I used to work security all night long... Everyday, 12 midnight to 6 am. I had an entire tire plant to myself. Made an xtra 13k that year so I could pay my mortgage. Worked an 8 hour job during the day. I used to play this song (among other MH greats) over the intercom and ride the forklift crazily all over the 200,000 sq ft of the place. Best time of my life.....
Mike,I use to shut a Factory /Warehouse down everynight by myself. For about 4 Hours after everyone was gone,I'd have WSM650 Radio-Eddie Stubbs, blasting every nite. This was when Eddie, just joined WSM,late 90s. I black employee walked in one night, said what the hell you doing.what are you listening, too ? I said,"Country Music.
Merle Haggard has always been my favorite country artist my wife and I were in Florida and I was chilling out the day he died heard it on the TV set there and cried rest in peace Merle
l agree with you, indeed Merle Haggard is a great and talented artist who's songs never goes out of style,he's one of my favorites artist, he's songs still and always heals the Soul, I pray God gives you lot of beautiful days.
40 plus years on this earth and I still seem to be living this song. Every time I hit the road this song pops into my mind. A great songwriter like Merle makes you feel like he wrote the song for you. The Working Man's Poet is one of the greatest talents ever to exist in any genre of music. Thank you Hag for all the wonderful music you left us and for providing a soundtrack to many of our lives! Long Live Merle Haggard!
I used to do open mike at a local bar, pre covid. One time, the bartender asked me if I did Hag. Next time , I sang "Mama Tried," and said, "the ironic thing is that I spent last night in jail." ( No life without parole though )
l agree with you, indeed Merle Haggard is a great and talented artist who's songs never goes out of style,he's one of my favorites artist, he's songs still and always heals the Soul, I pray God gives you lot of beautiful days.
I am blown away by just how talented this dude is. The clips of him and his band in the earlier period before he grew a beard and became more real, were damn good - very accomplished musos. But later he blossomed and its sometimes surprisingly difficult to tell if you are listening to a country singer, a bluesman or a big band type jazz band
This is probably played with a backing track, since Pop music shows want their performers play using backing tracks. If this was live, Merle could've improvised a bit
Merle was a great performer compared to others in his time. Now with the phony so called country music, you want to puke when you hear the modern shit. Steel Guitar required
This song and era is possibly the height of his musical career. Singers like me who learn from his voice and his phrasing are just in awe of his immense charismatic style. Ramblin Fever is not an easy song to perform,. There a sections that are very different and require great interpretation -Also note he's playing his iconic Telecaster in this song, and even though he's not a true guitar player, session players would probably give him a passing grade on his solo here. There's only a handful of musicians since Bach, that are musically emulated like Merle.

I NEEVER HEARD COU TRY MUSIC IN KENYA[E.A.] IF,I KNEW SUCH BEAUTIFUL VOICE EXISTED,I WOULD HAVE COME 2 USA,JUST 2 LISTEN 2 HIS MUSIC.SORRY ,HE PASSED AWAY.LOVE U MERLE.🦓🐘🦏🦓♥️
I like how his guitar solos are so melodic and compliment the song, so many kids on you tube just string a load of scales together and play really fast, sure they're good but they're clueless about how to use all that (too much) info. I prefer this guys approach
One of the original outlaws of country music. Outlaw Country music originated on the west coast, not Austin but Bakersfield, California and Los Angeles. Waylon, Willie, and the Austin outlaw country came later. Nothing wrong with that just laying down a little history. I should know, I was there. Thank you for these videos. I hardly watch network TV anymore now that I have TH-cam. Guess you could say that's my network now.!
Never have I heard the artists of Bakersfield Sound of Country music referred to as Outlaws. Buck Owens, Haggard, Red Simpson. Waylon Jennings was the first to publicly 'buck the system' using his own band members to record his albums. Thus breaking a contract between RCA and their session players.

Undoubtedly one of the coolest people of all time. And somehow still underrated. Definitely on my troubadour Mt. Rushmore. I still pledge allegiance to the Hag.

I'm trying to figure out where the second lead guitar is coming from. Merle wasn't playing that most audible solo at the end. You can hear his solo underneath though if you listen closely.

By far, Merle was the greatest country musician! His voice is outstanding, so rich! He has a huge list of great songs.

He makes it look so easy. A true professional. These cream puffs today don’t hold a candle to the Hag.

I get emotional when I hear this song.
I remember the good times. And I think the good times may really be over for good.

We Will always Love Mr Merle & His 4 Sons. Especially
Noel Lee & Ben Lewis Haggard
The greatest singer songwriter and badass guitar player that ever lived hands down!!!!!!
One of my favorite Haggard tunes. I remember listening to it driving to work around 1978.
I DIDN'T REALIZE HOW HANDSOME MERLE WAS & THE VOICE 2 MATCH! JUST GREAT!!🎁
GOD BLESS MERLE, HE IS MISSED!!
This song describes my dad so well. He was a trucker. I hardly ever saw him up to his death in 1982.
Lovely story Jeff

Merle died on his bus. God bless him. What a life. What a career and what a VOICE!! AMERICAN GREATNESS!!!
Accurate talk.
he died while being treated in a hospital.
The hagg is the best our great country has blessed with!!
The two singing background behind him are Merle's Wife Bonnie and Songwriter Red Lane singing back up and playing guitar.
The kind of Country music that is to be respected. Alongside Ernest Tubb, The Carter Family, Hank Snow, Hank Williams (Senior) and other greats.
Merle and Conway are my fave country singers
l agree with you, indeed Merle Haggard is a great and talented artist who's songs never goes out of style,he's one of my favorites artist, he's songs still and always heals the Soul, I pray God gives you lot of beautiful days.
Nothing short of excellent!!!
Handsome man! Love and respect the Hag's music!
He reminds me of Warren Beatty
One of the Best.. This song was released on Merle's 1977 album titled the same...Ramblin' Fever.
Great song sung with feelin' by Merle with a great solo at the end.
Hes kinda holding back in this video... this is a guy with born talent. On his worst day he was better than almost everone else....
How come that Merle looks like Clint Eastwood playing a Fender Telecaster guitar??
I am blown away by just how talented this dude is. The clips of him and his band in the earlier period before he grew a beard and became more real, were damn good - very accomplished musos. I cant think of Merle's lead guitarist's name but he is the one laying down those amazing licks. He is phenomenal!

My dad's favorite country music artist. He's up with Merle now, but I'm down here thinking of one and listening to another.

Roy Nichols is playing the main parts and Merle is doing some harmony while playing along. Don't get me wrong Merle was an excellent guitar player.

The best ever
Undoubtedly one of the coolest people of all time. And somehow still underrated. Definitely on my troubadour Mt. Rushmore. I still pledge allegiance to the Hag.
Merle was never "underrated." This word is terribly over- and misused now rendering it meaningless, like the word awesome.
@ sorry my comment offended your sensibility somehow Rudolph. I could prove what I said but why bother. Stay awesome Rudy.

I'm trying to figure out where the second lead guitar is coming from. Merle wasn't playing that most audible solo at the end. You can hear his solo underneath though if you listen closely.
There's this guy The Last Knife Fever, who did an awesome cover on this. Love it!
