there’s a way to completely get rid of TH-cam shorts. If you click on the little three dots in the top right corner of a TH-cam short and click not interested, it goes away. Do this for every single TH-cam short you see. No exceptions. Eventually TH-cam will stop recommending them. I haven’t watched a TH-cam short in months now and I’m never going back. Honestly I forgot they existed until this video brought them up again
What I hate is how all short form videos seem to have automatically been retroactively converted into shorts. I can't watch an old meme video or vine that existed before shorts were a thing without being teleported into shorts.

Moral of the story: TH-cam shouln't be trying to be TikTok. I've often stated that TikTok is damaging society by pushing the worst kinds of content out to people and overall shortening our attention spans to that of goldfish; but for some reason people still eat it up. TH-cam was made to be optimized for long-form video content; with its algorithim rewarding videos that get people to stick around from start to finish. And, as awful as TikTok is; it's optimized for endlessly mindlessly scrolling through short, vapid, empty content. There is no middle ground between the two platforms.

In my experience (even without YT Shorts), I've found that I tend to mindlessly scroll through tons of content even within TH-cam's long-form videos. I think that the issues with short-form videos were a long time coming (as people have said the same kinds of criticisms about other social medias in the past, including regular TH-cam), it's just that it took entering the 2010s/2020s before people changed the narrative from TV rotting our brains, to social media in general doing it instead.
I wish they had an option to turn off the lil short cut to them that appears after the first 2 or 3 recommended videos. I hate getting sucked in when I see a new dino bunny upload and accidentally end up going down a rabbit hole
In my opinion, TH-cam shorts is in the "gold rush" phase. We see this anytime a social technology becomes popular; people rush in to make bank and then regulations catch up.
Honestly, I've come across some really good shorts. A channel named Eevee and Yoshi has a lot of good shorts about these two ragdoll cats, and it's a good mood booster. However, I have occasionally come across bad, low-effort or just plain bizarre (and not in a good way) shorts you described as well.

I'm honestly not aware of how TH-cam shorts function, but thanks to your informative video, I finally realized that making a short video is not always a good idea. Mainly because the function and algorithm is similar to TikTok, in terms of using other user's content for clout. I used to make short videos until I completely ran out of ideas, because most of the ideas I've been wanting try to create, were already done by hundreds of users. I think I have a theory behind why Amy is seen as Sonic's child but also has a close relationship with him, along with the fact she's in a wheelchair in these shorts. In these shorts, we are in a different universe, in this case, Amy is Sonic's child, later on we can see she is both pregnant, and judging by the fact she is also in a wheelchair, possibly disabled as well (I'll get into that in a second). Now I know what you're thinking "Wait, Sonic did *that* with his own daughter??" Well actually, if we consider there are others in this universe, I'm going to say that Sonic is not the father of Amy's daughter, but someone else is (I don't have any theories on who is though), now for the wheelchair part, I'm guessing that she may have gone through something causing her to be disabled, judging by the fact Sonic is seen pushing Amy into the water multiple times, I suspect Sonic possibly threw her into a sea of sharks causing her to have gotten mistaken for shark food, which in turns caused her permanent leg injury. But that's just a theory, a youtube shorts theory.
TH-cam shorts community is horrible. I compared reddit to TH-cam shorts, and reddit seems to be much more kinder than those toxic masculinity edits comments sections.

You know, as a small time video maker on YT, I feel the same way. I've always found majority of the shorts abhorrent in the same way an old conservative white supremacist feels towards "diversity", hence why I only have 2 of those just for the sake of exposure. As an artist who’s trying to show my art through Shorts, yeah I can agree on how Shorts can suck sometimes, especially the algorithm. It is basically addicting. For example, they use overly stimulating content with funny bright colors and yelling or funny little Peter griffin clip with funny colorful mobile game. In then when you move to regular form it is actually chill. No overly stimulating content with vibrant colors catching you 3 second attention span. It quite literally not as colorful and loud and not fast so, it is boring because it is actually chill and regularly stimulating. In then that does not make you question why some people think they have ADHD when they don't. I am just gonna say, attention span is not just ADHD. It is also being really hyperactive and one more I can not remember. I can speak from experience when I was an extremely hyper kid running back and forth constantly and not being able to sit still.

The website shoves them in your face, They are usually just clips of other videos that exist, and I don't have the option to exclude them from anything. There are some good creators that make shorts. Being a powerbuilder, one good example from the gym side of youtube is Sean Nalewanyj. His shorts are full of good info.
I might have to check that out since I'm trying to get back into weightlifting after so long
I hate that my videos typically count as shorts. Like yes I make short videos, but NO I do NOT want them to be SHORTS. I want them to be those random ass videos that pop up in your recommended in 12 years for no reason.

It's funny how most of the people who make GOOD shorts aren't actually shorts youtubers, they're regular youtubers who just make some of those to try and get people to watch their channel.

I remember seeing some bs clip where a girl was holding a giant baloon in front of her and trying to make her teacher pop it.
She was wearing very revealing that were enitirely hidden by the baloon to give the illusion that she is naked.
That thing was 15 godamn minutes of her and teacher going back and forth like "uwu will you pop the ballon teach", "uwu idk will I pop the baloon."
Thank god I had the 1000 iq ideea to press the screen to see how much time is left. I remained mute when i sa 15 minutes for that waste of time.

shorts are either a helpful tool for content creators to stay connected with their audience, or they are the worst thing to ever happen to TH-cam and thank god I have been on the platform long enough to already know what bad or downright abhorrent content is.

