Nice sailboat for Sailing around the world. Many thanks for the video Warm greetings from the garden island of Kauai one of the most beautiful island on the planet. and one of the most expensive on the planet
Thanks for posting this video. Your tour was highly informative while not dragging with minutia, and your enthusiasm provided plenty of excitement for anyone even remotely interested in sailing, living aboard or just visiting someone who has a sailboat. I've been looking at sailboats around 40' LOA, and this provided many insights and ideas. Hopefully, some fine day, I'll be able to thank you personally.
Putera Usman Thanks - there are also several other boat tours in our 'Sailboat Tours/Visiting Friends' playlist at th-cam.com/play/PL030D43571D8D391F.html and many more coming soon!
Damn, some mean comments. I'd like to see it after they lived on it and run out of space quickly. Weekend boats aren't the same as a live aboard. Good video buddy. Great looking boat.
Wayne Williams Hi Wayne. Thanks for commenting. I'm puzzled that people don't seem to understand that all 3 of us were new to the boat. Gary had just flown over from Australia to take possession of this old used boat, Richard and I arrived as crew, and we pushed off a few days later and had a difficult offshore voyage to Florida. The tour video was made the day after we arrived, and the day before I flew back to North Carolina. I think if the mean commenters would just read the comments before commenting then they might understand. Thanks for sailing with us - we have a great Season 3 in works. Please stay tuned. :)
Hi PastNorwegianBlue, Thank you. Fellowship really is beautiful, and very seaworthy. I hope that she finds a good new owner. Gary and Rae put Fellowship up for sale in Florida and returned to Australia because of medical stuff.
For Richard A. The reason why you see so many cupboards and drawers is... space is very precious on board and its advantages to see what can be stored. Don't try and compare it to a house or condo as its one end of the spectrum to another. I'm going out on a limb here and tipping you don't own a boat...?
@Gary - Yes, Fellowship's interior was in a a bit of disarray because we had just arrived the day before from days at sea in some pretty rough weather too.. Also the owners had just purchased the boat and were still in the process of moving in and making her their home.. We were just on a mission to get the boat to Florida.. Thanks for watching! I hope you enjoy the upcoming Fellowship sailing videos!! Fair winds, calm seas, happy sailing!
@DanSails1 - me too!!! :) I can't wait to get Paragon going! We're now thinking of sailing from NC to NYC, Newport, Martha's Vineyard, Provincetown, Boston, Gloucester... then a hop to Lunenberg, Nova Scotia, another hop to Saint John's, Newfoundland, and then a big hop to Dingle, Ireland... Please stay tuned! We're working hard on finishing Paragon's refit and look forward to making our own boat tour in the Spring! Fair winds, calm seas, and happy sailing!
The boat is looking for a new owner.. The ad on the yachtworld website reads 'Due to medical developments, they are forced to leave this magnificent lifestyle and return to land.' There are also a ton of pictures in the ad.
Thanks CBilly91, she had a lot of love poured into her over those months she was in the States and the Bahamas and is, I believe, still looking for a new owner. She's a comfortable boat... cheers, mo
@tomperanteau, Thanks! :) We're about to start filming our next tour of a *** beautiful *** Swan 48 that we'll be sailing to Tortola, and we really look forward to making a tour of our own boat and home, a 1976 Westsail 42 named 'Paragon.' Please stay tuned! :) Fair winds, calm seas and happy sailing! - DrakeParagon
Sir Drake, You make Great videos Sir. Thank you for all of them. I really enjoy them. But I really must say. Dude there is not one square foot of space on that boat that is not a cluttered up mess. I mean seriously. Passage or not I suspect that that boat is always a mess. That said I would think that the tidiness of any sailing vessel offshore directly affects the safety of the vessel would it not? Trying to find your Epirb or flashlights or survival gear in an emergency when you only have seconds to react could be a diseaster. Not to mention the added "stuff" that would add to a fire if one broke out. And what about trying to swim through the flotsam if you ever went upside down? Anyway thats a beautiful boat under all the mess. Thanks.
Thanks Kim, our own boat (not the one in this video) can get quite cluttered. Year round living aboard, voyaging, working, renovating, etc... things can often get cluttered. It's a constant battle for us, and we're always trying to not accumulate any extra stuff because we just don't have any extra room. But I still don't get all the mean comments. The 30 year old boat in this video was new to all of us. None of us lived aboard. We literally first stepped foot aboard the boat a few days prior and then went to sea on a delivery...and had 2 weeks of hellacious offshore voyaging. Yet people watch the video and somehow think that we've lived aboard this boat for years.. And without reading the description, or the comments that have already been made, just want to write the meanest things... Ah well, the internet.. It remind me of the saying "You can please some of the people some of the time, but you can't please all of the people all of the time." Thanks for your comment. I'm glad you enjoyed the video and hope you enjoy our other (and especially our most recent) cruiser interviews and boat tours. :) Happy sailing and Fair winds.
