The part at 2:28 is the most elegant display of I've ever seen of something I've always said for years; the bass is the key element of the music. If the bass is off, everything sounds off, cause everything is relative to the bass. I've never seen that better encapsulated than right there.
"Enjoying the pain" is definitely another level of improvising. No wrong notes here, we just have to lead them somewhere with some sense (to rest for a brief moment).
This might be the best intro into teaching jazz I could ever watch, there were so many concepts mentioned that I could feel what I liked and what I thought didn't really work.
Golden tip @ 16:38 - Find a simple, interesting idea you can repeat, while you give your mind the time to scramble together a sick line. You might only hear the first few notes or a general idea in your head, but it's enough to get you to a point where your intuition catches up. That's why it's worth listening to, playing and generally soaking up different ideas. Try to hear the ways people have figured out how to play over different chords/movements and adopt, apply and make your own, the ones you like. And may as well try to discover your own ways to do, think about and hear things while you're at it!
Adam channeling a little Michael Brecker around 15:30. Trains is one of my favourites, sing the solo every time I hear it hehe. Awesome video, makes me want to sit with a simple vamp for like an hour and really learn what's there and what's applicable.
This is gold for those looking for a musical explanation of theory (sounds obvious, but so many theory lessons fail to adequately demonstrate how it can be applied musically)
1:32 beautiful I had a visceral reaction to that lineee and that last passing chord on one was delicious 6:47 and the f sharp at 15:33 was perfect really shows how one note can completely recontextualize a line
Ha, love how you can't stop vibing, awesome! Such a cool demonstration of how much is contained in a simple thing that a lot of us have played, and how much of a change a single bass note makes. 🔥
Nice to see this kind of vibe, especially with Adam giving great insights on the harmony Would have been nice to just see more of both getting lost in the improv
I respect a lot jazz musicians, I try to learn about it, digest it, make it part of my vocabulary, but jazz players really understand music you know? I feel that jazz gives you the key of freedom in music, and freedom is just understanding.
Great video idea, I suggest having a shorter video where you take song which is meant for explaining certain harmonic devices used in different genres. In the video you would explain what’s happening while playing the song. I 4-5 minute video in this format would be great.
I love this kind of lessons. Mostly because i think it's not the notes you play but the mindset you have while playing and the conviction to embrace new weird ideas. Amazing thanks!
Nice tip for the bassist to hold you’re ground when the soloist is going outside the scale. Just wondering if you have a system if the soloist just starts playing in an other scale. Is there a way improvising jazz players signal each other when they go up a third or something like that?
Well, E minor pentatonic has the notes E, G, A, B and D, which all belong to C major as well, so there are no notes "outside" the key. You have access to both the thirds of and major sevenths for both chords in this progression (A and E for Fmaj7, E and B in Cmaj7), so it's pretty easy to emphasize the harmony. As long as someone is playing the chord progression in a steady(ish) manner, you can get some nice melodies going even without having access to the roots of the chords. It makes for a pretty floaty sound without getting too weird. That's my take, anyway!
Why every video I see a musician playing someone says It sounds like Zelda? I know Zelda but that's funny anyway. lol Everyone is playing Zelda. So sad I don't have a Nintendo. :(
If you're in NYC come to our Blue Note show Sunday!!
I wish!
They really just broke it down that easy I love what youtubers are doing to bring music education to everyone and make it feel so accessible
❤️🙏
The Iphone notification being the tonic of the key they’re in was perfect

The oldest story
Guitarist: you can just play whatever and make it work
Bassist: nods while crying inside
the chemistry in this video is electric
Unironically the juiciest shit Ive grooved to so far in 2023

Chord progression to "Ventura Highway". So basically the band "America" was one of the early "lofi" bands?
Float on- the floaters such an addictive vamp
Such tasteful playing!
Thanks Mike!
THAT! was a vibe! Thanks!
🙏 thanks Linda!!!
This is what I needed harmonic expression utilizing passing chords
Tho I wish there was a lesson on utilizing arpeggios to express certain intervals for a chord
Cool vibes and some very useful pointers, much appreciated
Any time! 🙏
great vid!
Thanks Bob 🙏

Reminds me of the title screen song to The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time. Which has the same key and chord progression.
Oh yea lol!
Your colors reminded me of self-titled album by Caroline.
Ill check it out!

Cool video. What model bass is Adam playing? That thing is stylish
Totally epic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks Chris!!
watching til the end to see if they talk about Roten vocalizing along with his playing
You’re the smoothest, bud, and that ain’t hay.
I feel like a learned so much in such a short video. cool stuff, subbed

🙃
Amazing content guys!!
Thanks !!
Thanks for this - great to jam along with & get fresh ideas 👍😊
Your guitar is a real beauty! What model is it?
Do you have any tips on guitars for someone who's looking to get into hollowbodies (semi as well)?
I'm also curious. No logo on the headstock, I think? Maybe a custom guitar from a smaller maker?
Cool 😎
F/G all day
rotem is so good
❤️🙏🙏
yeah
Rotem is so damn good
oh man!
Hey adam nice bass, what is the brand?
Summary of the video:
If you know what you are doing, anything goes.

YESS
Yea
It's actually reductive to label this Lo-fi. So much more than that going on here
Hello Rotem. I would like to ask you a question. Do you use metronome when you study or you put a line bass of battery like that?
"mmm yea"
:)
Puma Blue vibes : Moon Undah Water
I remember when “lo fi music” denoted a music genre with a low fidelity sound quality and not a style of music.
…or showing off generic pointless virtuosity.
Yo that’s crazy. Now it’s a style of music tho
1:36 LoZ lick?
what is the name of this bass? please

@@RotemSivanGuitar was afraid of that answer ;) I’ll have to start looking for a bass player that can listen …
Jazz is enjoying the pain but this nears into BDSM territory with those level 9 colors, Rotem my dude 💓
Chromatic Action ! Hashem bless you . extremely good inside of music on this galaxy, man!
❤️🎸🚀
What you can't see in this video, right behind them is $240 worth of pudding.
I think I'm still confused on why the e minor worked
