Agree 100% with Naomi on every topic, Brave all the way, Signal, GrapheneOS and Proton. Bookmarking this for all my friends/family when they won't listen to me LOL.
Worth remembering that TOR has a lot of nodes owned by government/s. It was developed by the American government for their military from what I remember?
I’ve given up. The fingerprinting they use is insane and using a vpn, brave, etc are useless there are too many ways too fingerprint someone and collect data. The only ways is to not use these service’s and software period that collect information. I try my best like she says though but here I am using TH-cam though.
Honestly, this is the best interview you've done so far David. I love all the wireshark, the deep dives, and actual hackers, but this is great for beginners to open their eyes to how easy it is to get back some privacy.
I really wanted McAfee to bring his anonymous node software to market, but they offed him. Now Amazon are using MESH (secret network using ring door bell, which hacks your internet and phone internet and anyone's phone who comes to your door. Evil!).
15:59 This is true. Crucial services I need will only allow chrome or edge. Those privacy tools on the more private browsers are what makes them 'incompatible'. when they say Incomplete, they mean 'we cannot see your secrets'
I see a picture of Edward Snowden on Naomi's wall, so I thought it would be fitting to quote him here, especially since you started the conversation making the point about people saying they have nothing to hide, and why bother to advocate privacy: 'Arguing that you don't care about the right to privacy because you have nothing to hide is no different than saying you don't care about free speech because you have nothing to say'.
Thank you my friend I really appreciate all the content you provide, I literally hang out for your videos every day , cannot express how much you have help me get a better understanding of things, especially as I’m going through my studies to enter cyber sec as a career not just a passion. Never stop my friend!
I remember something someone told me a while back with respect to the whole argument of "I'm not doing anything wrong, what do I have to hide?". Its a bit vulgar but "Are you intimate with your significant other in a place where everyone can watch? Why not? What do you have to hide? Having privacy doesn't mean you are doing something wrong".
Very interesting video. I recommend that you interview either an attorney or a prosecutor regarding how data is collected by governments. This also goes for protonmail and vpn services. Most cases where data is collected will never be released to the public since the perpetrators are either atp or groups like revil for example.
Internet privacy/anonymity is a double-edged sword. If you would ever come under investigation for some reason and you have little to no digital footprint, you will stand out like a clown at a funeral. For every measure you take to hide yourself you shuld also do something else to look completely normal and boring.
All the privacy measures will come to nothing if you can't protect your wifi from hackers. Do you know of any technology using which you can protect your wifi from hackers ?
Awesome video once again! Thank you for informing us on the security steps we can take to make our experiences online safer and more secure. I appreciate it David! Cheers!
i do very much agree. it is a hard to remain private. staying away from social media services in a era of technology has enumerated a number of problems but they are far less than the problems I had when I was using social medias. Thank you I very much enjoyed the chit chat
It is tough, "if you give it up" 2FA is good at security, but the problem is how many companies now have my phone number i wouldn't usually give out?? I just gob by a strong password... if it may not be 2FA but my number is safe.
Another great show, this is the 2nd lady you bring to the show and both of them were great. Subscribed to both the same instant. Thanks for bringing all this great content to us.
Have you had a chat with Michael Bazzell about Extreme Privacy as yet? Btw, Brave has started sending "marketing" packages to "random" people to their home addresses 🧐🤐. Be careful about Brave 🔥
Any alternative to Qubes that does compartmentalization in the same way? (tried Qubes-R4.1 but got graphical artifacts and glitches even after following the documentation and disabling desktop composition, I'm guessing it was because of RX5700, seen a few complaints of people struggling to get Qubes and Xen vm to play nicely with 'modern' desktop hardware).
Great video and another great guest! Privacy is a mindset, based on one's own circumstances. Most important, make very small changes and try to help others one small step at a time. Michael bazzell has a podcast (privacy, security and OSINT), with how-to basics on phones, sms, email, etc. for average people. His book Extreme Privacy is excellent, covers the full spectrum, and was recently updated. Superb reference material at the very least. Some other great resources: techlore, the hated one, opt out...

