    Hey everyone! Thanks for the comments! I just want to mention that I no longer use this unit and I have upgraded to the Mr Cool DIY Mini Split. I made a video showing how I have that system setup.

    • @bogieman101

      Why did you change to the mini split?

    • @gabrielpage860
      @gabrielpage860  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      @@bogieman101 I changed to the mini split to try and achieve the feeling of central AC throughout my entire house and also not have to take out a window unit every year. I did not have any problems with the Midea U shaped for the time that I used it. However I do recommend people to upgrade to split units if they can afford it.

      Hi Gabe! I moved from Michigan to Arizona over twenty years ago and just bought the 12k version from Costco ($399) and plan to put it in the master bedroom as a backup (should my central fail) and to supplement the central to keep the room cooler at night so I'm hoping it will do the trick. Hope your mini-split is working great for you and I like your cat too!

    • @carlyw60
      @carlyw60 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'm not in a position to be able to afford that just yet. Can you please tell me if you needed to have an electrician come in and put in a special outlet to handle the amps the 12,000 midea unit draws?

    • @davebruessow6842
      @davebruessow6842 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@carlyw60 I did not have to do anything. As long as the outlet you're plugging into supports 15 amps (typical in most homes) you should be okay. Just be aware that if there are other devices connected to the same circuit (that also draw high current) it might trip the circuit breaker. I have no issues with mine in the master bedroom or in the front room and ran them in place of the central the last few days (cut my bill in half)...

    It also helps with security. I always thought it was crazy with my old AC unit someone could just shove it in and get access. As long as you use a brace to keep the window from opening further, this is much more safe than a regular window unit.

    Thanks for you review,... I bought an 8000 btu one at Home Depot ... Love it. So quiet! I hooked my Watt-Meter to it and it only uses about 300 watts at near full tilt. When it auto lowers to maintain temp, it is around 130 watts... that's like nothing!! Excellent.

    I just got a 12,000 unit put in my living room a few days ago... I LOVE it! It is so quiet that I had to mute my computer to see if it was running (it was). It cools quickly and seems to cool all the way into the kitchen where I have a smaller, regular window A/C. That one hasn't run much at all since I have it a degree warmer than the Midea, and it is cooling all the way in there so it is definitely saving me some $$$!

    I just put in a couple of them in my place - 120y/o house in Chicago. While we haven't had any 'real' summer weather here yet, it has been pretty humid lately, and this old house (TM PBS) needs more/better insulation, etc.
    As a long time midwesterner, I can tell you it IS the humidity (actually, it's the wet-bulb temp. but damned if imma try ta 'splain that).
    Anyway, I'm pretty impressed with this so far.
    I'm researching mini-split systems as I have forced air and by Feb. every year I'm ready to bash my skull in from the sound. Sorry, different topic.

    I will say this if you have a window that’s 22 inches which is the minimum sized window you can install these in. It’s going to be a really tight fit. Getting the bracket installed was a bit of a hassle but doable. I had a vinyl raised lip window and again the unit will be a tight squeeze through the window. Issues I had was getting the bracket brace attachment on you’ll need a stubby screwdriver to get the screws off and back on. The tip over bar was difficult to get screwed down I feel they need to add additional tie downs. Also be extremely careful and wear gloves you can easily slice a finger open on the condenser fins as well as bend them.

    My outside ledge was too far out for the legs to drop down against the building. The man who helped me jeery rigged a piece of wood across the belly of the condenser. He followed the recommended bubble location for drainage. But i wondered if it should be more than 1/8 inch incline?
    Why? Because i see so many video comments saying the unit did not drain well. One man opted to drill a hole out under the condenser.
    -- maybe it should be more than 1/8th. -- day before without it in the window, i propped inside portion to simulate the incline. I ran it for an hour. No drip until i lifted the unit up.
    -- watching the Danby unit install (almost twin) i find it is better than the official Midea’s. Both of them could do a better manual.
    I know the bracket seems complicated, but really if we do the steps as recommended it is easy to do.
    I’m going to do a step by step so I can easily remove and put it back into window. Make

    Thanks so much for this review. Have an estimate on your square footage on this floor? Does it seem to come the closets, cabinets, and other closed off spaces? Looking to hit a 1,000 SF apartment with this.

      My house is 950 Sq feet and with a fan oscillating it cools it pretty nice,, I had my oven on 450 2 hours and outside was 84 and my house was 72 with the 5 o'clock afternoon sun beating my picture window which gets hot. One in an insulated apartment will do decsent

    Due to the fact that you could practically close your window all the way there’s really no need to have to take it out for winter every year which is something I wouldn’t do doesn’t hurt to keep it in the window

    I installed the 12000 btu, and I'm not impressed by its cooling. The unit I removed was so old that it has R22 freon, and it cooled the space better even if it has a much lower capacity

      The new stuff cannot be compared to the old r22. We cant have that dangerous stuff in our a/c or fridge but we can burn down a whole forest every summer.

    • @JoshuasRecordings
      @JoshuasRecordings 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      R22 is just a more efficient refrigerant period. It's one of the many reasons the older units cool so much better. But God forbid we have nice things.

      How big of a space and what part of the country? Old/new construction? 61F is unreasonable for most residential AC units to maintain, and if you are in an older leaky house with a lot of infiltration could be an issue as well as window units aren’t suited to handle latent heat. 12MBH is good for probably 500 Sqft unless you have better than code min insulation.
