason Great tutorial ! I learned so much!Thank you!!!
That's a great idea. I have no woodworking kit to make forms so I used the silicon cover for my phone, stuffed it with trimmed bits of polystyrene from some packing, then moulded around that.
I love these. I ran across a video of yours a few months back. Then I bought some leather rest is history man. Thank you for the inspiration Your an awesome artist but ill bet you hear that a lot. ✌
Thankyou for sharing. Is there a reason you use a lacing punch (round holes) instead of using a stitching punch/pricking iron (diamond holes) for your stitching? I believe the pricking iron would give you a much more even finish on your stitches. Once again thanks for the vid.
Nice vid. Another great way to get a perfect mould, is to cut a second piece of wood in a U shape, where the inner part of the U is slightly larger (the width of the teather). Place the wet leather over the main phone form, then press the U mould over the main form, compressing the leather around the edge. It makes a perfect shape with minimal fuss (no nails needed). Love your work! Some great art.
A suggestion. Use tokonole and glass the back of the leather to make it smooth. I didn't think of that before I made my phone case, but you can be sure that I'll do it from now on! Thanks for the great video!
That's very similar to the design I used for my cell phone case. I wet formed to my phone in a lifeproof case wrapped in plastic wrap with a piece of 7-8 oz leather under it for extra thickness. Although I used a 24 snap coverd with a wide Concho for the flap as well as two metal belt clips. I also used another piece of leather for the backing so the phone isn't rubbing the flesh of the leather all the time. Also I carry it horizontal instead of vertical.
So I just learned some craft and made sheath for knife axe leather man and a haversack from another channel. And now I see you, I guess you’ll be my new teacher cause I’m artistic also and love all that Viking thing u got going on. Anyways liked and subbed thanx for the next step.
WOW cool thank you! I'm trying this tomorrow for sure. One thing I do after knotting off on the inside is burn the ends with a lighter and knife it in the crack
I make it the same way,but cut out of wood also a frame to press over the wooden Tel with enough space to press the leather down.Clamp it together and let it dry... Also I do not use water to soak the leather, but Aceton,it dries so much faster, you can keep working on it and do not have to wait so long for the leather to dry.Thank you for showing from Algarveknives,Portugal❤
It would take time but you could use chipboard like from cerial boxes n stack n glue until correct depth cover in plastic rap. That way your phone is not in danger of being damaged.
A note on wet forming around your iPhone. The various manufacturing companies have a small piece of material that acts as a wick for water. It discolors the more moisture it comes in contact with over time. When they open your phone at the iPhone store to discover the reason your phone is not working and the wick material has turned red, the warranty is void and the repair cost is out of your pocket.
Dark Horse thanks for the great video. I checked you Amazon store but I could not find the hole punch you used on your stitching line. Can you please share that info. Thanks again.
Thank you so much for your time and your work is very beautiful and very unique and I like it I love it but can you do a case for double phones in one case
You need to explain all these little pro tips! Shaking leather and making it wet, instantly transferring art to your work pieces, these techniques are invaluable and yet you wont share hiw to do it!
What if I want to do a basket weave on the front part under the flap? When wold you do the carving for that? I would assume after molding so you don't have to worry about anything aligning but then how would you do the carving?
I haven't even watched this video, but have subbed, bellied and have beard envy. Curse your slick marketing and ancient skillet, and may your god or gods bless your sails with favourable winds and calm waters. Thank you. 🙏🏼
i'm Researching making a Leather Harness / Vest not real sure what to call it , the straps on a gun shoulder holster , but when i search Shoulder Holster i don't get the results i intended..... anyway hope you get what i'm talking about so i have figured out how to do the straps but i want pockets not guns... so my question is would cases or pockets like this, i'd alter the design i assume but as far as how this is attached to the belt , do you think that would transfer or translate? to the Harness ?
I use various clamps when I wet form, have to place a piece of leather broader than the vise so it doesn’t make and indentation on the piece being molded.
I just found your channel a month ago. I just made the the phone case. The way you explained it made it straight forward for me. Thanks for the vedio. I have one question about coloring the leather. I have a limited budget, I used shoe polish on the leather. What is your take on it. Once again thanks and you do great work
I wouldn't use shoe polish, depends on the color you're going for. Small bottles of dye are fairly inexpensive. But also I don't even know how shoe polish would end up honestly.
Love your work, not very good on a leather swevel so I've started using my tattoo gun with a sewing needle on the rod ... Guns on full speed and depth set .... 🍻
Yes I find that it gives a shiny finish when I prefer a matte also. The more people I ask it seems like the answer is you can never get a complete seal. Thanks, and again love your work.
Loved it! Both, the product and the quality of the tutorial. Thank you. I'm not an expert but it seems to me that you still have to improve your embossing. Or, in the video, it is not possible to capture the quality of the carving. Not sure.

