  • The DEBATE IS ON! The Proper Way to Load a PUSH/PULL Road Scraper with a Dozer...
    I thought I would try my hand at road construction. My equipment is quite heavy, and all hydraulic and electric. Everything is radio controlled, of course. Some of them are quite complicated. These are the kind of Toys I have always wanted in MY sandpit.. what about you?
    What do you think of them?

      Ok ok I held my comments from the last video but since you asked for it here ya go. First, the picture displayed at the beginning of the video is indeed a dozer pulled pan however it is just the pan not a complete scraper, and it is being pulled from a 4 way pintle hitch not being pulled from the ripper shank of the dozer. Second, My family and I have been in the large scale grading industry in California for years and I currently manage a fleet of cat 637g scrapers and two cat d9r dozers. So besides just telling you your wrong here’s the best way I can think of to convince you. In full scale on the job site if you look at the height that a for example D9R dozer can lift its ripper shank it’s 25in (I measured as it’s close to the end of the day here in Cali) now if we walk over to the the front of a parked 637G scraper we will find that even with the hook fully lowered it’s at 39in from the ground. So in other words even on flat ground their is no physical way to pull one of our scrapers with the ripper shank of our dozers because the hook/ shank simply will not line up to allow a connection. Furthermore I showed my 63yr father (who has also been in the business his entire life) and when he saw the dozer hooked to the front of the scraper he quickly chuckled and said if that was real life the dozer operator would be sent home with his paycheck and be asked to never return to one of his job sites ever again. In conclusion, your playing with RCs so of course you can use them any way you like however when it comes to the full scale world the other operators in your comments section are correct a dozer should never pull a scraper from its ripper shank.

    • @wolf16731
      @wolf16731 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      What OffRoad101 said. In full scale you would never see that done on a job site. One because it just wouldn't work as he pointed out, but as I also pointed out it would be too time consuming.. and time is money in the real world. That's why the tail of the scraper is built the way it is, to be able to handle being pushed by a dozer. A dozer only has to line up as the scraper goes by and get behind him as the pan lowers and should catch up as the scraper slows down from digging in, and the dozer only has to push the scraper instead of backing up and hooking up each and every pull. When you consider how many pulls need to be done on a jobsite, you are talking about a lot of time saved by pushing.

    • @t74guard78
      @t74guard78 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well it sounded like there were many comments stating that pulling it isn't the right way to do it from those, like myself, who have or still do operate heavy equipment. That should be proof enough. Experience is all the proof you should need. Sure in the RC world you can pull it but even at that scale, it is still better to push it. In the real world, doing that would most likely result in breaking the ripper on the dozer. A very fast way to get yourself two checks and a trip to the unemployment office. I explained how it is suppose to work in my other comment. Smooth and easy which can't be done by pulling it nearly as well as by pushing it.

    "Just like the real thing!!" Part of rc'ing is being able to experiment doing stuff with the tiny vehicles that one would not attempt in real life... because we can!! If that involves grabbing hold of the front hook on a scraper with a dozer ripper then so be it :D :D even if some people only want to do it the right way in scale. I'm not judging!! Some people might judge me for NOT wanting to do all the 3D shenanigans with rc helicopters, not because it's too difficult (machine setup & lots of practice is key after all), but I choose to fly mine with only basic loops & rolls thrown in. Great vid as always, Aaron!

    Has no one ever seen the dozer-scraper combos? Before the days of self driver-scrapers the scraper box was hooked behind the dozer which allowed it to take bigger bites at the lower speed.
    When self-driving scrapers were introduced they took shallower cuts based on the compaction of the soil because they were using tires instead of tracks. The technique then became either pulling the self-drive scraper or pushing it from behind for the extra cut in harder soils.
    The scraper>scraper technique is for higher speed where the front and back cut at two different levels where the front can take a sharper cut with assist while the back takes a normal or finish cut.

  • @myrclife
    @myrclife 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    That first picture you showed is an actual pull behind scraper designed to be pulled behind a tractor or dozer. Your r/c scraper is a powered "driven" unit.(TOTALLY DIFFERENT) although i have been in a scraper and had a dozer help load me....but only pushing from the back. The ripper on the rear of the dozer would not raise up high enough to hook into the hoop on the front of a scraper. The front of each scraper has a hoop and a spring loaded pad...the hoop is to hook onto the rear of another scraper and be pulled to help load the pan... and the spring loaded pad is to push the scraper in the front to help load the pan. With this said....its all about having fun and even though its not normally done like this in real life dosent mean we cant do it with our r/c's! I dont see monster trucks climb trees, but my r/c monster trucks sure have a great time flying 15 feet up the trunk of a maple tree. Thats the beauty of r/c...you can do whatever your heart desires aslong as it makes you happy.

    For those who may not know, the reason scrapers are pushed by a dozer, instead of being pulled, is because of the difference in speed between the two machines. Scrapers haul material long distances across the jobsite at up to 35mph. With the dozer pushing from behind, it doesn't have to get out of the way once the scraper is full. More efficient = less time = more money.
    The loop in front is used to run two scrapers in tandem to combine the tractive power of both, with less need to be pushed by a dozer. On the RC jobsite, efficiency isn't as important, and the site superintendent can run the crews however the hell he wants to, lol.

    Sand is the hardest thing to load with a scraper, and makes completely closing the apron difficult if there is a stone in the way, it’s even the case on a full sized rig. Sand is so fine that it’ll fall out what ever opening is there. You should notice that if you ever put it into some clay that even if the apron won’t close all way the clay sort of packs into the opening and keeps the material in the bowl. I was happy to see you were able to get a full load by the end of the video, it would have been disappointing if the model was unable to actually get a full load. I hope you can put it in some clay and give her a nudge from behind sometime to see how the two materials load very different. I hate loading sand with a scraper.
