Extinct dog breeds have played an essential role in developing popular breeds today. This is a fascinating subject, especially for those interested in the history and development of dogs.
Absolutely! The history of extinct dog breeds is truly intriguing, especially how they influenced the breeds we know and love today. It's amazing to see their legacy living on in our modern companions! 🐕
I've got a Alano Espanol or often called a Spanish war dog..A very little known ancient breed even in Spain..It was originally bought to Spain by a tribe called the Alans in the 5th century. The dogs were used by the Spanish in their conquest of the Americas in around 1493..The dogs were trained to hunt humans and fed on human flesh. The breed is a mastif/molossoid type.. They are basically a catch dog, they can run like a horse and have limitless stamina. Their front legs are thicker set than the rears, this gives them unbelievable pulling force, the neck muscles are massive and their paws have thick chunky pads for ease of running on the rocky ground..They are bred to be social with other dogs but they will finish a fight if another dog starts on them, they are a dominant breed, fearless and will fight to the death to protect house and owner. When all the conquesting was over the dogs were used to hunt wild bulls, when that pastime declined they were then used for hunting wild boar , which they still do today but in lesser numbers.. My bitch is from hunting stock and her parents regularly go out boar hunting..By the late 70s early 80s the breed had basically died out and was facing extinction. A couple of Spaniards searched the whole of Spain and found 200 remaining dogs in the northern mountainous part of Spain, from these 200 dogs they brought the breed back from extinction, and what a dog they are.
It’s truly heartbreaking to think about these amazing dog breeds that are no longer with us. But their legacy lives on through the popular breeds we know and love today! Glad you enjoyed the information ❤️🐕
It's truly unfortunate how some humans have exploited animals in the past. We aim to raise awareness about animals and their histories, with a focus on appreciation and respect for them. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
Britain had mastiffs before the Romans arrived on our shores and this is mentioned by strabo the Greek. He mentions that they were more ferocious than their molossus. The Romans took some of these dogs back to Rome to fight in the areanas and cross them with their own dogs.
The is a difference between Old English and Olde English bulldog. Old English Bull dogs are all but gone, Olde English are related but not the same. Now days better known as Victorian Bull dog.
The Old English Bulldog could actually do the job a bulldog was breed to do, the modern one would be killed. Also despite how many there are (54,000+ in the UK), officially they have the DNA variation of just 1000-ish individuals because of how inbreed they are. Because of the lack of the genetic variation, would they be a wild animal they'd be considered endangered as a species. In short, the Victorians produced a bottleneck for the breed that means for the next 10-30,000+ years, they are in trouble if they don't diversify. Its the same problem Cheetahs face from a bottleneck that happened to them 18,000 years ago. Its still impacting them now.
I'd just like to say sorry but u are so wrong about the Hawaiian poi dog! POI DOGS ARE A MIXED UP BREEDS OF DOG BREEDS NO MATTER WHAT TYPE OF DOG BREED ITS JUST A DOG THATS MIXED WITH MORE TWO BREEDS ALSO CALLED Mutts
Thanks for sharing! The term "poi dog" has been used in different ways, but you're right that many people refer to mixed-breed dogs as "poi dogs" in Hawaii today. Historically, the original Hawaiian Poi Dog was a specific breed used by native Hawaiians, but it went extinct. It's great to hear perspectives on the topic!
All of the races you have described are from Western Europe and its colonies. Most of the extinct dog breeds are from other parts of the world, but perhaps this video was made for viewers from Western Europe.
Thank you for the feedback! You’re right that many extinct breeds from different regions of the world have had a significant influence on today’s dogs. We’ll keep that in mind for future content to provide a more global perspective.
Obviously you have not idea contradicting yourself in first two minutes of talking , and Obviously you have no idea about dogs , you just comparing oranges with apple 😂
It sounds like Gabriel thinks there was a mix-up in the comparisons made in the video. Some viewers can be pretty passionate about topics like dog breeds, especially when it comes to their origins. It might be helpful to double-check the info and make sure the comparisons are clear to avoid any confusion next time!
Also The Original Mastiff Still exists today. I own one named Maximus and his bloodlines are the oldest known genetics ON EARTH!!! The Original Mastiff traces all the way back to Babylon!!! DNA cannot lie! Geneticists have also proven that all Mastiff kind including the Tibetan are all derived from the True Original Mastiff that Maximus is!!!
The Original Bulldog still exists here in the United States! It was brought to North America on the MAYFLOWER!!! They are called Old Southern Whites today!!! Do your homework.
That’s not the baiting Bulldog. The baiting Bulldog is the Pit Bulldog. The Old Southern Whites may be of Spanish bloodline since the Spaniards were in that region long before the English.

Only humans are so sick and twisted they would set animals against one another, and then enjoy the experience.

I've met a few people but never a dog I didn't like 😊

Bro your artwork ☆★☆★☆💯👍🏻
Many popular dog breeds today have their ancestral heritage from the British isles. All bulldog type breeds originate from Britain. Terriers.
Talks about the Cordoba then describes the Argentinian dogo and shows one pic of the Cordoba!
The dog in the thumbnail was huge
If you think that thumbnail is a real photo then you're more gullible than a Trump supporter.
old english bulldog is still about i own one

The Hawaiian Poi dog was kept as a source of food and had a vegetarian diet.😳
What about the cordoba fighting dog ?
I used to own a dog like the one in the thumbnail.
His name was battle cat.
Most of the images of the English Bulldog are its modern abomination. Not the one used actually for bulldogging.

If the Molasses of Greece is gone away, then what the hell is the Molossus of Epirus, which is still alive and doing well in Greece?
Some of these breeds, like the Old English Bulldog, are nothing like the breed used to be, to the point their two completely different breeds.
