Why have Kpop idols become global heartthrobs? One big factor is the embrace of soft masculinity in Korean pop culture. In this reaction, I dive deep into how soft masculinity has reshaped traditional beauty standards, making Kpop idols incredibly desirable. This video touches on the significance of emotional vulnerability, fashion, and beauty in redefining masculinity, with examples from leading Kpop groups like BTS, EXO, and more. Join me as I explore why Kpop idols blur the lines of conventional gender norms, making them icons not just in South Korea but worldwide. Based on fan comments, interviews, and reactions from the Kpop community, this video uncovers the powerful influence of soft masculinity in the global rise of Kpop idols. 🔥 #KpopMasculinity #VexReacts #KoreanPop

When people say BTS paved the way, they aren’t negating the artist that came before them or who made KPop. They are talking about BTS paved the way outside of S. Korea. There were some groups who made some headways into Western societies, but BTS broke the doors WIDE OPEN and accomplished things never dreamed of before them.

People don't take it that way because the majority of armies use that saying as a way to insult other people's favs and to rub bts achievements in people's face

@@kimberlymackey4417 First of all it's ARMYs not armies. Second, how is it insulting to say bts paved the way? I've seen stans say their own groups paved the/their way when that isn't true. Kpop stans take it as an insult but why exactly are kpop albums even available in stores in the US? Why can kpop groups sign with US labels? and why can those groups be invited in the first place? It's due to bts and ARMYs. But kpop stans deny their impact.

@@Imme_begin right? No one is saying that BTS INVENTED Kpop. But they undeniably made it globally popular.

I’m female. I am attracted to pretty as well. Handsome pretty men ARE attractive. Why should men be the only ones to get a pretty mate? Doesn’t mean the male muscles are any weaker.

@@Imme_begin I don’t think you understood the sentence .. Jk said something like "Men shouldn’t check their selfies" (not in a serious way).. and then Jimin said this. it’s about what men are.. the toxic masculinity.. and who decided what men are supposed to be like.. that’s why Jimin said it.. it’s like who decided that blue is only a boy color and pink a girl color..

we all need more men like Jackson Wang, he said in an interview that whoever he settles with can choose how many kids they have because she's giving birth, like if he loves someone who doesn't want kids then he's cool with it

Also all of these "soft features" people say kpop idols have are sometimes just asian features plus the makeup enhancement of what is considered "pretty" for the camera. So in lots of time there's an aspect of racism in these types of criticsm.
And, while extremely talented they are in a visual industry, their looks are part of what helped them succed so of course the idols who made it will be beautiful people with the necesary talent. And yes charisma also helps but that helps with attractivenes as well:)
The makeup thing is just stupid. There is no one who is professionally on camera who does not wear makeup. The only difference is that artists(not only kpop) are more expressive with it.
I follow just a few groups but i've noticed that there are lots of clips of idols' "duality". Cuz that's the thing . A good looking and fit person can be perceived as very masculine or feminine depending the styling and attitude or manerisms. Jimin of BTS is a very good example since he has very delicate but very sharp features, and he is a born performer so you can see him change on a dime as he gets into character(Filter performance is a very good example).

I think change is exceedingly hard for any culture that has such a strong age hierarchy system.

16:22. Yes. Women want human partners. In an ideal society. But we live in a society dominated by men, where domination is the rule. Womens preferences usually fall to the wayside but with women making money now their preferences are being considered.

Its not just woman making money its also them having the option to opt out of marriage, so now men actually have to try and think about how to be desireable.

I’m GenX. The “Idols” of my day were groups like Poison, Guns & Roses, Kiss, Sex Pistols, Cinderella, etc. When hair bands went away, punk and emo rock came in with groups like The Killers, Linkin Park, Good Charlotte, Fall Out Boy, My Chemical Romance, etc. Not only did these groups all wear heavy makeup when performing, but they were loved by men and women alike. Why is makeup accepted on Western artists and not Asian? Might the reason be racism? (Shocked Pikachu face.)
Asian men naturally have less facial and body hair. They often have slightly smaller frames. The combination of a culture of skin care and good genetics leave them with soft skin. None of this has anything to do with masculinity, but these are common racial characteristics.
When I hear someone call Asian men effeminate, gay or soft, all I am hearing them say is that they are racist.

You make it seem as if Kpop hasn’t had any scandals of their own. Just take a look at burning sun bad things happen everywhere. Just because you favor kpop over western music doesn’t mean it’s better. Kpop is literally just western pop just in Korean and with actual performances.

I enjoy watching young male creators like you because I'm a 54-year-old woman, and it is interesting to get a new perspective. What I wish men of all ages could understand is that there are many ways to be masculine. A guy can be doing super macho stuff one day, and the next day be playing dress-up with his daughter, and both of those are great. I think of V of BTS, who was shown a lot in this video, and how he behaves around children (cuddle bear), but that he's in a special forces unit right now in the military. He can be both things, and more, and so can any man. The poet Walt Whitman said, "I am vast. I contain multitudes." A man's expression of masculinity is only limited by his own mind and insecurity. Well, society does add pressure.

This is an excellent video, including your comments and questions. Workplace retaliation, discrimination, and the pay gap between men and women seems more pronounced than in the U.S. even when racism is considered here in the U.S. I imagine the contrast between KPop idols, KDramas, and "real life" shines a light on problems with persistent gender differences. I think Korea has a low birth rate due to the high cost of living AND the tiresome BS of current gender norms.