@sailingcruiser - Gloucester is one of my favorite anchorages! We plan to anchor in Gloucester this Summer before sailing on to Newfoundland. Maybe we'll see you in the anchorage! Thank you for recommendations on Cuttyhunk and Lake Tashmoo, and for the info on Woods Hole too! Fair winds, DrakeParagon
Hi Giorgio, Those are absolutely beautiful boats, and I'm sure they're a joy to sail. But for long distance offshore sailing I personally prefer sailboats with skeg hung rudders.
@steven247 - Congratulations on getting your sail boat! I hope your sailing lessons are great! Fair winds, calm seas, happy sailing, and follow your dreams, for they have no expiration date!!! DrakeParagon
Just a tip. Next time you show a boat or house and you show the bathrooms ya might want to consider flushing and or clean out your toilet. Other than that it is a nice boat! Sadly I am looking for something a bit longer with more room. Thanks for the tour!
Thanks! :) I hope you enjoy the story about this boat that follows.. the tour was filmed on the day after we made port after a hellacious offshore voyage and we were all totally wiped out and exhausted. But it's a good story. :)
Thank for sharing the video. A great way to have a quality of life at a reasonable cost! How long did it take to realise you had made the right choice?
I never hear anyone talk much about the air conditioning, you mentioned it so I know this boat has ac. Do many boats have ac? I new to sailboats, still learning about them, haven't learned to sail yet but it looks like alot of fun. I'm long way from live a board, I'm getting a sailboat for freshwater (lake powell...) and want a fully functional "live a board" ready boat 30' or so that way I can spend a week or 2 on the lake and be ok. I would probably require ac most of the summer months tho. Thanks for any info you can throw my way. I'd love to retire on the ocean and do a live a board thing like that and sail around the world.
+Rich Miller Many boats do have a/c, but a/c requires so much electricity that you have to either be hooked up to a marina's shore power or be running your own generator.
+DrakeParagon's Real Cruising Life ok thank you for the info, I will keep that in mind. do you know if I would be able to bring in enough power with solar panels? I was thinking, while we're sailing and have the companion way open open we won't have the ac running cause it will just blow out so it would just be fore while we're at anchor.
+Rich Miller I really don't think that you could keep us with the power demand of air conditioning with just solar panels. I think you would need to run a generator for it. Or, many sailboats use wind scoops to catch the slightest breeze and send it through the cabin. They are awesome. www.defender.com/category.jsp?path=-1%7C5948&id=2290156
+DrakeParagon's Real Cruising Life oh ok cool. thanks for the information. by the way that's a beautiful boat you got there. thanks a lot for the tour. I really like the view out the window from the bed at the rear of the boat (sorry for the non boat terms, I'm still learning). That's my ultimate dream but I'm long ways away. I grew up on ski boats but never been on a sailboat. hopefully in the next year or 2 I'll have my first boat.
+y4ukickmydog Hey y4ukickmydog, Things may not always be as they appear. If you watch the Fellowship series you'll see that the boat was bought in the USA by an Australian. He flew from Australia to the USA, took possession of the boat, and then we did repairs, provisioning and all the preparation we could over the next 3 days before pushing off from North Carolina and sailing offshore to Florida. The boat was completely new to all of us aboard. This tour was filmed on the day after our arrival in Florida after a hellacious weather last day of offshore sailing. I hope you enjoy the series!
Howdy - I just bought a 1983 version - didn't have a chance to speak to the previous owner about critical systems. Can find a water or fuel gauge. Where are yours?
Hi Brett, Greetings from Reykjavik, Iceland where the weather is finally starting to warm up! We're getting ready to sail to the Faroe Islands. This video was filmed with a Panasonic point and shoot camera called the FZ-150. I like the point and shoot cameras made by Panasonic and Canon (SX50, G1X) because they autofocus on the fly, unlike the SLR cameras where you have to manually focus every time you move the camera.
DrakeParagon's The Real Cruising Life Thanks for the camera advice Drake. I'm learning a lot from your videos, your work is much appreciated. Safe travels to you and Monique. Super excited to see your new videos from Reykjavik, Iceland and the Faroe Islands !

