    I worked in the gift shop back in the early 70s when it was in the old location at the end of Main St in Fairborn. During my breaks I would go back to the storage area and look around. It was not as big nor organized as in this video. Items were in crates and cardboard boxes, some without lids. There were lots of uniforms and WWI propellers. The coolest thing I ever saw was the XB-70 wind tunnel test model, which was about 3 feet long and looked to be made out of solid steel, though it could have been titanium. It was just sitting on top of a pile of boxes, like in your grandpa's attic. Never did pick it up, afraid I'd drop it. Glad to see everything being better taken care of. I wonder if they ever put that model on display.

    I'm brazilian, and this is my favorite place in the world. Have been there 2 times and need desperately to return more and more.

    Tremendous. Kudos to everyone involved in the production of this video. It was very well done - right down to the music and timing of shots. Loved seeing the behind-the-scenes footage and learning about some of the folks who take care of the artifacts. We owe a debt of gratitude to the folks who have defended our country over the years and to the creations and discovery the resulting technologies. Thanks for the video and for the people preserving these artifacts and memories.

    Amazing and truly incredible, I can think of no better words to describe the artifacts and pieces of American ingenuity and history stored there! To all the folks who make it possible there are no words to thank you for your dedication and great passion to not only preserving history but helping to make better technology for the Airmen of tomorrow's Air Force!

    Who can do anything but love and respect the men and women re/storing all of this stuff? we are losing all of the first hand accounts of the soldiers that used the equipment during their deployments due to age, so between the storage and restoration of artifacts, and some video accounts from the people that were there (ie: Captain Ken Curry) this Museum is doing such a fantastic job. (Dayton native btw, so ignore any bias) and never forget to visit the other sites in Dayton that inform and entertain to the immense history of aviation just from the Dayton area. Not to mention the amount of history from other industries that had their start here in the Miami Valley.

    When I first walked into the missile gallery and looked up at the Titan II missile it took me back to the first time as a young airman when I walked out on level 7 and looked 😊up. Saying I was awe stricken is an understatement

      If the trip to and from the museum is possible you can be a volunteer. There are actually volunteers that live in Indiana and commute to the museum, stay in a motel and do both days of the weekend shift and then go home. No previous military experience is required, all you need to be is over 18 years old and have a love of aircraft and people. Just go on the National Museum of the United States Air Force and fill out the application.

    As a former "zoomie" 1983-1997, I would love to work in the Museum; I have been building models and teaching aviation history not only to my fellow airmen, but now in civilian life as well - nothing would be better than to work to preserve these items for generations to come!

    I saw an AGM-69A SRAM sitting next to an F-111 ejection capsule . I worked on that weapon system during my USAF enlistment in the mid 1970’s .

    Does the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force loan artifacts to aviation museums? If so, who do they contact to get the item loaned?

    • @USAFmuseum
      @USAFmuseum  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +General Ripper1964 The museum's Collection Management Division oversees the Air Force Static Display Program for static display aerospace vehicles on loan to municipal corporations, counties, political subdivision of a State, servicemen's monument associations, a post of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States or of the American Legion or a unit of any other recognized war veterans’ association. For more information, call (937) 255-4770.

    Why won't the Airforce at least make eye contact with us Navy folk and say good morning, good afternoon, or good evening, etc...? (at NATTC Pensacola) It's like they are trained to not communicate with the pheasants of Navy and Marine Corps aviation personnel for some reason. Are they better than us? What is going on with y'all in the Airforce and what do y'all have against the other branches?? PLEASE clear this up if you are in the Airforce.