Dark Horse Workshop maybe a helmet?
Celtic style key / change pouch. With reinforced keyring strap. Single layer straps made of leather or canvas always tear.
will not you mind when I learn from you? in time I would like to make similar videos you know :), srry my english is bad

Oh damn, that shake the leather to create water technique is really useful! Never thought of it before, cheers!
I've got a few tricks like this up my sleeve.
I enjoy seeing the details of your craftsmanship. thanks for sharing your experience and knowledge with us!
Your craftsmanship is absolutely amazing to watch!

Nothing makes my day awesome quite like seeing a new video is up 😁 I love watching all your awesome designs come together

Well need to say this. I love hearing your voice.. not in a weird way do. Its so calming. ♡

Très joli travail, j'adore.
You do some amazing work brother
Would love to see some raven designs, or some runes. Love the work.
On it.
I second this comment
What is the diameter of your hole punch? What weight of leather is best for wet forming. I enjoyed the video. Thanks
I make it the same way,but cut out of wood also a frame to press over the wooden Tel with enough space to press the leather down.Clamp it together and let it dry... love your videos cant wait till i can afford to get some of the tools and start leather working myself
Wow a masterpiece outstanding craftsmanship thanks
It would take time but you could use chipboard like from cerial boxes n stack n glue until correct depth cover in plastic rap. That way your phone is not in danger of being damaged.
Where did you get the beveling tip? The resist is that supposed to go on before the color? Thanks for the tips.

You are so talented. I love your serpent design.
Dark Horse thanks for the great video. I checked you Amazon store but I could not find the hole punch you used on your stitching line. Can you please share that info. Thanks again.
If it was the 4 in 1 punch, then look that up if you want to do it. Tandy 4 in 1 punch. I don't use it anymore.
Mate you are a master beautiful phone case ...
Hi from Australia. Thanks for sharing. You’re a true genius
Love your video brother I’m planning to make like that someday for side project
Well skilled...lotta work dedicated to it.
This was wonderful...I enjoy ur free hand drawings. Such talent!
That,s great stuff. I make molds for just about everything.👌
Hi, awesome work, what is the name of the plastic sheet that you use to transfer your artwork? Thanks
Awesome work, love it. I think your channel is going to be my 'go to' for all things leather. Liked & subbed!
Beautiful work Richard!
Thank you so much for your time and your work is very beautiful and very unique and I like it I love it but can you do a case for double phones in one case
what skin coloring products do you use here? I recently bought a leather and it is the size of my mobile phone, so I will make a case
Very beautiful project and very helpful video. Thank you.
Very nice work!
Love your art. Great video. I love serpents and dragons.
You make it look so easy. I know the truth, lol. Beautiful. Good health and stay safe.
I have a question about the dye how longs does it take for the dye to stop rubbing off of the leather after you apply it
ciao ...sei bravissimo complimenti....potrei chiederti che prodotto metti con l aerografo?grazie
Where do you botty your leather? What is the weight of your leather?
You need to explain all these little pro tips! Shaking leather and making it wet, instantly transferring art to your work pieces, these techniques are invaluable and yet you wont share hiw to do it!
Can you waterform chrome tanned leather?
Amazing!!
Thank you for sharing.
For sure my thumbs up! 👍👌
Very cool design and the process is awesome, thanks for posting this!
Omg that's awesome now I want to make one. I draw and paint all kind of artwork that includes Celtic artwork.
Great work on that man
Mr Viking from last life your work is exelentisimo ,i learn a lot from U thanks for the good Viking Teaching .From Leonel from Florida
What if I want to do a basket weave on the front part under the flap? When wold you do the carving for that? I would assume after molding so you don't have to worry about anything aligning but then how would you do the carving?
I'd end up just doing the face of it, and have something to use as a firm block underneath it cut to size. That's a tough one.
I’ve been shaking the first leather piece for weeks now and it’s still really dry. Is there a technique I should be using?
I haven't even watched this video, but have subbed, bellied and have beard envy.

short, sweet and useful 👍 haha "before you panic"
Great work
Can you please tell me what weight the leather is, thanks
You didn’t include the spray gun in your equipment list. Where can I get the spray gun you are using?
I get mine from local tools stores. Paint / spray guns
dude just want to say youre an awesome lathercrafter and an amazing artist. def making me want to do some projects
instead of making holes in the leather with nails why not use $1 clamps from harbor freight?
I use various clamps when I wet form, have to place a piece of leather broader than the vise so it doesn’t make and indentation on the piece being molded.
Wow awesome
Fantastic work, thanks for sharing
Great video! You really show an easier way of doing things to make it look cool. Thanks for sharing this.

That would be good for those with "flip phones" or whatever they are called, I'll find a friend that wants one.
Love your work. Can you share the name of the finish you use to stop any run off dye? I have issues with that on some of my work. Thank you.
Acrylic finish works a bit better than leather balm. The better the finish the glossier it gets is my problem. I like things fairly matte.
Yes I find that it gives a shiny finish when I prefer a matte also. The more people I ask it seems like the answer is you can never get a complete seal. Thanks, and again love your work.
That's great Magnus! Keep up the awesome videos, and congrats on 50,000 subscribers!

Looks great. Any reason you dont use diamond chisels?
Just never owned any. I have 2 sewing machines so the only reason I'm even hand stitching is so people can follow along easily.
