    Surprising to see Erik using such a light gauge for this tuning. I probably would use at least 13-64 If I was to tune in A# standard.

    • @jeffarab4947
      @jeffarab4947 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is not too bad still easy for riffs and shred i use same gauges 56 or 60 to 12

    • @padraig88
      @padraig88 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I play in A standard on a 24.5" and usually go for D'addario EXL which are 14-68 but my songs don't require the same amount of super fast picking and leads.

    • @JoaoSergio7
      @JoaoSergio7 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I could probably get away with using 12's for the top strings, but I don't think I could use 60 for such a low tuning. Well, I use 13-60 in C# standart in a 24.75 scale (Erik uses 11-56 for this tuning) and I still find the bottom strings kind of floppy, but I don't play with the same speed and intensity as Erik does

    Badass. Still have my '86 Ironbird (white, all black hardware) I bought myself for my 17th birthday in 1991 for $180. Had to replace the Kahler because one of the string saddles broke trying to hold a 70 gauge string. Original Dimarzio Super Distortions in the neck and bridge. Strap locks is the only thing I've added over the years. Also have a black '95 in the process of rebuilding.

    @4:11 the 3rd saddle of the floyd rose seems to be further away from the others as if there is a third hole for the intonation screw to screw on.
    My floyd only has two screws (like you got on 1st and 2nd string). Are my observations correct?

    • @GranvilleGuitars
      @GranvilleGuitars  5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      There are no absolutes when it comes to intonation in any situation. As it happens taking this guitar from where it was to where it is left the saddles in prime position for perfect intonation. No saddles were harmed in the setup of this guitar.

    Some years back I was using Ab -tuning (like a 7 string tuned half step down) on a BC Rich V and I had to go thicker than a .60, I think I settled on .70 - but the issue I kept hitting was the high strings were too loose or too taut. I was using the Cannibal/Nile tuning sometimes dropped the low string (like a drop D). I doubt I'd go back & would prefer a multi-scale/fanned fret guitar.
    Nice video, got to see him with CC back in Nov '19 - best guitar sound I've heard live; thick, dense & articulate.
