      Was that a 102, because it travelled via Brenzett and not Camber? Looks like it could have been diverted to avoid the gridlock at Camber Sands.( traffic tailing all the way back to Rye)

    What a trip! I really like Folkstone, and I could easily see myself living in the Folkstone-Dymchurch area. Since I was a small boy, I've holidayed in this kind of landscape and I loved every minute of it and just wanted to stay there forever.
    These coastal bus trips are just the best!

    From a huge fan of your work from the suburbs of Philadelphia, USA. I have always dreamed of a magical journey around England and at 71 however in great shape physically, the odds of a Trans-Atlantic vacation post-COVID are looking more dim. However, your videos are done so beautifully and professionally I feel like I am truly on the bus at my 56 inch LED PC monitor. Thank you so much for all you do and I am still hoping that Britannia is still on my bucket list!!!

    Back in the 80s, I worked out of Hastings & District's Rye Depot (now long gone) and drove this route often. I loved it and watching this brought back some great memories. I'm glad I found this post. In case anyone is wondering what was going on with all the congestion approaching Rye, this is a common occurrence in the summer caused by the vast numbers of day-trippers trying to get to Camber Sands. It can play the very devil with bus timetables.

    Brings back memories of when I worked on the Dover Folkstone clean beach scheme, the treatment plant was built at Capel and tunnels and trenches were dug from Dover and Folkstone. that took foul water to Capel where it was cleaned and then the clean discharge went trough a turbine that generated the power needed to pump the raw water uphill. Mains power was only needed to start the system running.
    I drove those roads daily inspecting each site, great views across the channel, there was a bakery on the left before reaching Capel that did great buns etc. Often had a pit stop there.
    Sat here in Vietnam you have brought it all back, THANKS

They called it the WAVE... However these days the renumbered 102 now terminates at Rye so if you wish to travel on down the coast you catch either the 100 or 101 Via Icklesham or Fairlight... Maximum distance covered from the start point is 56 KM... Bloody EU rules...

It was interesting seeing what's new & what's exactly the same after all these years.

      East Kent buses takes me back to my childhood - plum red and dark cream buses so distinctive. A lot has changed down here Sandgate is a very sort after place now and quite posh but I like it.

    • @davidcollins9512
      @davidcollins9512 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jasonsmart3482 It was always reassuring seeing that red and cream colour on the double-deckers coming along the Esplanade - especially in the stormy winter months when the sea would splash onto the road - often the road would be closed and the busses would divert up Hospital Hill, through Shorncliffe Camp (you could still drive through the camp in the '60's), then down Military Road to the top of Sandgate. Living in the middle we could only guess if the road was closed or not & often only the bus was on the road with little traffic around. If the road was closed we'd have to walk along the storm path (Brewers Hill - West Lawn Gardens/Prospect Rd - Encombe -Hillside - Wilberforce Rd) a walk with a lot of muddy paths and bushes dripping cold water down your necks - so seeing the bus in the distance was always reassuring (if really wet and stormy I'd often wait in the phone box at the bottom of Brewers Hill)

    • @susi-emily
      @susi-emily 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@davidcollins9512 Thanks to the sea defences (building up of shingle by huge earth mover vehicles) that have been put in along the beach at Sandgate, the sea doesn't break over the road anymore. You'll no doubt remember that the Fishermen's Cottages that back onto the promenade through to Folkestone regularly flooded. But that's all stopped and the remains of Sandgate Castle is no longer in threat from the sea. Shorncliffe Camp is mostly gone now, replaced by horrible housing estates. I grew up on Royal Military Avenue (the road opposite the Garrison Church - now the Tower Theatre) in the 70s and 80s, and the Camp was our playground. It's all changed up there.

      It was changed a couple of years ago to two way, along with Tram Road, and totally against the wishes of the residents. But Tontine is only two way for buses and taxis. Private vehicles can only drive up the road, not down. Tram Road is now two way for all, and there's been numerous accidents.

    I actually did this route on the 9th of June from Hastings to Dover, and it was a long old route. I did see one or two comments under this video complaining about the sound of the aircon, and tbh, it is needed on a hot and sunny day though I felt it wasn't strong enough. I will be doing the route again in the coming week as I didn't get to finish filming Dover for my own channel as the last bus to Hastings is like 17.21.

    Know this route well in fact at 13.24 the bus goes past the end of my road on the left. On the few occassions I get the bus its either just to Dover or Folkestone Rye at the end of the route is very historic picturesque town well worth a visit - as is Folkestone which has improved so much,

    Last time I actually travelled on the route Volvo Olympians were running on it. Think it was 2000 or 2001. I hope to be doing the route, though not in one go, next year.

    Must be wonderful to ride in those double-decker buses they are never seen in Australia only single decks here although we do have a bendy bus that is articulated in the middle how difficult it must have been for bus drivers before the advent of power steering and auto gearboxes still buses running on and built for the horse and cart take a lot of skill.

    It would be helpful for viewers who don’t know the part of the country the bus is passing if the name of the places could appear on the screen. Thank you.

      The map at the start gives the route and you can read the road signs.

    Greetings from Tucson Arizona USA. This is the second video I've watched, and I have to admit that I've had to resort to on-line study of UK road symbols and signage because it's a dizzying array that's unfamiliar to me. I am fascinated tho by the Brits' love for "roundabouts", which are rare here in USA.

    Must be wonderful to ride on the upper deck of those double-decker buses they are never seen in Australia only single decks here although we do have a bendy bus that is articulated in the middle how difficult it must have been for bus drivers before the advent of power steering and auto gearboxes still buses running on roads built for the horse and cart take a lot of skill to drive let alone dealing with all the other traffic

    How did you record? Was the bus roof free on upper deck? Amazing! :D

    The bus was so quiet. Hardly a sound from the motor. Was it an electric vehichle?

      Not quite sure, to be honest. But I do know that Stagecoach invested in hybrid buses. The front window of the bus usually has a sign indicating whether it is an electric or hybrid vehicle, but not this one.

      Thx, W. I really like your vids of England. I’m from the other side of the pond and have never been to UK. But I feel like I have been getting a ringside seat to the best tour o could ever have had.

    When we come out of the tunnel, we just turn right right and have a hotel just about 29:49.. It's so different world from the other side. Thx!

    Is this bus lowering when it stops and the raising when gets ready to proceed?!
