I want to be a research psychologist, and your videos are so intriguing it makes me want to do studies and research on what social media really does to your body. I love your videos
Make sure you keep it up, we need people to make sure this is investigated and inform people. We need to be together and united where we stand, not fearful and divided because of skewed narratives from social media that radicalize your world view, when it’s so much broader than that
I suffer from mean world syndrome. My therapist calls it borderline personality disorder. I don't let it control me by smoking marijuana. Which in turn makes me controlled because without a university degree I am doomed to never have a disposable income. I don't think there is some overshadowing organisation that does this. But I do agree that we continue to propel it as individuals. But maybe the worst part is that employers want to control their employees. They want better profits and they can definitely get it by distributing catchy slogans that obscure the truth. Once one does it, they all have to. That is how we propel this as individuals. Greed and our interpretation of "fairness". Be careful of any place of employment that boasts a "family" style environment. They use your guilt to make you exceed your limits and they aren't going to pay for the therapy. Physical or otherwise.
Often people who have a grim and exaggerated perspective on the world just make it worse for the people around them. It’s important to remember that hopeful, caring, and modest people make for the betterment of society as a whole. Good video.

I've found that not having a television has been pretty beneficial to me, in general. Are there other stressors in my life? Of course! I think that's the point, tho... Realizing that I'm in full control of what I'm consuming. If I want to take a month-long break from social media, I do it. If I don't want to stay glued to a 24-hr news cycle? I won't... I'M in control. WE'RE in control of what we consume. Remember what's been said: this a war for our ATTENTION, folks. If we stop giving them what they want, they'll have no choice but to switch it up.

I've just started my career as a clinical psychologist and one of the things that have striked me the most is how a lot of people with depression or high levels of anxiety tend to actively avoid watching the news because it tends to make them feel much worse. I assume it must have something to do with this you just mentioned here of an already hiper activated alarm system
As a children’s cognitive behavioural therapist I can count on the fingers of one hand the amount of kids I have worked with over the past 5 years who aren’t addicted to their phones and social media. I dread to think what some of them watch on their feeds and how it must affect them
It used to rarely happen to me when I was younger. After I went through different events in my life, I started to change the type content I want to take from it. Now, I obtain the type of information I want and I don't spend so much time on the popular ones.

Yes, my PhD therapist years ago that I went to see for my generalized anxiety told me that watching the news is the worst thing you can do. Our minds can't differentiate between time or space (physics), that's why there's studies on reporters who just wrote about conflicts/war and found that they developed PTSD even if they never set foot in a conflict zone
People are telling me that I am getting uninformed about the world by not watching the news. I can just say two things to them. 1.) My mental health is in much better place since I stopped watching the news. Having depression because of the trauma I experienced is bad already. Do I really need to be reminded that there are people who are having it worse than me every day? Some people are telling this to us, not realising that it make us feel worse and not better. Instead of being happy the things are not worse for us, we become sad because we have compassion to this complete strangers we can not help. 2.) If the news are important, they will find a way towards me. They always do. If the war breaks down, you can be certain I will know it in three hours max. The fact that the news are triggering to so many other people and not just just me is quite dangerous when you think just a little about it. What if something really important happens, matter of life and death and we are not having anyone to tell us that on time? What if we decide to vote for someone we would never vote for if we knew something really important, because we were ill informed, so that person becomes the next Hitler? What if there was something said on the news, warning us about some quite dangerous people, and we did not know it because no one told us? This things probably won't happen to the most of us that don't watch the news, but there will always be someone who will tragically stay uninformed.

