Their songs always cover historical war events and they have a parallell channel called Sabaton History where they explain the background to their songs. You basically can't go wrong with the song choices. They are great and their live shows have amazing energy! This song is about an all-female bomber squad from Russia during World War 2 that harried Germans at night. They were called the Night Witches.

Best history teacher you will ever get is Sabaton, who glorify those who were involved in great historical events without glorifying the event themselves. Try and do them LIVE as you see what a stage show they put on. Bismarck is a great MV and the visuals are stunning. Each song is awesome. Here they remember the great all female Russian Bomber squad who fought the Nazis with outdated equipment and shear valor and bravery, the 588th is a legend and despite overwhelming odds gave the Nazis all they could handle.

As the comments below state, It is indeed "Bismark" that youre looking for. The song is the story about the greatest battleship of WW2 built by Germany. Sabaton is what I would call, an "Anthemic Power Metal Band" that sings more specifically, about "Military History" of all nations. They sing about individuals, groups of people, specific battles or conflicts or entire theatres of war so that we can all learn more about the events that shaped this world. If you want a purely visual experience along with their story telling, react to "Bismark" next. If you want the pure energy of a live performance that really showcases what theyre about , react to "Ghost Division live at Woodstock" (official video). Then go from there. I look forward to seeing yalls videos. ( yes, I said "Yall, Im from Tennessee)

  • @craven1927

This song is about the WWII all-female Russian night bomber squadron. They flew out dated bi-planes at night, and would shut off their engines to glide in silently to their targets. The sound of the wind against their canvas wings is where the "night witches" nickname came from. Also, due to weight restrictions they didn't wear any parachutes. As amazing as Sabaton's songs are, the real life stories behind them are even more amazing. You need to check out more.
And yes, Bismarck is the song you are looking for.

    • @MsCatstaff

Hey guys! I misclicked on your reaction, thinking it was the Yarnhub video -- but boy, am I glad I did! I was not expecting this to be the live video! Holy crap, it was awesome! Probably the most metal live performance I've seen in a long time!
And by the way, to make a correction, Joakim, the lead singer, didnt pull out a rocket launcher at the end -- it was a replica 3.5" US Army bazooka! Most rocket launchers are designed to see the rocket outside of the tube, like a Russian RPG-7. If anything, the 3.5" bazooka would be more akin to a grenade launcher, like M79 "Big Thumper" or the underbarrel 40mm grenade launcher you see on the US M4 MBR (Main Battle Rifle), since you load a bazooka round from the back of the weapon, not the front. A _panzerfaust,_ which was a German rocket launcher, was loaded from the front.

Yup, it's this band and the song is likely 'Bismarck', about the German battle ship with the same name. I recommend doing a reaction to the official music video for it (as it is EPIC!), and for some extra fun, hit up Sabaton's History channel on TH-cam for the history/story/background behind the song before or after the music video as a small double feature.

It is called Bismarck. Aside from UTA, Sabaton is my favorite band. All their songs are about combat and war history. You'll enjoy so many of their songs I think. Ghost Division, Carolus Rex (English version), Screaming Eagles is a great music video, the music video for Bismarck is awesome as well. There are too many songs I love from this band to mention here honestly.

They've used this "on-the-stage-perspective" for a ton of live videos from their last tour. It's quite a unique and innovative thing, comparable to those 360 degree cameras that have been used a bit by some bands. And with that comes the "no cuts", and not being able to run around a lot. The camera guy has been mostly fixated in the same corner of the stage, right next to the drums (stage right). I, for one, enjoy this angle. for a change.
Another thing I like with this band it that they have two very good guitarists. Not one rythm guitar player and one lead guitar player - but two guitarists - both doing rythm and lead. There are other bands with the same setup... Iron Maiden and Helloween are two bands that come to mind.
That ending... using anti-tank weapons on the drummer (on top of a tank) though... looks a bit similar to the Swedish "Carl Gustaf" recoilless rifle.
One last thing... did anyone else already mention that the drummer is married to Floor Jansen of Nightwish? I have no idea, because who ever reads any of the other comments before commenting themselves?

The Bismark was a battleship. If I remember right, it was sunk by the British navy. It was trying to escape when it's screw and rudder was struck and the ship could only go in a circle, making it a very easy target. roughly 2000 Germans died. The British rescued some men but was forced to withdraw based on a report of a German U-boat. The Bismark (a WW2 battleship) was named after Chancellor Otto von Bismark.

Don't know if anyone's given the history behind this song but here goes...
The song refers to the 588th Night Bomber Regiment of the Red Air Force, a unit marked by the fact that its pilots were all female. They were remarkable in that they flew obsolete Polikarpov Po-2 biplane aircraft at incredibly low level, and carried out their attack runs with their engines switched off for a near silent approach, except for the eerie whistling sound of the wind blowing over the bracing wires and the wings. The German troops on the receiving end of their bomb runs likened the sound to that of a witch's broomstick flying through the air, and coupled with their uncanny knack of appearing without warning in the middle of the night to rain fire on them, began referring to these attackers as 'die Nachthexen' - literally translated, 'Night Witches', or 'Nochnyye Ved'my' in Russian.
Despite their aircraft being far inferior to the German fighters, they were very difficult to shoot down in air-to-air combat; the Bf109 and Fw190 fighters of the Luftwaffe had a stall speed equal to the maximum speed of the Po-2, making it extremely difficult to maintain a firing position before the German pilots overshot, plus the extreme low-level flight patterns of the 588th pilots made them very difficult to see in the first place. The unit was highly decorated, earning numerous citations for Hero of the Soviet Union, as well as dozens of Order of the Red Banner medals; most of the surviving pilots had, by war's end, flown nearly 1000 combat sorties and also took part in the Battle of Berlin.

They are influenced by soundtrack movies such as The Lord of the Rings and bands like Helloween with Michael Kiske, and Rhapsody of Fire. Awsome band, you should check out

Live at Wacken 2015 - I think that was when their drummer (Hannes Van Dahl) and Floor Jansen (lead singer of Nightwish, who also performed at Wacken 2015) made their daughter Freya. :-)
EDIT: Sorry, wrong year1 Freya was born on the 15th of March 2017, so it would have been June 2016 when she was conceived. Would also be too early for Wacken (which usually is in late July or early August). Must have been a different festival then, when the lucky "accident" happened. ^^
