Thanks for referring me to this video. So it was Pickman's Model and the Shadow Over Innsmouth? I have read both of those; I knew I had read about Danvers in one of Lovecraft's stories. Another possible inspiration may have been Butler Hospital in Providence. Both of Lovecraft's parents had been patients there, and Lovecraft did visit his mother there, at least on the grounds, if not in the building.
