- The 2024 Maastricht Debate was the political moment of the spring for European voters. We put eight candidates in line to lead Europe onstage to answer your questions - to help voters decide how to cast their ballot.
Each contender for the office of chief policymaker of the European Union represented their own political party on the podium in Maastricht, the birthplace of the 1992 Maastricht Treaty that established the European Union. Candidates answered questions from our expert moderators on the themes chosen by European youth.

Brought to you by Studio Europa Maastricht & POLITICO.
The Maastricht Debate is supported by Maastricht University, Province of Limburg, City of Maastricht and the European Parliament.

Why has this Not been broadcasted in Public Television of the Europe Union member Staates?! Old ones will Not search the Internet and watch this. Thats a real pity.
Because they dont want anyone to see it duh lol
@@danieldinicola4605 because no one is interested and national tv channel do not want to pay the rights to broadcast it because they dont gain enough money from it....... probably
Eurovision songfestival was mutch interesting😂😂😂😂
They want just the money from the Eu taxpayers.Wolves.
It is written at the Maastricht Debate website, that "EBU’s Eurovision News Exchange will distribute the feed of the Maastricht Debate live to its public service media network of members." The way i read it - public televisions got the signal. But chose not to broadcast it.
Now, the EBU will have their own debate that (hopefully) will be broadcast live by all members in the EU... Still - a 4 European parties were not invited, and time selected for the debate is 15:00 (a dead time for the television)
It'd really have helped if the stands the candidates stood behind had their parties and names on it instead of STUDIO EUROPA maastricht and POLITICO.

24 hours after the debate only 26 000 people across Europe watched it (at least in part). That is the real state of how much society gives a shit about people operating within the European Commission. They are still treated largely as a no-name technocrats, and the elections are run mostly on domestic issues.
i mean there was little to no advertisement of this and i dont even think it was broadcasted on national TVs, so what could they expect?
There was just no promotion about the event. Even here in Germany, while having a couple Germans on stage no big new outlet put it on the front page. Stuff like this should be prime time TV on the state owned/supported channels.
@@KZ-tk3if With or without advertisement, I think European politics just get little attention in general. It's less relatable, because even though we share issues, these things are still very personal and different depending on region etc.
@@BilboBaggins236I think we don’t know about it because they know that broadcasting these events would only make Europeans dislike more Europe, because we need to be treated as different, because that’s what we are. The EU is not sustainable

and give more than 45 seconds per speech. What can you deliver in 45 seconds?! Poor organisation, really.
Wow, the Dutch green & progressive wins the poll hosted before an audience of Dutch students; how surprising!
Regardless of the preformance of candidates, it really doesn't take a lot of skill to predict who was going to win such a poll.
Even less surprising because most of the time these 'students' are only university students xd
Well it’s somewhat surprising if you look at the last Dutch elections where there was an alt right win
@@LeDraaier Yeah, but with that it is important to consider the fact that the average PVV voter is usually old(er) and/or lower educated. GroenLinks-PvdA however did very well among students.
It more so shows how different demographic groups vote differently, rather than political trends.
Maastricht students are the most international, actually
Well the students see that this (Green) is the best way for the future. They have that right.... do they not?
how is it possible that i find out about this only two weeks later?! This needs to be broadcasted everywhere in Europe. Are there any other debates in the next weeks? Please do better at marketing and publicity.

Having this debate is great and all but the themes chosen are really not the most important. We need to talk about demographics/migration, economic growth/energy independence, developing our own military industrial complex so that we can stand on our own.

Ursula Vanderleyden speaks about democracy and unity, and how "they" will build on their last five years. Her record speaks louder however, and clearly demonstrate the authoritarian rule of the the EU under her leadership. She supports the war with Russia and speaks of more licencing to deal with the distribution of agricultural produce. NATO and the EU are doubling down on their stance on rejecting a diplomatic settlement with Russia. More regulation is how they deal with the problems they have created with their climate policies. Only Anders Vistisen had the courage to speak up against the autocracy of the current EU and its failed policies on security, climate, and immigration. Most candidates continue to pander to the younger voters who have been indoctrinated by the climate change cultists and and lack the courage to speak the truth about climate change.
Why is the ECR party not there?

