Exactly! Thank you for a sane response. At the very least, the guy could've first just replaced the fuse w/ the same. Then, if that blew in less than a few days, maybe go up to a 7.5 or 10 amp fuse. But no fuse at all, surely couldn't burn down his wooden shed w lots of batteries, right?

Just replace to fuse, chargers can fail. Fuse can protect it from short circuit. The fuse amp should be slightly higher than the charge amps. In case of over charging or short circuit your battery can and will burst into flames and put your home in danger of burning down. So I would not bypass any fuse.

You definitely need the fuse. If the charger really protects from over voltage then the fuse wouldn't have broken to begin with. The fuse is there to protect the battery and you removed that protection. Good luck.

a $3 fuse isn't worth the fire that it can and will cause. If you think it can be removed without issue- it shows you truly don't understand the purpose of this fuse. It's not a game....it will burn down whatever the scooter is in with a flare-like fire. Think of your family and neighbors before introducing a wild fire hazard this way.

Hello need some advice. I had a little shopper mobility scooter and maintained it myself for three years. I have just finished paying off a greenpower scooter. Since day one I had problems it looked lovely but a few screws were rusty. ;Anyhow within a few months it wouldn't charge. The charger was on green and it was empty. I had in total five men out to fix it. Nope they made it worse. I eventually got four new batteries out of them but that wasn't the answer anyway. They tried to palm me off with allsorts of reasons. However after the new batteries and a new charger port in the scooter it worked for a while now its doing the green light thing again. However if I can get the horn to work and the front light I can charge it get the charger to go red while it does. By the way I bought a spare one they were shocked I knew what charger to get. So the indicator had a little switch which basically boinged off so they donrt work now. THe seat is loose so many faullts. However it needs to work . Any ideas why the horn won't work and the front light then when I eventually get the horn to beep I can charge it then.

    Where is the fuse located

  • @Dajlec
    @Dajlec 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

My zero 8 came with a 50.4V charger which is able to charge the 48V battery to a maximum of around 74%.
Why? Answer: note that the maximum (100%) charging capacity of 48V battery is not 48V but 56.4V. To charge your 48V battery to 100%/56.4V you would need a stronger charger (e.g. 60V).
Providing a weaker charger is a smart trick some manufacturers use in order to prevent their buyers from overcharging the battery (keeping your battery charged above 30% and below 80% will triple the battery lifetime).
The light on the charger will turn green once the current stops flowing, in other words, there is no more difference in the potential between the charger output and the battery. This only means that the battery charged to the maximum capacity of what a CHARGER can provide and this is not necessarily the max capacity of the battery itself.
So if you see a green light on the charger, indicating that the charging is finished, but your scooter only shows 4 out of 5 bars, check your charger's power and the voltage reading of your scooter. They should be similar (e.g. for 50.4V charger your 48V scooter should read 50.1 or 50.2V when charged to the max).
Search the internet for "Battery pack voltage comparison charge".

What others said, please use the fuse!!
Also - I get nervous seeing you tighten the screws back in with electric screwdriver. It is very infrequent you will need to retighten the 10 screws, but depending on a power drill can damage them very quickly. Would say use a handheld screwdriver to avoid threading screws.

    • @jaycarl1562
      @jaycarl1562 2 ปีที่แล้ว

The fuse is a feature, not a bug. Most scooters don't have a charging fuse (at least not one that is in any way accessible). I've seen plenty of batteries that happily turn on the scooter and run the motor but don't take a charge. There is no recourse except replacing the battery or having a battery repair specialist take a look.

Hello. I need help. I have a zero 9 scooter that won't take a charge. My scooter sat for awhile without use and the battery dropped to 21.6V, I removed it and had it checked out and the technician was able to charge it up to 51V. I took it for a ride and when I tried to charge it the charger stayed green. The battery is reading at 46.3V currently and the screen shows the battery is halfway. I tested the charger itself and is pushing out 54.6V which tells me the charger is fine. When I plug the charger to the scooter it turns green showing me that the battery is powering the charger, then when I plug it into the wall outlet it just stays green when it should be red. I tried your video and opened up the scooter again to try and find the fuse, but I don't see one. I've tried to research it and can't seem to find any information on whether or not this Zero 9 has a fuse. Please kindly provide some insights below to help determine the problem and how to fix it. Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you!
    1. Do you know if my scooter has a fuse?
    2. If so where is it located?
    3. Is there a reset button to reboot the scooter?
    4. What could be the issue it won't take charge when I witnessed it first hand take on a charge when the technician attached his battery charger to increase the BMS to 51V?

Just got a new one, it was fully charged. Then i changed the volts, from 36 to 60 on a 400w battery. Not even sure that was supposed to be possible. But now it's on the first bar, and doesn't charge any further.
    Can you help?