Great Video. I am a subscriber from India, and although I did not think of the "social media giving more negative over positive news" thing, I did realise that it was a huge distraction for me. I only use three social media apps - TH-cam, Reddit and WhatsApp. The first two were very addictive, due to the recommendations page. I don't use TikTok because it's banned in India (this 🤡 moment was unlocked 2 years ago) (tbh I never used it, even when it wasn't banned). I have been somewhat successful in beating this addiction, I installed a chrome extension that hides all the recommendations, even the explore tab, whenever I open YT for no particular reason, I can only see if I have any notifications from any subscribed channels. 07:08 I am not really much into consuming any news content, I only see one yt channel for news every Sunday - he mentions the normal news (which usually contains some negative or bad incident), some weird/hilarious incidents that can only happen in my country 🗿, and the positive news - usually about steps taken to reduce global warming, how some people helped the needy or how some people came up with innovative solutions to problems. And I have to admit, I am into the normal news almost always, and that makes me feel somewhat guilty☹.
khabresh is not actually the "news" source that he is talking about, he is more kind of entertainment, but regardless if you use internet there is no need of watching any other news than khabresh cause we will get to know about important news anyways
Yeah I've noticed that tbh. I moved to the UK and although every said its bad, it really isn't and its nice that the media expands outside of the country. For starters, you have no idea just how much the USA regulates for their media. Its actually insane, the different of news. But I've never really been scared of the world, or thought that it was really dangerous. I mean its dangerous for me to go on walks late at night by myself, I've been told however my city is really safe so I don't feel danger at night. After Trump was elected it made me so sick reading all the hate on social media that i stopped going on facebook and its the best thing I ever did. I never was much of a fan of consuming any kind of News because i saw through what they were doing a long long time ago. I am not a very political minded person. I dont agree with most of what both main parties stand for so I do not vote for either. What I see from looking in from the outside is most people who are all of a sudden very political are extremely ignorant by choice. They refuse to question anything they are told and blindly believe in only one side and its a very sad thing to see
Yes, best to watch what you consume. A bad content diet basically equals a distorted perception. If there's one thing you want balanced and rational it's your perception.
I agree, I commented on this video about it. It entails finding reliable information by your own. The big data is endless and only consuming the common content social media offers is average.
The media sometimes gives us information like gossip, and people will decide which person is moral and immoral from the gossip. I think it will ultimately drive us away from what Nietzsche called “Will to Power,” because people will think more about morality, especially of other people, then they think they are good enough without realizing their weakness.

That is why, to avoid being mislead, do not take everything for granted. No harm in being skeptical or at least seeking further conformation to something. Some claims no doubt deserve to be taken with a grain of salt instantly. Unfortunately a good portion of the population does not do this frequently. Also it is no secret the media divulged mainly bad. It is often more interesting. So no surprise they would focus mainly on so. But there is plenty of good in the world too. We are often just utterly aware of countless instances that would restore our faith in humanity. But it does transpire nonetheless
And that's the thing, while the obsessive algorithm of social media will show you what's the best post to be shown on the timeline based on your interests, social media also has the tool that let you control which post you want and don't want to see, in Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, even youtube, you can hide the unsettling / negative post and tell the app you don't want to see it. It takes a few week until the timeline readjust based on your new, tailored, and more controlled interest. you got the control over the social media, dont let social media controls you.

I want to be a research psychologist, and your videos are so intriguing it makes me want to do studies and research on what social media really does to your body. I love your videos
Make sure you keep it up, we need people to make sure this is investigated and inform people. We need to be together and united where we stand, not fearful and divided because of skewed narratives from social media that radicalize your world view, when it’s so much broader than that
It's great to see the world waking up and seeing the real world...
Physical or otherwise.
dude. you're a blessing.
Thank you for talking about like ... meaningful things, you know
I'd love to go back to being a kid In the 90s, simpler times
Same. Life wasn't so........extreme.
Yeah man. Most people who lived as a young person back then would agree.
Every single person from a third world country wouldn’t want that, lol.
Twitter is for looking up memes, jokes and humorous stuff. Don't use social media as news.
It's just sad how if all of this effort was done for the good and not just material business the world would have been better for everyone.

Often people who have a grim and exaggerated perspective on the world just make it worse for the people around them. It’s important to remember that hopeful, caring, and modest people make for the betterment of society as a whole. Good video.

I'm always glad to have a reminder that often no news is good news and bad things are more interesting to read about
Every one needs to see this.
Wtf! I was researching for this Topic and suddenly Apperture's video pops out. What a coincidence. This is 5th time it's happening with me.
Here's what I Found what Today's Media is doing:-
•Seeking TRP.
•Not Spending time on Research nor doing documentaries on it.
•Choosing Communal and hate topics, cuz of attention span.
•Puppet of Rulling(specially) or Opposing Party(Neutrality has left da chat).
•Not asking question to Gov.
•FACT is replaced by one sided OPINION based narrative.
And some more I might have left.
Wow. Thank you man. I’m so glad I found your channel
So true! It’s ok to check the facts on the news or social media are true and take the information with a grain of salt. I like to look for evidence on how true the facts are based on and go from there.
As a Ukrainian, I want to say - media does not make war look worse, it really is that horrible. Especially if you live on the east, cities get bombed regularly.
But I think author is mostly right about media's lies...
That was beautiful Aperature. If I was a grown man, that would probably make me cry. We should go back to stories like that instead, us kids being fed more bad than good doesnt help us when being out in society
@@Glasstable2011 I am a building instructor at a middle school. Children today CANNOT function without technology. They rely on tech for everything. You take away their phone in class and can watch an eighth grade student throw a fit like a 5 year old child. I mean on the floor kicking and crying.