This is one cool chica. We need more people like this in the world:) For me privacy is about freedom of mind. Freedom of choice... I went on an advertisement abstinence a while back. You see, I already knew ads were doing things to our brains, but when you actually walk the walk you learn much more. One result is : I can articulate why they no bueno. The short of it is : Adverts program the mind and change peoples basic seek & reward behaviors/habits. Ads reduce the amount of effort people are willing to put forth to make their lives "their own." They modify how people assign value to things. The seeking behaviors being reduced is probably the biggest thing to be concerned about. I can ask a simple question to exemplify this >> When was the last time you sought music which was new to you. I enjoy these so much David, they're like a gift that keeps giving 😁 I'm always playing them in the background at home, in the car, while working...wherever. Seriously these bolster knowledge in everyone and I always learn something new from your video's. Great work 👏
I am waiting for the moment when, for example, the voice activation of lights in the house will be considered evidence in court. Such information is also saved on Alexa or Google Home servers. Both services intelligently distinguish who gave the command to turn on the lights. The geolocation itself based on the car navigation system is slowly showing up as circumstantial evidence. Watching TH-cam videos about hacking also looks bad for jurors. Just wait until this data collected by large Metadata business owners is used against clients.
Hey david , I want to ask a question related to "How to be a master programmer"? I have some points in my mind but would I like an experienced programmer like u to point out the wrong thing and as well add additional steps if they exist... The Telegram team explains in their FAQs that all the non-encrypted data is stored in a distributed infrastructure of datacenters located all around the world. This means that a single chat of mine should be fragmented and its fragments collected in multiple places. They explain that this escamotage should make it quite difficult to recover the entire conversation because of burocracy and different laws in the different governments. Is this a good enough measure to trust Telegram?
or you could purchase a Time Machine and go back to the late 90s / early 2000 and buy yourself a Nokia beige 6510 ;) happy days ;) seriously though duckduck go I had but dropped it can never find anything its missing 95% of content but I still think I should go back to the good old days when I had a Nokia in my pocket ;)
Forget about privacy if the government is involved!!! Instead let them leave u when they want to. Tor, vpn ,search engines work for private intruders to some extent!! Its just my opinion

Google Chrome ties itself into everything in your OS ! Use it for a few days and then open the chrome portion of your APP Data folder.. It is HUGE and EVERYWHERE ! I only use Chrome in a virtual machine. Install it and immediately save the machine state. Then do not save the machine state again and it stops a lot of chromes garbage from increasing.
She didn't mention how everybody's data is categorized and sold for political persuasive media. If everyone says, I don't care, I'm doing nothing wrong. They are part of giving the big picture of the patterns of society, giving power to politicians and propaganda in letting them know exactly how and what to say to persuade society. Remember the number one rule of persuasive writing is "know your audience"!
It is kind of funny & ironic too that the Google privacy aspect complaint is being made on a Google asset TH-cam as well. If there was something sinister going on this TH-cam video should cease to exist soon. But that is not going to happen. Maybe a special code to withhold the best search results from Naomi? That could most certainly happen. That would be some targeted work for you😊
The wife always say "well I'm not doing anything wrong and have nothing to hide." She thinks I'm crazy for all my working on getting more secure on my digital life. Oh well...
Need Knowledge for use browser let's me say about this, no browser in the world safe you even tor I can't give you more information but I wanna talk about this important point... if you make you browser maybe useful for you
Alot of people tout VPN's as a way to watch TV shows that are country or region restricted but in my experience the two I have used d. ont do that. I just want to watch Doctor Who!
She have actually made an update to this thread about VPNs. I can only hope, that You see this and perhaps is mentioning this ion a future video. I´m a big fan of You and are spreading Your videos alot.
Ya I’m gonna use the tor browser for all my web searches also you mentioned brave browser? What would you recommend an also for the settings in brave ? What’s the best settings for it ? 😊I do like tor browser and brave browser
****Ripped all the audio from all the videos you both done. Virtual mapped the face expressions and body languages. I can now use it to create my own movies. Thank you for your service, but you're no longer needed now. Sincerely, A.I.
Yet another amazing guest. Thank you both for this video. Very valuable lessons. Looking forward to seeing more interviews from Naomi. Definitely going to follow her channel.
I was about to go to bed and thought why not just scroll through TH-cam first. Now I am downloading brave, signal, checking out proton vpn and email 😂. You got me good

For me privacy is about freedom of mind. Freedom of choice... I went on an advertisement abstinence a while back. In which, I committed to not witness an advertisement for 1 solid year. I learned a lot. You see, I already knew ads were doing things to our brains, but when you actually walk the walk you learn much more. One result is : I can articulate why they no bueno. The short of it is :

Here is an exercise you can do to expand your music universe : Go on to bandcamp or soundcloud and search for words or make up song names. Random words or things on your mind. Keep listening to new stuff on that search result until you find something cool...
