George was actually adding fuel to the fire because he did not have that level of maturity I believe as an officer only after Olivia was divorced that he seemed to get the message and this is a negative quality of a police officer. Olivia was dying and he did not sense it what a pity. Then again Eric's Parents with their bully-like principles are to be blamed for their son's misfortune

She should have brought this nonsense to her husband's attention very early when that fool started out in her office and even when her friend advised her to tell her husband what is going on she foolishly asked her if is to tell him that someone is bring flowers to her and stalking her etc. Her predicament now could have been avoided and the husband would have known how to approach the situation. In matters like this, you do not fight the battle singlehandedly.