In addition, the pharmaceutical industry provides more medication than ever before on a global scale, and each drug can have its own individual effect on a person's perception of reality. Observe don't absorb.
Most people laugh about this. But I was and still am able to train my social algorithms in such a way that they only show me stuff I want to see. It's wonderful. And every time I see an untrained algorithm it gives me chills.
You should write a book on how to train algorithms, in today's world I'm sure it would be a bestseller.
But with a trained algorithm tailored to your taste and views, isn't it sort of like an echo chamber of your own thoughts and views? Genuinely curious as I am on the other side, trying to fill up my page with content that challenge my views so that I can expand my knowledge and trying to see the "real" world view.
@@volvobok6644 that is a very fair point. But I am really happy to only see my preferred topics show up. If I feel like expanding my spectrum then I go to twitter. Thanks for your comment ☺️

You sure..... these algorithms have just figured out your taste. And you just re-enforce that training by clicking on the stuff you want to watch it's not about "training" the algorithms it's more about steering clear of them. They are designed to show you what you want and to keep you on that platform because the longer you're there the more money is made in some form or shape via advertising or just by keeping you away from the "competition" and honestly moderation is the key nowadays as it's almost impossible to stay away

I have been called a know it all or brainwashed by my mother for questioning where she got her information from. We are in a proper paradox and i just can’t see a way to show people “understanding” even this video wouldn’t break the glass of some who truly believe we live in total truth and evil can’t possibly exist anymore. People don’t know where to find truth anymore and most wouldn’t know how to define truth. This is very troubling a killing of the mind, living zombies and they think their conscious of what they are doing and if you show them a mirror they can’t look directly at it. For a ghost casts no reflection see even if they could see the reflection it wouldn’t look wrong or outta place to them… are we facing a new banality of evil?

And I have to admit, I am into the normal news almost always, and that makes me feel somewhat guilty☹.
what is the chrome extension
Most of the news is fake. You don't need to absorb that crap.
What chrome extension
@@Nishantpatale9423 the name of that extension is Unhook, it's weird that I replied 2 times but I can see none of them here
khabresh is not actually the "news" source that he is talking about, he is more kind of entertainment, but regardless if you use internet there is no need of watching any other news than khabresh cause we will get to know about important news anyways
I never really paid any attention to media, believing its all a scam, and I see now, in a way it is.
How is england better than America? It’s smaller
Jesus I want to get the hell out of the UK. Went to Paris for the first time and everyone said it was bad it wasn’t, I fell in love with the place, now this is my goal to move their by 25. Weird how we have the same thought of just wanting to get away from our own country.
If you have a TV, throw it out your window like a Rockstar would from a 10th story motel.

They refuse to question anything they are told and blindly believe in only one side and its a very sad thing to see
Thank you for that insightful well presented reminder. A simple easily implemented idea like this can change the world.
Yes, best to watch what you consume. A bad content diet basically equals a distorted perception. If there's one thing you want balanced and rational it's your perception.

I agree, I commented on this video about it. It entails finding reliable information by your own. The big data is endless and only consuming the common content social media offers is average.
thank you!
The media sometimes gives us information like gossip, and people will decide which person is moral and immoral from the gossip. I think it will ultimately drive us away from what Nietzsche called “Will to Power,” because people will think more about morality, especially of other people, then they think they are good enough without realizing their weakness.

How do they profit from this lies and why does it becomes a matter of life and death for those journalists whose quest is to share the truth ad it is?
The quest for journalists is to create a story the media machines will want to broadcast. Not to find the truth
@@sb2h then why do journalists get killed every year? It's because they're searching for the truth and people hiding it don't want it out.
While there are a lot journalists who only search for stories that will get popular, regardless of content or truthfulness, I do not agree with your generalisation.

@@Mcsnickers_7 popularity let me know what the majority thinks, and if they agree with sb2h171 more than ruileite4579, then we're in trouble. this means they all truly believe that all journalist are evil and can never be trusted, so even if the truth were to come out, it'll just fall into deaf ears. then no action will be taken, and no action means no change
It takes a few week until the timeline readjust based on your new, tailored, and more controlled interest.
you got the control over the social media, dont let social media controls you.
this is absolutely correct. 💯
