I do live in Canada and I did the same mistake when younger son was born so I told my oldest son n my husband we should speak for him only in our language Gujarati but today I feel so bad about myself ke I stopped my own growth. My purpose was solved right now my son can at least communicate in Gujarati with everyone, not in very good way but today I feel sometimes I can’t communicate well.So I think when your kids are growing up it’s the best time to grow ourselves as well bcoz if you start learning things at this age of course there’s a hesitation about it so many thoughts comes in our mind so it’s the best time to join our kids. They’re also learning like you so no one says who is right n wrong. Today’s world everyone wants their kids should have good life and education. Until certain levels you can do your own thing but if you want to be with the others we need to change our thoughts we have to try to filled up that generation gaps. Make compulsory to speak English during the school hour and a small punishment if it'd not happen like I will talk in English in the school this can create a habit and make learn the language compulsory
I do agree ..that people are diverting to english medium … but it is important to understand that there were many students with me who were struggling with English during their college time .. i was one of them as Gujarati medium student but I didn’t have that issue bcz my parents have done really good parenting and both were well educated so i am pretty good english speaker… Choose english medium which make ur kids good in using English language but parents have to work with kids to master their languages doesn’t matter it is Gujarati or English …

I agree with you. Small children have good memory. If they learn Only in Gujarati, along with an additional language as English, till 3rd standard and later they switch to English in all subjects and an additional language as Gujarati, then they'll have good grip on both the languages... We also had Hindi and Sanskrit from 8th std. onwards
How paradoxical was your speech.. a few minutes earlier you said that you wanted to be an IPS but your mom pushed you to do BA and 15 minutes later you said " when i declared i want to do BA , my mother had a mild attack" .I really appreciate the way you speak but now am actually questioning all your speeches.. they feel well written and not your actual episodes