DrakeParagon You mentioned that "I've been sleeping in the upper berth" so I call BS your reply my friend. But even if true, I don't want to watch the whole series and you didn't mention this at any point in the video. The fact is I was eating my evening meal while watching this video and when I saw that dirty toilet I felt quiet unwell.
What does sleeping in the upper berth have to do with anything? As I said, "This tour was filmed on the day after our arrival in Florida after a hellacious weather last day of offshore sailing." It was a 4 day voyage. I slept in the upper berth. What does that have to do with anything?
Why dont u clean it..its so slobby everywhere..take care of the boat and it will take care of u definately longer then if u dont maintain it.. I thought I was slobby dude youre boat looks like...a hobo living there..no offence

Hi FurryAnimal, a lot of people have made similar comments, but I don't think that anyone realizes that the new owner had spent all of about 2 days on the boat after flying over from Australia. It's not as if he had been living aboard for weeks. The other crew and I had hardly spent any time aboard her before we pushed off. Our goal was to get the boat from North Carolina where the owner purchased it to Florida where he would then have time to settle down and focus on the interior. I hope you enjoy the rest of the series. It was a heck of voyage. :) - Drake

Brilliant Mike, glad you enjoyed! There's much more to this series and, if you like boat tours, there are more of those as well. Fair winds to you! -M

Mick Scarborough She's a real offshore boat. I think suitable for sailing in any waters of the world.

Wow you last three posters have never been on a sailboat have you..that was a very tidy boat compared to most!!
Great vessel but what a cluttered mess. To me one of the benefits of a live aboard is living an organised tidy lifestyle.

Congrats on your purchase of a Vagabond 42. I’m not very familiar with that boat, as I was only just crewing on a short passage on one 15 years ago. 😊
Great boat. I could live very comfortable on her! Do you min me asking how much?
love the boat. wish it were mine
Nice tour Drake, thanks. I'm sure this has already been asked, but which video camera are you using? You get really great results.

ohhhh no !!!! clean this boat up LOL
Nice boat, many nice features I like, but you really need to clean that thing up...what a pig pen!!
If it's Yellow, let it mellow! Who wants to fill their grey water tank prematurely?!?!?!
Sweet!!!
What's this inboard outboard stuff?!?!?
At what part of the video?
DrakeParagon the hole video
Anyone else notice the red toy on the vanity? ;)
haha
It is a torch
wow. they don't take very good care of the boat. Messy. But nice.
Please try to keep it more clean and tidy my friend.

DrakeParagon just flush the toilet before filming next time my friend
Thanks for the feedback.
I'll pay you to clean your boat. lol
