OMG! I just read these last night, you beat me to the review, well played good sir. Also congratulations on 100k subcribers, well deserved Omar, you are a treasure to the comic book community.
The concept of the Skinnerboxes presented here (the boxes created by the Inbetweener, who lures apprentices through the boxes) recently showed up in The Immortal Thor!! I love details like these that really reinforce the idea of a Marvel UNIVERSE
Nice. Thanks for this overview. I’ve been planning on getting the TPB because it’s Hickman and we should’ve learned by know that he builds gradually over time. I imagine that will also apply over the next few years with the seeds he plants here. The only question is whether you enjoy Hickman’s storytelling. Of course, there’s also the art, which seems ok here. It’s not nearly as cartoonish or caricaturish as much of Marvel’s art over the last couple decades.
Why do you need art to be so realistic? Picasso and Van Gogh can do abstract art but not comic book artists? Piet Mondrian did abstract paintings and was praised but comic book artists who try to experiment with art styles aren't allowed? Why must every Marvel book look the same wouldn't that be boring? Superhero art should be experimental, these are characters who defy the laws of physics lol.
It should have been a 12 issue miniseries instead of being an 8 part series with a no-ending ending where a main character dies off-panel and not much happens ultimately. The art was freakin’ incredible however and is worth something but the story itself…just wasn’t all-that-great. Some interesting ideas can’t save a whole book.
They hyped this up so much before it came out like it was going to change the Marvel universe but it just fell flat to me. Only person I really connected with was Wyn.
This is my favorite series of the last year. It’s so different and scratches a unique sci-fi/cosmic place for me. Hoping for more issues of this. Let Hickman cook for a while!
From my experience with Hickman books is that there are certainly 'wow' moments, but i also feel he goes too wide in his scope and makes things super clunky. In several of his books he has to waste pages on all kinds of crazy charts just to give us a very slightly clearer view of what he is writing.
Used to be a huge Hickman fan and I considered him a genius. But after the continuity destroying Krakoan era it is obvious how badly he needs a good editor.
@@akkakkakekkn GODS was OK. Krakoa was a continuity train wreck that contradicted every X-men story ever and replaced the X-men with fascistic segregation clones.
@@uxm4life94 Absolutely not. It builds up in years and years of continuity and finally answered the stupid question of "what if mutants with resurrection powers were actually useful???" Also, HOXPOX clearly set up Krakoa as not the right choice, as a cultish ethnostate that would fall by its own hand. Krakoa was not meant to be, that's how I interpreted it, but after he left, the next writers flipped the coin and believed it was a one-dimensional, happy-go-lucky society
This was unexpected but I'll never complain on a Jonathan Hickman book!
It's a really unique comic book, I really do hope we get more stories from the creative team.

This is my first time watching a video with single issues! I LOVE IT! Thanks for this overview, Omar!

Great overview! I've been interested in Jonathan Hickman's G.O.D.S. since it was announced. I'm looking forward to the trade releasing.
Loved this! I hope the title comes back at some point
Amazing comic!
Holy Crap! Omar collects floppies?!?! 😮

Hickman seems to have a similar influence in a lot of his writing. I keep seeing the same words used in multiple books

I'm pretty sure there isn't any more coming
I just wish the last issue cleared things up better,
What were the HoX/PoX easter eggs?
Tried it, but it fell flat.
This book was great! I loved it! My LCS loved it too. You want something different, try this book.
@@akkakkakekkn welcome to the mute list bot.
Is there a reason now reviewing single issues?

Selene will ascend to Godhood.

I think the Krakoa era died because he had a bad editor. And bad editorial.
You have no idea what you're talking about. Gods is amazing.

@@uxm4life94 I don't think anyone agrees with you. I've heard of legitimate criticism of Krakoa but that's not one of them.

My initial hunch about this series is true. I'm glad i saved money and never bought this series. It's not my thing.
Read issue 1 when it came out. Gave up right after. Skip this one lads. Or not. Who knows maybe collected it rules.
When this came out, it was a big nope for me. Hickman is hit or miss and it seems he just likes to write, just to show off his skills. Hard pass.
This was a true flop. I can see what Hickman was trying to accomplish (which would have been awesome), but it didn't materialize.
