My list of fun wargames would certainly include Carnevale (the 2 player starter is a FULL game in a box - minis, terrain and everything included!). Love that the game uses verticality so much - it feels like playing assassins creed or something similar, you constantly climb dangerous surfaces, try to drop onto enemies from above, or maybe you try to toss them into the water, so you can attempt to drown them etc. The "parkouring" you can do by getting a free jump if your first jump ends on a low terrain element makes it super mobile and constantly gives you these risk/reward choises: yes I could just walk across that bridge and then charge and get 1 free attack, but IF I risk the dice rolls, I could jump onto the gondola, chain jump into the other side of the canal, into the enemy and get 2 attacks of that way - but I have to roll 2 jump checks and because the gondola is obviously unstable there is one more dex check to not end up in the canals. It just leads to incredibly cinematic games where you constantly push your luck and do stuff like the above gondola jump etc. The second I would like to mention: The doomed. It is mini agnostic and size agnostic! It can work on any size of table almost, since you do NOT measure to move. It is also insanely fast, a game taking 30 minutes top. Movement is done that you can move as far as you want, but only in a strait line, so you need relatively dense terrain to ensure movement is blocked and if you want to move more then once a turn you have to roll a check, of you fail your oppoentn decides where your followup move ends. And it really encourages kitbashing like no other game I'm aware of. Also the scenario generation is great, you roll a d66 for the mission and a d66 for the neutral horror, that will attack both sides eequally, taking it down is as important as doing the mission. I've got some reservations about Dropzone (not that it isn't a good game, but the buy in, set up, rules, and just availability sort of takes it off my list).... I feel like MCP is a great call, and I should check out Mutant Year Zero (I have the rpg books). I have to echo another commenter that Deadzone by Mantic should be getting some love... I also think Moonstone by Goblin King Games is one that everyone should try out... I know it just dropped, but Fallout: Faction (not Wasteland Warfare!!) is another on that looks like it follows the Mutant Year Zero style of "here's a box, you are good to go (with maybe a bit more gluing). And I'll just throw out my honorable mention in the form of RelicBlade by Sean Sutter... fantastic little game with fun models and great easy to pick up rules.
@SciFiPorkChop28 Thanks. There are some cool games on your list. I may have to look at adding some Deadzone content to the channel at some point. I think Mantic, as a company, have a great outlook. Regarding Dropzone, I think availability outside the UK might be an issue. The initial buy-in isn't too bad IMHO, as the starter sets and expansion boxes are such good value.
Only issue with Dust (Dust 1947? Dust Tactics?) is they are out of print and the company shut down... so there are a lot of older products still available, but some stuff is rare as hen's teeth.. so bit of a struggle to keep the game going locally.. great game though... miss it.
I agree - it's a real shame the game is hard to get now. I am somewhat hopeful that the new iteration of Konflict '47 might breathe life into this particular wargaming niche. They have been hiring some talented writers and designers.
@paulcrowther4514 I enjoyed Necromunda back in the day. Having played it more recently, I found it frustrating. As with lots of GW rules systems, there are several steps to success - fail one of them, and you fail. That might be OK with a squad of troops - some miss, some fail to wound, etc. but some achieve hits - but for an individual a single misstep along the way equals a fail. I don't like that personally.
I tried DZC years ago a guy demo it for me and i didn't enjoy it , but he was one of those guys thats crushes all people as fast as possible with his OP lists . So the game didn't get a fair crack witj me
@JamesClark-j5l Some models are still available, but nothing new. I mentioned it in passing, as it is a great setting and system - and games have a habit of being reborn, so you never know...
That's tricky, given the different prices from one country to the next. What I will say is that the Dropzone Commander starter set and army boxes are outstanding value.
GW should pay more attention to videos like this . while they have some amazing minis, the GAMES themselves leave a lot to be desired sometimes. not a single GW product on the 5 game list.
Like a lot of players, I started with GW games - but found the outdated mechanics and constant rules-bloating became a chore. That said, I like the Middle Earth Strategy Game and will probably pick up the new edition.

Can you show the new model in a battle report?!
@@wonderboy2402 I play to do an assembly and painting video first - and then I will absolutely use it in a battle report!
@@The.Game.Cave. awesome - so what set should a new player start with?
This Video could be even better with timestamps. put it into the description.

Marvel Crisis!
Fallout reminds me very much of the old Games Workshop (wash my mouth out) game Necromunda.
@@The.Game.Cave. isnt that the same with every 'dice roll' games, even just as simple as a roll to hit
I tried DZC years ago a guy demo it for me and i didn't enjoy it , but he was one of those guys thats crushes all people as fast as possible with his OP lists .
So the game didn't get a fair crack witj me
@Flamethrower1942 I'm sorry to hear that. It sounds like a nightmare demo game! I think that someone with that attitude could ruin any game.
I thought Dust had folded and was no longer sold?
@JamesClark-j5l Some models are still available, but nothing new. I mentioned it in passing, as it is a great setting and system - and games have a habit of being reborn, so you never know...
Based on George RR Martin work? Then we should expect this to never be finished
I hear that! I've been looking forward to Tge Winds of Winter what feels like an age now! I really hope that 2025 might be the year!
Mentioning costs would help. I’d like to know how much the fun will empty my wallet.
Stop speaking to me like a manager.
