This soft swedish man sings and plays trombone as i never heard before. I`m in heaven. Even listen to his record , Ballads, and "You stole my heart". Heavenly!
Wow! R.I.P. Michael Breacker and Esbjorn Svensson! I was blessed to have seen Michael live once, but not Esbjorn. It was one of the best concerts I've ever been to. Such giants of music all of these guys are! The light and the music they brought into this world will never be forgotten. The world became a better place because of them. Since I am on this note, R.I.P. Michael Jackson, a superstar like no other.
This is the only TH-cam video of Michael Brecker that i came to watch played this song live. He originally played sax in the original recorded album version. Everytime i watch James played this song with another sax player i always expect to hear the sax player to at least be loyal to the original melody of the original sax solo. But of course musicians always have differet takes to the music that they were asked yo play so.....
@BennOliverr Foreign? This is the WORLD WIDE WEB fool... And he's from Sweden, along with the pianist and the bass player - one of the great jazz countries in europe.
Nils is such a great musician and has an increadible taste in music,..I enjoyed his concert so much! But he's not a singer, just hasn't got the voice :)) I enjoyed Rigmor Gustaffson singing on their album!
I had the exact opposite reaction. I think he is a fantastic, connective singer - singing it simple is just what I wanted to hear. Each to their own I guess…
If you like this, then you should hear the version that Michael Brecker actually recorded on his "Nearness of You" Album, which featured the original artist-James Taylor, singing it. This is a nice version, but James Taylor singing his own masterpiece, is like 20 times better.
Almost cried when I heard this.. as I for a moment had forgotten about Esbjörn Svensson's passing. Truly a great loss for Swedish jazz.

Musically inspiring, I do understand the questioning of Nils singing , I get it! He is basically pleading/begging nearly in tears singing.
I hate jazz but when I heard this for the first time I was overcome. It is the best version of this song I have heard.
The best of contemporary jazz.
i can't realise you're in the sky Mr Brecker...i miss you...
thanks Mr. Taylor !!
This is great ! You would never think that Nils can sing but this is good ! and Brecker has such beautiful tone !
Just so beautifull

Michael Brecker

Of course thats the nice thing about freedom of speech that even ignorant people ( like me ) can express an opinion) :)

It is not a contest.....
9 people obviously have no ears
'not a singer' Oh come on!
パットメセニー・・・なんかやってた?
Well, he's got the expression and the ear,..but the voice is weak and I don't like his voice colour. Just my humble opinion.
froggy

Brecker is amazing but the singer sucks big time. Where's James Taylor.