It can be seen overall that 3 parties debated on situation based instead taking rigid stance on the horseshoe arc - 1. Christian Party (ECPM), 2. Peoples Party (EPP) and 3. Renew Party (ALDE). The rest seems aligned strictly towards Greener ways or extremism. EU as a whole and the representatives in the panel should learn the distinction between "EU citizens in e.g. Sweden" and "christians/jews in e.g. Sweden" - the difference is that the first is acceptable and treats thoughts/opinions as private right while the second is an unacceptable labeling that deserves ridicule and not compassion.
It's sickening that a person living in one of EU member states doesn't have the feeling and is represented as EU citizen first, national of a certain member state second and far down the importance list where he/she/it was born, where the ancestors came from and what labels the person has the fetish of associating with.
If you live in Germany, you're a German and should live as such or if you can't stop preferring and over glorifying your roots leave as such.
55:00 is the right question and the only question that really matters and exposes the hypocrites within Europe. Wake up before its too late.

We have to discuss more on social issues! Europe gets everwhere extreme expensive.
There is no such things as a climate crisis
Q from the panel leaders: what are you going to do to meet the climate goals? So, not, there seem to be some issues w current climate policies. What direction should the EU go? They look upon climate measures as a given. To say that is narrowminded does not come close to reality..

Maylis is such an impressive woman. I really hope she become a great role in the European Parliament!
They should have done it like in the US. How come that I as an EU citizen know more about the US candidates and elections than I know about the EU ones? It is not like I have no interest in politics, but simply the issue that these candidates and the whole program has no interesting profile. And another issue was how this program was organized! 30 seconds speaking time and each candidate has 1 minute introduction time, and the introduction happens in the middle of the debate. Topics are thrown into it and answers are too abstract. This was pure chaos to watch.
Not many will truly care beyond the noise or bubbles 😢

European MEPs: Why has energy sector, which was built purely with taxpayers' money, i.e. hydropower and nuclear power, been run down and transferred to the hands of big capital, like the wood processing industry. Which do not need energy BECAUSE THEY PRODUCE THEMSELVES energy in excess of their own use.
Both P.., V... and K.. sell electricity to their owners at cost price. The actual cost price is 0.5 - 1.0 cents per kWh. These companies and all counterpower and district heating companies that also produce electricity get district heating on top of the sale. Only a heat exchanger is needed instead of a condenser.
In addition, it is clear when you compare the power (MW) in relation to the output (TWh) that you notice that, for example, V.. runs at 40% short load.
This is a fact. It would not be worthwhile to try to deceive those who understand the field.
Why would nature be of interest to MEP S when they are not interested in the most important thing, i.e. money? None of the future MEPs participating in the European elections are interested in the fact that European workers bear the majority of the tax burden, i.e. 7,000 billion euros?
Why don't the players in the derivatives trade (with a volume of 452,900 billion euros) pay enough tax on the 6% average profit they receive? The tax collection (1.9%) would generate a whopping 8,000 billion euros.
Why don't those who already have all of our money and capital want to participate in society's obligations?
Before, at the beginning of the 20th century, when the industry was being built, the factory owners built the apartments, hospitals, schools and pensions THEMSELVES with their own money, although even that money was collected thanks to the employees.
Doesn't the truth no longer apply that what is not right or reasonable cannot be law?

The election of the president of commission should be a direct election like those in the U.S.
Agreed!
At least it should depend mainly on the election result and not be decided by the member states' governments.
it would make no sense since most of the Europeans dont really give a damn about EU political structure, and dont even know the names of the main political parties. election turnout would have been disastrous.
We are not americans we are european we need a strong parlament and insted of direc voting the president .

But what if parliament and council can't agree on a candidate? Then it would be convenient to have a definitive ruling by the public.
And I doubt you could expect the council to concede basically all it's legislative power to the parliament.
we all know these are not the main subjects europeans will vote on, it's insane that migration is not one of them, let alone defense and sovereignity.
The EU(SSR) is implementing the devilish and dastardly Coudenhove-Kalergi plan to eradicate the European people and replace them with an Afro-Asian one ready to work for the proverbial bowl of rice for its capitalists and at the same time destroy the European workers and everything they had obtained through great fights and sacrifices.