Even if I'm doing TH-cam shorts when I can't get a normal video out, I plan for these shorts to feel like videos. Aside from the aspect ratio, they'll have the same editing style, the same humor, and will be of similar content.

I'm honestly not aware of how TH-cam shorts function, but thanks to your informative video, I finally realized that making a short video is not always a good idea. Mainly because the function and algorithm is similar to TikTok, in terms of using other user's content for clout.
I used to make short videos until I completely ran out of ideas, because most of the ideas I've been wanting try to create, were already done by hundreds of users.
Imagine myself uploading my own TH-cam shorts, then people rush in and say that I copied or stole someone else's work, even though the video concept was my idea.
Thanks for the information, I'll keep your statements in mind, because I almost gave up on making my own content, out of fear of people calling me out over plagiarism, even though I don't commit it. 😔

Those are the worst videos I saw, and I unfortunately discovered them by accident.
The only short creators i truly respect are the ones that cook stuff.
This just further confirms my belief that we live in a society that values quantity over quality; where everything is cheap, mass-produced garbage, including the people.
I decided to do my own experiment, i reloaded the page, and i decided to ser how much content is long or shorts, its overwhelming, around 2 or 3 are long videos, a couple of comunity posts, and a TSUNAMI! Of shorts!! This js completely unacceptable

I think I have a theory behind why Amy is seen as Sonic's child but also has a close relationship with him, along with the fact she's in a wheelchair in these shorts.
In these shorts, we are in a different universe, in this case, Amy is Sonic's child, later on we can see she is both pregnant, and judging by the fact she is also in a wheelchair, possibly disabled as well (I'll get into that in a second). Now I know what you're thinking "Wait, Sonic did *that* with his own daughter??" Well actually, if we consider there are others in this universe, I'm going to say that Sonic is not the father of Amy's daughter, but someone else is (I don't have any theories on who is though), now for the wheelchair part, I'm guessing that she may have gone through something causing her to be disabled, judging by the fact Sonic is seen pushing Amy into the water multiple times, I suspect Sonic possibly threw her into a sea of sharks causing her to have gotten mistaken for shark food, which in turns caused her permanent leg injury.
But that's just a theory, a youtube shorts theory.

TH-cam shorts community is horrible. I compared reddit to TH-cam shorts, and reddit seems to be much more kinder than those toxic masculinity edits comments sections.

Most of TH-cam shorts and TikTok is brainless content that waste away your life, and half the time you get the same videos or the same 5 genre of video. The only time you should watch this crap is when your in a hospital waiting for doctors all day.
Firefox has browser extensions that can Block Shorts And truly block any channel from appearing in your feed with the click of a button. Spread the word. only action will fix things.

The only shorts that are decent (the best compliment I can give) are the actual short-form videos with proper effort that some creators make, like this one minecraft content creator who shares their minigame ideas through shorts.

You know, as a small time video maker on YT, I feel the same way. I've always found majority of the shorts abhorrent in the same way an old conservative white supremacist feels towards "diversity", hence why I only have 2 of those just for the sake of exposure. I hate that shorts are the meta and the YT promotion community I joined encourages us to do this like we're selling our souls off even though I always knew that a lot of short form content (except the cooking videos) are just horrendous and utter dogshit. I hate that it's the meta because its destroying attention span and turning people into absolute normies who can't appreciate substance. Ever since shorts were created some of my videos aren't even viewed past 1 minute which is just demotivating. Shorts needs to die off (but a man can only dream), that shit belongs to tiktok.

As an artist who’s trying to show my art through Shorts, yeah I can agree on how Shorts can suck sometimes, especially the algorithm.
Like I’m autistic and like watching Shorts with fidgets/slime/ASMR in them, or just watch some comedy skits or other things I am interested in, and I could spend the entire day watching content about Nintendo or art and get nothing similar recommended to me, but there was that one time I got recommended a Marilyn Monroe short and misclicked on it by accident, even tho I didn’t watch the whole thing I still got Marilyn Monroe shorts recommended to me for the entire month, even tho actors/actresses are one of the things I couldn’t care any less about in the world 💀

It is basically addicting. For example, they use overly stimulating content with funny bright colors and yelling or funny little Peter griffin clip with funny colorful mobile game. In then when you move to regular form it is actually chill. No overly stimulating content with vibrant colors catching you 3 second attention span. It quite literally not as colorful and loud and not fast so, it is boring because it is actually chill and regularly stimulating. In then that does not make you question why some people think they have ADHD when they don't. I am just gonna say, attention span is not just ADHD. It is also being really hyperactive and one more I can not remember. I can speak from experience when I was an extremely hyper kid running back and forth constantly and not being able to sit still.
I think the reason why content is stolen so much in shorts is because the viewers are children who wouldn’t care about weather content is stolen or not

I wanna say as a consumer of videos and not a creator, I find YTShorts to be annoying. The website shoves them in your face, They are usually just clips of other videos that exist, and I don't have the option to exclude them from anything. Why can't I have a setting to just say "no I don't want Shorts in my subscription feed" and "Do not show me Shorts" If someone makes an extension to remove them they are an angel.