There is a reason there is a fuse there mate. Have you seen a lithium battery fire? Have you seen the reasons other electrical devices explode or burn out? Id charge that outside from now on, away from the house.

I bought an AOVOPRO ES80 a few days ago and it arrived in the post yesterday, it’s not turning on even though I’ve plugged it in, I press the power button but nothing turns on however the rear brake light just flashes once very lightly. Do you have any ideas on what I could do to try and get it to run? Thanks

Hello mate, i have a mantis 10 with the eye3 display. The charging light goes red and then green like i have a full charge. But when i turn it on the display flashes as it goes from max voltage to near 0 and then all turns off. It takes 2 seconds to happen and then i cant turn it on again for another 10 minutes as nothing happens when pushing power button, and it does the same thing. From 67.5 volts near nothing eveerytime, any ideas on what the issue could be would be greatly appreciated mate.??

Hi Mark, good videos. I've repaired my won't Skywalker 10h lots of times, but the last problem I've had no luck. The battery charges, I turn on and the volt meter counts down very quickly from 54 to fade out at around 30. If I plug into the charger, the scooter can power up, but remove the charger and it counts down again. There is a key switch.
It's also been sporadic, sometimes good and without moving it the problem returns. I pulled the wires out and checked the battery leads.... But as I said the scooter powers up if plugged into the charger.
I'm thinking it's the battery management system that will be in the battery, or a faulty cell maybe. Just wandered if you'd heard of a fix.

I had a electric scooter with a 36v battery start doing this the other day. It randomly shut off during a ride and wouldn't come back on or charge. I tried the charger on another scooter and it worked fine so I assumed it was the battery.
Took the battery out measured the voltage and it read around 13v. Dead.
I install a new battery and the scooter still wouldn't turn on or charge. I pull the battery back out check the voltage and surprise it's at 8.8v. Also dead.
What killed these batteries like that? When I installed the new battery it was fully charged and now it's just dead. I took the scooter apart to see if I could find a short or cause but I couldn't find anything. No sparking when I connected the battery no burnt wires or burning smell. No visual signs of overheating on the controller and no blown fuses. Didnt even make any noises like popping or buzzing that usually indicates something is wrong.
Is there something I'm possibly missing and is there a way to save these batteries? It's kind of frustrating considering not only is the scooter still down but a fresh battery pack is also no longer working so it's just money wasted at this point without knowing a reason why.
Is it possible a short is somewhere that isnt going to show it's self but will still fry the battery like that? I didn't even have the new battery installed for more than a few minutes and it went from around 42v to 8v. That much of a discharge with no visual signs or sounds just doesn't seem right. That's a lot of power to just disappear.

Your controller is shorted and both batteries are probably fine. There's a very high chance you'll find that your motor wheel is stiff to turn. Do you have a multimeter? Unplug the three motor phase wires and check for continuity between any two of the three coming from the controller. Most likely a mosfet has shorted and needs to be replaced, causing the controller's power input to become shorted. The BMS sees this and shuts down. With your multimeter, you can compare the resistance of the two probes touching each other to the resistance at the positive and negative input terminals of the controller. If the reading is very similar (close to 0.000), then that is another confirmation.
Plug the charger into the batteries without hooking the battery power output up to anything and they should immediately recover.

I have lost my original charger, I looked at the manual and bought a 24v 0.5a one and it did not work, I did not charge. Some electronic technicians tell me that I use a 27.6v charger, another tells me 28.4v, I'm really confused and I don't know which charger to choose. Could you tell me what voltage I use to charge my scooter? Thank you PS: battery is acid lead 24v

This is just what im looking for because almost every video out there try to tell us just to reconect the contacts from display or battery. Thats just pure luck if that even fix the problem lol. I have an E-way 500 that have exactly the same problem with the green charger. And its a brand new original charger i bought so Im pretty sure its working proper. So Im gonna open mine up and see if I have the same red cable with a fuse. If I do I will follow this concept and hope for the best.

Never by pass a fuse !! These lithium ion cells are super sensitive & some have internal safety PCBS & some don’t as well fyi ! I had 1 18650 on an older charger that cell went off like a shot gun blast and would have burnt my place down , or injured my pets or a person thank god I was home , another tip unplug all chargers and battery’s when leaving home in some cases certain ones out of your vehicle as well !! Better safe then sorry :)

I fully charged up my hiboy titan pro last week sometime. Or so I thought. 4 bars went down to 3 rather quick I noticed last Friday my last ride. I plugged it in that night & I didn't notice the fan didn't start running after the metals connected as it normally does. I finally found out tonight my scooter doesn't charge anymore. What to do?
