I have a 2005 tl with a automatic. Way over 200k miles. Bought it used. And I'm here to tell you the automatic transmission does fine. As long as you treat it right. It'll take some abuse. But yes it's touchy
The measuring of horsepower was changed through the year so that's why it seems the 270 to 258 horsepower happened. It measured it at the crank instead of the wheels, I think.
Negative. It was revised due to the new SAE measurement standard for horsepower. Technically, the J32 made the same power but it was measure different.
Small corrections: model years 2004 to 2008, 2003 is 2nd Gen; Type-S is 256 ft/lbs of torque; all added goodies on the base manual were there on the auto Type-S; and most auto trans issues were on the 04-06, 07-08 were better (still not the best though). You can also get some decent amount of horsepower when you boost the car, all depends what you want to get. One in my car club got to around 450hp, but saw some get up to 700hp! (some vids on YT) One thing to mention in either the bad or ugly is the seat material. Leather on the outsides, vinyl on the perforated centers. The vinyl tends to crack fast enough if you don't care enough for it. Got an 08 Type-S and loved it since I bought it almost 6 years ago! Still beats the looks of some new cars today. These cars look great low to the ground :-P
I still owned my third generation Acura (‘07 TL w/Navigation) since New (Dec. ‘06). It has less than 90K miles, after 16+ years of ownership. I have had NO issues with my automatic transmission. I understand the back seat issue, only usable for Skis (1999 Accord EX allowed back sear fully down) There was one recall on steering back in 2008, but dealer resolved easily. As Honda/Acura age (versus mileage) - WATCH Rubber degradation (tires, belts, gaskets). For example, Changed Timing Belt a few years ago - based on Age (not mileage) - and it was proper decision, as deterioration was noted. Service techs at my dealer (and used car manager), constantly offer to buy my car (very clean, well-maintained). Back in 2006 I passed on the TL Type-S (and glad I did). Acura has struggled, in later generations, to recapture the Quality of this build.
Yea I want a 07 or 08 type’s because my 05 base trans is iffy sometimes and this is my second 05 base and the first one’s transmission felt a tad bit better.
I bought a 2006 base with navi and A-spec kit. Currently has 150K miles. My daughter who was born in 2008 will drive this car when she's ready. I think it looks good as is. The cracked dash and bluetooth issue should also be mentioned.
I’m 18 years old and looking to buy my first car and this all seems perfect for me👀 all everything about this car seems perfect for me😂 Love you’re videos man definitely learned a lot watching them and still am
I have a 04 TL. Bought it used and the previous owner took great care of it which i saw on carfax. I love this car and if something goes wrong with this car i see myself getting the 07 or 08 Type S. I feel good about my car parked next to other newer cars.
I have an 04 TL and I had to get to trans rebuilt and now I need a new AC compressor. That sucks but I LOVE this car. It is so comfy and rides like a dream. I'll get the compressor replaced but after that, I'll just buy a new one. But I love Acura. Thanks for this video too!
The 270 horsepower came from a test that gave false numbers for whatever reason and if you put first year car on a track with a last year car, it would be pretty much the same.
All your suggestions and critics are very good Im an owner of a types 2008 white diamond pearl and I love it cuz it’s modded internals and boosted making close to 500 u can boost on stock internals up to 400 450 pushing it and mines is sitting on rays 57 cr bronze 2 . But overall I agree with you bruh ! Good video
Nice video but just wanted to point out that base TL horsepower number was bumped down not because it was any different, the measurement of horses was updated
@@mrdave777 it’s in good condition mechanical and cosmetic wise , has the cracks on the dashboard, and I little rip in the leather seats , also the inside is clean enough to be on a used dealer lot
A lot of the bad things you pointed out are things I’m fine with, and the unreliable transmission isn’t a problem for me because I’m currently driving an old Nissan with a cvt so imma buy one of these

Almost 2 years with my TL. This car has made me smile on my commute to work on a daily basis. All about the smiles per hour.
What year do you have? I heard it's recommended to have the 07 or 08 model because of the transmission, and I can drive auto only. 😅

1:19. They didn't change the HP output, gov changed the way HP was rated in 2006. This affected all vehicles.

In 2007-2008 the transmission form the RL was put in those year TLs. If you're looking for an automatic TL without a glass trans, get those years
