What was the wood you turned? Also was wondering why you use an open hand on the front of the gouge instead of grasping it with the fingers on your left hand, personal style?
Maple--I believe silver maple. I think you're asking about the last cut I do with the bottom bowl gouge (If not please correct me!). To get that cut right the left hand cannot guide the tool. (If it does you end up with a lot of bouncing and torn grain.) If I wrap my hand around it I always end up moving the gouge with my left hand. I don't hold it with my hand underneath, like the other cuts, because of the depth of the cut at the bottom of the bowl.
Lovely work all around
Nice job, very pretty. 👍

Please tell us the wood species and your lathe tools. Especially the swing-arm cutter which enabled you to create the three bowl blanks. Thank you.
Thanks for the idea Richard. I’ve put that info in my newer videos.
Good afternoon, what is the name of the instrument that was chosen in the middle? And where can one buy one?
It’s a bowl coring system. The one I used is made by Oneway in Canada.
Nice 👍👍👍
Ai sim, gostei de ver. Desperdício pouca madeira. 👍
Gracias!
How do you clamp the inside of bowl and again work on the outside???
I put a very small recess on the inside of the bowl and expand my jaws into it.
Looking to make a video on that this week
Можно подробнее о Вашем поворотном резце, если можно подскажите где купить. Спасибо!
